St Chalet Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 As it says really. A lot of strong opinions about him on here balanced by some outstanding displays for Millwall. So what should NA do? Apologies as there is already a Puncheon update thread running but didn't want to add a poll to it out of respect to the OP. So keep comments as binary as possible on this thread.
SNSUN Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Depends. If we can bring in a quality replacement, then no. If not, then yes - squad depth will be the difference between an auto spot and a play-off spot this season.
skintsaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 not sure - he is playing well but must of been a reason he was shipped out...
doggface Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 When on form one of our best players, out of form most of the season, bang in form now=bring him back if committed
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 No. Not because he's not good enough, but because I don't think Adkins can get the best out of him. I don't think he is an Adkins kind of player. Take the money (£650k in my opinion).
Dr Who? Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 If he is good enough for a Championship team, then he is more than good enough for us, and can only make are squad stronger!
dronskisaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Yes - if the worst happens & we lose any of our best midfielders through injury or transfer he would be a good replacement...proving he can play at a higher level too.
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Prefer not to have him back, appears to be a disruptive influence and is not keen to play for us. If we can replace him with someone who does want to play for us then we would be better off without him. It really doesn't matter to me that he scored 3 today, shows what he can do, but appears to lack the application to do it consistently and feels he is bigger than the team.

Indeed, he couldn't get away quick enough, so I doubt he'll want to come back.
georgeweahscousin Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 No. Not because I don't think he is good enough, but because I think he has already decided he wants out, and wont perform at his best for us anymore. There is a reason he doesn't last long at any club.
gaz Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Only if he can prove that he can put up with the sh!t times instead of running off like a baby. Being at Millwall proves he can play.
Rod Le Shearer Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 When on form one of our best players, out of form most of the season, bang in form now=bring him back if committed My thoughts excactly. Bring him back while in form. Imagine having three top quality championship-players rotating for the positions on the flanks! And Puncheon can play advanced midfield against "weaker" teams as well.
B Rabbit Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Always said he was a bloody good player. I'm sure his attitude can be worked on...or at least i hope it can. Definate yes from me...
sotonjoe Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 How on earth people can vote no is beyond me. If he can recreate the form he's showing again, we'd be made to not want him.
croydonsaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Leave it up to Adkins. Sure he will make the right descision for the cub.
NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Leave it up to Adkins. Sure he will make the right descision for the cub. far too sensible!
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 We need a winger. He can more then cut it in the league above and is still contractually ours. Get him back now.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Yes for squad depth. Just worriied that he'll return with an attitude though.
FarehamRed Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 No. Performances for Millwall aside, I wouldn't want him here unless he really wanted to be here, and it appears he does not. Why upset a squad that's just finding form?
RonManager Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I hear bridges have been burnt The goldfish flies tonight.
Saint_clark Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 If he wants to be here, yes. Unfortunately all signs point to Fitzhugh Fella being right.
SuperMikey Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Terrible attitude and very inconsistent. Never passes, crossing is woeful at times. Don't even get me started on his shooting. There are far better players out there, and teams will be clamouring to get him while he's in-form. Cash it in and use the money to sign Graham Carey from Celtic.
Clifford Nelson Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 The current offensive play is fast flowing with a constant movement of the ball. That is exactly what Puncheon couldn't do. Give him the ball and he will look for somebody to take on, which slows the game down and gives the opposition the opportunity to re-shape the defense and to be prepared. I looked at the game today and thought how badly he would fit in.
corsacar saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I do not think he wants to be here,if that is the case, then it is better to move him on. Shame really, but probably best for Saints and the player.
forever a red and white Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 No. It could be unsettling and it appears he and Adkins or perhaps Crosby don't see eye to eye. So what has changed? Having said that, although he may have a poor attitude he does have a good work-rate and despite the general consensus on here, he did work hard for the team.
sfc4prem Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Doesn't suit Adkins style of play and quick moving of the ball, Adkins likes wingers that can get to the byline and whip balls in, like Chamberlain. Also has a terrible attitude it seems, my mind brings me back to how he behaved at Markus's memorial/funeral. Seems we've burnt our bridges with him as well. It's a no from me.
Saint_lambden Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 We either need him back or need to sign another winger for back-up as it's likely that Lallana or Chambo will get injured at some point from now till May. I should imagen he'll want to stay at Millwall though - a division above us and he's a London boy really .... he got homesick at Plymouth.

