What the f**k is Brightons problem

You might have been in top flight for 27 years but achieved nothing just like us and now we are in this tin pot league together! But with your vast superior stadium and the millions you have to spend on players surely you should be top of the premier league but i dont understand why you are in this division?

We got relegated twice, that's how...

You're not very good at this are you?

In fairness we havent won bugger all in our history neither have brighton but we have a bigger fan base and experience which gives us more potential to move back up the leagues and stay there.

Also we both have sets of fans that think our clubs better then it is and deserve to be higher then we are and your find that at every club but were all aloud arrogant fans.

There was a big rivalry late 70s /eary 80s kicked off by the Saints/Spurs game at The Dell last game 77/78 season. Brighton could have got promoted if we had beaten Spurs but allegedly it was an "agreed" result and it finished a tame 0-0 and we went up with Spurs. I can also remember quite a few tasty awaydays down there early eighties, I think we had them in the cup as well. Not to mention Dec 81 when we played Brighton at The Dell and if we had won we would have gone top of the league (above Man Utd !) and they beat us 2-0 (Foster). The game was a sell out and there were a couple of thousand fans locked out.Cue running battles outside the ground.

Have to say I was quite surprised to see the level of hatred for us on their forum. I always liked Brighton, the club as well as the place, and had no idea they disliked us to such an extent. As others have said, hope we both go up and that their forum isnt representative of their fans as a whole.

Makes me laugh how they bang on about how sh*te The Dell was................Hello...............The Goldstone!!

I have family in Brighton and believe me, the hatred on their forum is not representative of the normal Brighton football punter who are only interested in their side doing well and maybe out of interest cast an eye on our results.

For myself, apart from the obvious, I would like to see all the south coast sides do well as I have a bigger problem with the North and London dominance of football.

Not sure what the fuss is all about, I don't think Brighton will last the distance TBH.

They are going to bottle it and the last 6 games have shown the cracks are there.

Top 2 to come from Saints\Wednesday\Huddersfield\Charlton.

Brighton? It's just a glorified beach hut.

I actually think it is a tad sad to see the arrogance (and more than a hint of jealousy) in some Brighton fans. It wasn't long ago that I and a few others went along to their Fans United day when trying to save them and the Goldstone. Rather than try and create a rivalry and sound off, they would do well to remember the support they got from throughout the leagues when they were going through their troubled times.

I suppose there was a pseudo rivalry back in the late 70's/early 80's when Portsmuff had disappeared down the leagues, but it was never a rivalry in the real sense of the word. They do seem rather like the Bournemuff fans whipping themselves up in to a frenzy and trying to create something that simply does not exist.

I think it's rather good that a club who on the verge of going under have bounced back, are opening a new ground (not sure about its location, but that's an aside) and have a benefactor who is helping them to push on.

They've obviously played well this year to be where they are and have laid down the gauntlet for us and others to catch them. Are they stuttering a little, maybe, but we will need to take advantage of that.

Strange how some of them are getting all narky about a rivalry that doesn't exist (apart from on purely footballing teams, in that we are both challenging for promotion) and why they are wasting time on it when they have so much to look forward to. Each to their own I suppose.

2nd in league behind who? shouldnt of said that forgot with your millions your spending in transfer market and the arrival of messi and co you will win this league by 30 points.

this was in reponse to your question of what did we achieve in top flight. 2nd behind Liverpool who were the best team in the world at that time, 1984.

I find this thread a bit surreal! Why does anyone visit a rivals on line forum?

This forum often attracts rivals fans for a bit of banter prior to games, but why just to say how "arrogant" we are as fans?

I understand rivalry and hatred - but as a kid I used to watch Southern Soccer on ITV on Sunday afternoons and want to see Saints, Pompey and Bournemouth win (honestly don't remember Brighton featuring think they must have been covered by ThamesTV?). Anyway that all changed with puberty and whilst always seem Bournemouth as a lower division club, Pompey became the rival of choice - especially after we got relegated in 1974 and had to play them in the then 2nd Division.

Even then the hatred seemed to be more from "them".

I've tried to analyse it - I started watching Saints in 1966-67 when they were the top dogs on the south coast being in Division 1. I had no idea Pompey were the "bigger club" as it was never talked about in our household (my old man was an Arsenal fan from the 1920's).

Being a Saints fan has never been about winning anything - sure we'd have a few good results a season against the big boys in the 60's/70's - then we got relegated. Then it all changed suddenly we were in a lower league - and expectation was high. Promotion wasn't won in our first season - but I seem to remember winning a trophy at Wembley in 1976. The following season I can only describe as a golden era in the clubs history - promotion, finishing runners up to Liverpool in 1984, decent FA Cup runs...then we became a plc, and the dark Lord (he who must not be named) became our leader.

