bender Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I'm a member of Brighton's NSC and they currently they have 2 anti Saints threads. http://www.northstandchat.com/forumdisplay.php?20-The-Big-Board This isnt unusual. Since we came down to this league they keep harping on about how much they hate us. Like we give a sh1t about them. They've got a new ground coming up, albeit with a capacity of a poultry 22,500 and they think the glory times are just around the corner and they are set to become big force, bigger than Saints.
Deppo Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 They've got a new ground coming up, albeit with a capacity of a poultry 22,500. Sounds like a chicken shed.
Nexstar Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 15,000 empty seats will be impressive in a ground that holds 22,000
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 'Like we give a **** about them' And then make a thread and write on their boards ?? TBF i wish them well, they have cash and have a new stadium on the way, why shouldn't they be optimistic ? We certainly are optimistic about our future ? Sure we have had more reletive success then they have had but we are both very much in similar situations right now and they are playing well. They are localish i suppose, do they have any real local rivalries like our close relationship to Pompey ? Plus we can come across as a bunch of arrogant pr*cks, i too think we should be performing in higher leagues, its not really arrogant but considering the cash we have spent and are spending and the leagues i have seen saints playing in within the recent history then yes, i expect us to be playing in a higher division.

Simple, they are threated by us, see us as their biggest threat, which is understandable. It also seems to be percieved arrogance from them which is understandable given some of the posts on here. Such as the one about we can sign any player we want and that we are the most attractive club outside of the top four in the PL for a player. I cant understand why any other league one club would read this and think our fans are arrogant, can you?
niceandfriendly Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Unbelievable. Like Bournemouth, I quite like Brighton. But both of their sets of fans attitudes are starting to change my feelings for them for the worse.
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Unbelievable. Like Bournemouth, I quite like Brighton. But both of their sets of fans attitudes are starting to change my feelings for them for the worse. Nah, Sod that, rise above the idiots on both sides. It's great to see football on the South coast looking so strong. Now if only the blue cancer could just die.
Chez Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Its a good club with some great fans, I have no issue with them whatsoever. It's a football web forum. Believe it or not these places are home to some right idiots that aren't representative of the fanbase as a whole. Don't go on their board if you can't handle some ribbing, fibbing and bias opinion.
Nexstar Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?191123-Comparisons-between-Brighton-and-Arsenal&highlight=arsenal We're arrogant.
Lighthouse Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?191123-Comparisons-between-Brighton-and-Arsenal&highlight=arsenal We're arrogant. We will be better than them and Arsenal when we've signed Owen, Benjani, Vassell, Skacel, World Class Ryan Smith, Bradley Wright-Torres and got them all playing total football.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I'm a member of Brighton's NSC and they currently they have 2 anti Saints threads. http://www.northstandchat.com/forumdisplay.php?20-The-Big-Board This isnt unusual. Are you saying that their fans are chickens? On a serious note, their comments are a little *****y but then I've always felt that we should have taken Spuds in 78 and helped Brighton up but, just like Bompey, their fans see a rivalry that doesn't really exist. They are simply not on our radar, just a quaint little seaside town somewhere between Selsey and Hastings. Good luck to them, the rest of the season is going to be interesting
oxfordshire_saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Because they've got no proper rivals, they try and stir them up themselves so they have somewhere to direct their anger. I presume this is why they hate Palace? Never understood that one. Maybe they'll get Lewes or Worthing in the FA Cup one day so they can have a proper local derby. Surely if we both go up they should have a bigger rivalry with the Skates?
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I presume this is why they hate Palace? Never understood that one. Yeah, what the hell is that all about?
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 And then we have w*nkers like Redneb and Saint_considerably_richer that go on their forum and chat utter boll*cks. Which never helps.
Rebel Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Their big rivals are Crystal Palace for some reason - supposedly they really hate each other according to a Brighton fan I used to work with. It must be a Surrey v Sussex thing! I think they are all a bit paranoid about Southampton at the moment as by support and history we are a bigger club - and we were favorites to win League 1 - and I think they are afraid we might still do so! The Calderon thing in the Summer didn't help - nor did Poyets bleating about it. Have to say I'm glad he stayed at the Withdean as he was awful in the game at St Marys. Poyets and the whole Brighton team also seemed scared of Saints - playing for a draw and time wasting from the first minute. I know they were missing a few key players but I was expecting a lot more from them - some football at least anyway!
Crab Lungs Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 What I love about Brighton fans is that they complain about us being bertie-big-b0ll0cks yet harp on about future glory years whilst sitting just about top of League One. :-/ **** the rest of the South Coast anyway - Bournemouth have the same problem, Portsmouth at least have a reason for a rivalry (as such) and worse still, Plymouth also obsessed over us. What is the common denominator here? In recent times, we have been the best supported and highest place club out of the rest... I can only think they harbour some sort of twisted, resentful hatred because of that...
CB Fry Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 To be fair there was a brief period where certain Saints fans went on and on about hating Tottenham even long after Hoddle had been sacked. Primarily message board nonsense of course, as I imagine this load of cobblers from Brighton is too.