Also has a terrible attitude it seems, my mind brings me back to how he behaved at Markus's memorial/funeral. Seems we've burnt our bridges with him as well. It's a no from me. Again, there was nothing wrong with how he behaved. He was NOT dressed in t-shirt and jeans - there is a video on youtube where you can clearly see him wearing black trousers and dark shirt. And if he had his hands in his pockets, that doesn't show disrespect to me. It just shows he doesn't like his arms swinging stupidly at his side. Fwiw there were scores of Saints fans there in shorts and t-shirts, why didn't they make the effort?
Leslie Charteris Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Take all the money we can while he and Kenney Jackett are still in love and the hat-trick is fresh in the memory.
up and away Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 We have to be sensible here and although there were problems with Puncheon, there is no doubt he is performing now. Oxo just does not have the physique to put in the amount of games that we require from him. If we don't treat him gently, he is going to fall apart on us. Take Puncheon back and get him in the squad, play him as much as his performances deserve. Come the end of the window and if things are not working out, consider selling him to Millwall. If they won't come up with enough cash, keep him in the reserves until the end of the season and sell him to the highest bidder. Puncheon is performing very well at a level higher and now in full fitness, there is no reason that we can't use him, even if that means forgetting some of the harsh words traded. Oxo is a far greater talent, but we just cannot keep using him as we have. He has to be used more sparingly, which will prove difficult with the volume of games we have coming up.
LostBoys Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I think we need to look at why he had some dreadful games for us and cannot put a foot wrong for Milwall. Millwall dont have any money to buy him.
merrimd Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 I dont think he would be happy being second choice to AOC and if he is not happy, he will not play well. Sometimes, players just do not fit into a team. I think we should just try to ghet us much as we can for him, then look elsewhere.
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Not a f**king chance. He would either take the place of someone more deserving and more productive, or sit like a sulky tw*t in the changing room sh*t-stirring.
Saint Martini Posted 2 January, 2011 Posted 2 January, 2011 no, he doesnt want to be here so cash in now This. If you decide to take him back and it doesn't work out you won't get any value for him. Now he has good value after his successful spell at Millwall. If there's a buyer willing to pay good money I'd sell straight away.
georgeweahscousin Posted 2 January, 2011 Posted 2 January, 2011 I think if we brought him back, he would be even worse than he was before he left. He is a sulker. Let him go.
ottery st mary Posted 2 January, 2011 Posted 2 January, 2011 The bridge was definitely last seen floating off down the river. Even if we all wanted him back the management and the player himself are not in agreement. Hopefully he will bring a very good price and everyone will move on... Not sure if Milwall but surely they will try to scrape some dosh together. He is starting to look very useful to their style of play. Class will always out... A very good player who is on his way. Good luck to him.
martyg1950 Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 Not a f**king chance. He would either take the place of someone more deserving and more productive, or sit like a sulky tw*t in the changing room sh*t-stirring. That! No point in having a player at the club who doesn't want to be there. For whatever reason(s) that seems to be the case. Really really good player, but not for us. I'd be amazed if the deal with the Lions wasn't all but done.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 No He doesn't want to play for us and we're a completely different side to Millwall, so if anyone thinks he'd just come back here and continue playing the same as he is there then they are looking at it from far too simplistic a viewpoint. Use his form to sell him to the highest bidder, then let Adkins buy someone who fits into his way of playing and thinking. Everyone's a winner
SaintRichmond Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 Nah he only scored 3 today, he must be sh1t. Of course not (1) He's playing for a "higher" grade Team, ie He's in the CCC (2) He did NOT want to be at St Mary's, and IMHO made that painfully obvious Having him "back" will mean Jack Sh*tt's because he does NOT want to come back So, while he's playing well, get the best price we can for him. While he was with us, we would have been lucky to have got £10 + LV's
Cabrone Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 He's obviously a talented player but I'd only have him back if he wants to be here. However if he had really wanted to be here he would have commanded a regular 1st team place and thus wouldn't have gone out on loan in the first place. Too much attitude.....not enough application?
benjii Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 It's a pointless question. Only a footballing idiot would think he isn't good enough to contribute to the squad over the second half of the season so the only non-idiotic answer, in footballing terms, is "yes". However, if there is a problem in his head/attitude with him not being a guaranteed first XI player (or indeed any other off-field problem) then we may be better off cashing in and getting someone else. So the real question is, "Does Jason Puncheon want to come back?".
alpine_saint Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 Wanting Puncheon back is tantamount to wanting Eyal Berkovic back.
NickG Posted 3 January, 2011 Posted 3 January, 2011 Wanting Puncheon back is tantamount to wanting Eyal Berkovic back. 38 - too old for winger I think