His legacy was to get us up to our eye balls in debt, a new stadium and become a laughing stock. His parting gift was Administration when in The Championship making us a bigger laughing stock than Manchester City.

So fellow football fans in Brighton and Bournemouth there are many fans who seem arrogant because they genuinely do not know that there is any football outside The Premier League. Visits to far off places like Hartlepool and Carlisle used to be a dream Cup draw so we could visit new grounds - not Highbury, Old Trafford or Anfield week in and week out, season after season. Sure I've been there and done it - and I can assure you we never thought we should win every game then except in that season in 1984!

I expect Saints to win every week (now) in this league because we have a side that wants to win, unlike the shadow of the side built by a Dutch joker using boys not men seeing us fall into League 1. There is an arrogance about the club which goes back to the dark Lord - now with Mr Cortese at the helm some would say that arrogance hasn't gone away with the press photography ban. The Manager has a certain way - I call it a confidence not arrogance...and this is gradually passing to the team (who seem to have started believing) and the fans again. To be honest under the current circumstances I can see us going to the end of the season with only a couple of defeats - and that of our own doing.

So "so called rivals" you will be glad to see the back of us this season, and we won't be your rivals again for a long time...we have a 5-year plan and never mind The Premier League looking over their shoulders - watch out Europe. The thing is we all have dreams - some bigger than others admittedly, but somehow I think our dream has more chance of coming true as we stand.

As football fans we all have rivals, we all "hate" at least one club - but the fact is you don't ever change your team or alliegances. For the people of Brighton and Bournemouth is is so much easier to pick a Chelsea or Man United for your team - so good on you for standing by your local team. In Southampton there are many misguided kids now wearing the wrong shirt - even when we were in The Premiership it was the same!

So there are a couple of things to remember - I will for ever be a Southampton supporter, I will always want any team playing Pompey to win. Brighton & Bournemouth will never be rivals and would probably like them to win any game not involving Saints. You will never be a bigger club than Southampton as long as you have holes where the sun don't shine - so get over it and get on with following your own club (and leave this forum alone!)

This BHA started another, now closed, mongtastic thread in which he included the following :

Think you lot been sniffing to much fairy dust over xmas.

Next you will be telling the world your stadium will be bigger than old traffords in a couple of years.

"FAIRY DUST" !!! Obviously something unique to Brighton I would imagine.

As for the stadium, we all know only the mighty skates Aquadrome will rival Old Trafford.

This thread is hilarious

I know a lot of Brighton fans who are top blokes whose priority is supporting their team. Don't worry about BHA, he is not speaking for the majority. He is a troll of the highest order

I love that we're being accused of arrogance, yet they're the ones claiming how big they'll be once their new wonder stadium is built?

Let's hope the new stadium does for Brighton what Darlington's did for them.

New stadium hardly equals guaranteed long-term success, look at Shrewsbury, Darlington, Derby, Middlesbrough and dare I say it.....us.

Even Arsenal won more when they were back at Highbury!

Excellent post!

To me - going on to another club's forum to post is a bit like putting on one of their shirts...I'd feel uncomfortable & would feel like I needed a good wash afterwards.

I too will always have (from a logical perspective) an irrational hatred of the Skates...it's part of being a Saints fan in the era that I 'grew up' in...in three years time Bournemouth & Brighton will still look forward to playing each other & so they should...equally Havant & Waterlooville will enjoy playing the other South coast team that will, by then, be an object of ridicule & hatred to all the clubs. This is the way of the world...arrogant - moi?;)

point taken but we are not claiming to be a far superior club than everyone else.

I guess when one sees other clubs desperate to stir up a rivalry with one's own and when a point is celebrated by an away team as though they have just won the Champions League then it may go to one's head somewhat.

Not stirring up a rivalry just amuses me that you lot think you are so big. You couldnt fill your stadium to full capacity against us in a local derby so maybe your fan base is not that big or your fans are in the closet and are glory hunters only to return when you are in the champions league. And as i see it at the moment that you might win this league but at present you are 2nd behind a small team down the road which must be a bit embarrasing for such a huge club.

What you are trying to say is that you can only fill your stadium when you play pompey. In other words you dont have the fan base.

Mong. We filled out our stadium against Pompey, MK Dons, Exeter, Leeds and Southend last season. Might be a couple more as well, can't really remember.