It's a form of inverted snobbery and emanates from a position of fear. All good banter though and not to be taken too seriously.
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 To be fair there was a brief period where certain Saints fans went on and on about hating Tottenham even long after Hoddle had been sacked. To be fair. Them employing a certain saggy faced arseh*le doesn't help our continuing relations.
Saint_clark Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I'm trying to convert them but it's not working very well.
Badger Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Comments like this made I laugh: They really are a bunch of arrogant ***** aren't they. Once we are at Falmer we are every bit as good as them with more potential and a better ground. Oh and Southampton is largely a sh!thole. What a b!tchy little comment to throw in at the end. To which someone added : It's all a sh!thole in my view. Perhaps confirming that some of their fans do have a obsession for other blokes sh!tholes. Then we have the fanciful : Not remotely bothered by Southampton, we are easily equal in size but far superior in terms of team, style of football, manager, stadium, potential [/b]and Sussex is such a nicer place to be as well. "Far superior" ? Syle of football ? Is that the theatrical tumbling in the box,Manager with the South American appealing to the ref for opponents to be sent off etc. Wonder how popular Poyet will be there when he inevitably departs to manage in Spain to enhance is career ? Their Stadium ??? Jackanory time surely? Potential.. is this the club that once had a two year stint in the top division...during our twenty seven years there ? Clearly potential, history and support. Sussex, a nicer place to live ? B0ll0cks. Presumably their knowledge of Hampshire is only to and from SMS, or Nottarf Krap (perhaps they have a point there I'll concede), and don't know anywhere else. Fact is, rather like Bournemouth they want us to notice them and hate them, but in truth only the skates are on our immediate hate monitor. So, f^ck off Brighton and Hiv Albion, enjoy your brief flirtation with being top of the table in L1.
CB Fry Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 To be fair. Them employing a certain saggy faced arseh*le doesn't help our continuing relations. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the Jol/Santini/Ramos era when Saints divs stormed onto Spurs messageboards giving it a load of large to shrugging and bewildered Spurs fans. Certain Saints fans are not alien to the idea of working up desperate and one-sided rivalries.
Saints foreva Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I'm trying to convert them but it's not working very well. I wouldn't bother. This has been going on for years, we do tend to have very arrogant fans but North Stand Chat is a perfect proof that they do as well.

Certain Saints fans are not alien to the idea of working up desperate and one-sided rivalries. i remember that, and i also remember chringing chants of We hate Tottenham at home to Arsenal and away at Highbury the following two season, prompting a group of Arsenal lads asking me in the Gas Light outside of FInsbury Park station back in 01/02 season just why we hated them so much. The honest answer of we didn't really, it's just because Hoddle left was embarassing.

NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what an achievement! Most clubs can only dream true
Saint_clark Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what exactly did you achieve? 27 years in the top flight is an achievement in itself.
scott_saints Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 You're doing something right if you're a football club that is hated.
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what exactly did you achieve? Well, we achieved the feat of being in the top flight for 27 years, what exactly is your point ?
CB Fry Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what exactly did you achieve? 27 years in the top flight. That's what, sunshine.
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what exactly did you achieve? 27 years of it. That is an achievement. I want to wish you all luck this year. May the best team between us come out on top and hopefully we'll be playing each other in a higher league come next August. It's good to see the South Coast showing so strongly. Let's put the blue cancer down at Fratton in their place.
saints-cris Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I live in the Brighton area and used to really look out for Brightons results and wish them the best. However recently they have really started to bug me. They go on about how they will be a bigger club than Saints and once they have their 22,000 seater stadium (lets not forget they didnt even sell out Withdean today) they will be a much more attractive prospect than us too. They also go on about us being arrogant, and yeah sometimes i think we are but first of all, I still dont think weve gotten out of 3rd gear yet and find ourselves second, but second, pot kettle black, they have threads on there comparing themselves with Arsenal. I dont find their needless dislike for us in any way necessary, we have never bothered them because for about 30 years they have never been near us. Once they get over their little bit of cockyness I would go back to not minding them again because in all honesty I like their way of football and they well and truly deserve to be where they are in the league. they havent spent much and play a lot of good football. We have struggled against them too in previous meetings. I just wished they would stop trying to compare them to us, as i am confident that if you ask any football fan who has any knowledge a simple question of "who is a bigger club?" you will get southampton almost every single response.
BHA Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 You might have been in top flight for 27 years but achieved nothing just like us and now we are in this tin pot league together! But with your vast superior stadium and the millions you have to spend on players surely you should be top of the premier league but i dont understand why you are in this division?

There is really no point in you being here if you're just going to throw a paddy and disregard any argument we make.
NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 our stadium is not as good as Man U, nor our budget up to Man City's - touched you see us in that company.
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 You might have been in top flight for 27 years but achieved nothing just like us and now we are in this tin pot league together! But with your vast superior stadium and the millions you have to spend on players surely you should be top of the premier league but i dont understand why you are in this division? We havn't spent that much... As for being in this league in the first place.... how long have you got?
BHA Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years of it. That is an achievement. I want to wish you all luck this year. Poyets and the whole Brighton team also seemed scared of Saints - playing for a draw and time wasting from the first minute. I know they were missing a few key players but I was expecting a lot more from them - some football at least anyway! don't agree with that. He looked a very good attacking fullback to me and a genuine threat. His starting position was so high up the pitch and he coinstantly wanted the ball to start attacks. If we swapped him for Richardson it wouldn't weaken us. As for the game as a whole, they overplayed it in hte first half allowing us to swarm all over them. When we got tired and space opened up their passing game caused us real problems in the second half and they we were holding on in places. We are decent (and improved since then) and they matched us. I felt they looked like a top of the table side playing away at one if not the best sides in the league.
NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Brighton Top of the league and deservedly so. A enthusiastic manager has got them well organised and well motivated. I expect them to go up. Their form has dipped since the injury to LuaLua and thought they may drop away a bit but today looks to put that to bed. When they played at St Marys they clearly were playing for a draw from the start. They had earnt that right due to being clear at the top. THey were a cynical, timewasting and unattractive team to watch. It was the easiest draw we will have this season. If we go up I don't care if the other team is Brighton, Bournemouth or Redbridge - or any other team in league 1 who mean nothing to me.
pap Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Unusual in my opinion maybe, but I'd like to see more teams from the south coast represented in the higher divisions, Brighton included. When you think that a club like Wigan, who have only recently discovered that balls come in other configurations than egg-shaped, are strutting their stuff in the Premiership, it's clear that the south coast needs more teams in the top flight. There are currently none. So I care not what a few of their fans think. If I had my way, Southampton, Brighton and Bournemouth would go up.
Badger Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 27 years in top flight and what exactly did you achieve? Staying there. European qualification. Playing some outstanding attacking football under Lawrie, and Nicholl from time to time. Signing a current European Footballer of The Year. You might have been in top flight for 27 years but achieved nothing just like us and now we are in this tin pot league together! But with your vast superior stadium and the millions you have to spend on players surely you should be top of the premier league but i dont understand why you are in this division? Probably for the same reason as you became homeless and had to leave the Goldstone Ground - mismanagement by one or more individuals that supporters would not have wanted in charge. Lets be honest both clubs have been victim to that. Putting the argument aside, I'd be quite happy for BHA to be promoted providing of course it is not at our expense. And good luck in the cup against the Skates by the way.
Turkish Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 You might have been in top flight for 27 years but achieved nothing just like us and now we are in this tin pot league together! Colinjb Posted 2 January, 2011 Posted 2 January, 2011 Steady on BHA. I would guess he is a kid from his posting.
BHA Posted 2 January, 2011 Posted 2 January, 2011 2nd in the League. Tell us about when you did that, tell us about when you played in Europe and the times when you won the FA Cup. never! we are a small club not like yourselves who pretend week in and week out that you are still in the premeirship! you are a far superior football team than us! im so jealous!
