Saints 4 Exeter 0 - Post Match Comments

No need to worry about Lambert Alps, he is getting better and fitter in my opinion and is now having the confidence again to take on shots where a few weeks back he might have looked for another option. He had a decent game yesterday and with a bit more luck would have got on the scoresheet. Unfortunately for RL teams are virtually doubling up on him now but that does create space for others and his link play remains excellent.

This. Lambert's confidence and fitness are definitely back, he was actually running at players and trying to take them on when he had the ball..rather than passing straight away. On two occasions he struck a shot first time and, but for a good save and defensive block, would have scored. Earlier in the season he would have taken a touch in those positions.

The goal machine is back!

a very good performance. Richardson the only player who was below par IMO.

I thought their midfielder Harley was very good and would be delighted if we signed him.

Guly was good again. The period in the second half when we created chance after chance was very entertaining.

LB must have been a birt rusty as I believe he would have scored before he did had he been sharp.

RL was unselfish and I would have loved him to have got a goal he deserved.

AL really does need to improve his goalscoring ability if he wants to step up a grade or two.

Overall very happy.

Richardson was bit wayward with some long passing, but was constantly available, solid in defence and cut inside to set up two clear chances

I did say below par, not a bad game. His distribution was very poor and I expect better of him in that department.

Whilst I agree his passing was below par, a right back should first and foremost be a good defender and FR is most certainly that.

In their goal mouth, yeah - due to there being so much action in and around it.

Even at the start of the game, the Chapel end that we were defending was poor, I noticed the Exeter keeper came out early for the second half and got them to fork it.

5 more home games played than away (13 played at home so far, only 8 away). I've never seen such a discrepancy before. :?

Given Saints rather weak away form (W3 D1 L4) am I the only one a bit worried?

I can see your point but if you look at those 4 defeats in perspective they include the swindon defeat under Wilkins and MK dons which was adkins first game, losing away to Huddersfield and Carlisle Is nothing to be ashmed of. we will see over next few weeks what our real travelling form is.

We have ten home games left. Let's say we win 8 and lose two (although I would hope we actually do better than that). That would give us 58 points (when added to what we have already). To finish top 2, 85 points will probably be enough. That means we will need to take something like 21-27 points from our away games (depending on home form). 21 points from 14 matches should be very do-able but 27 would be difficult.

What is my point...? Well, I wasn't sure to begin with but I guess it is that I'm not too worried about the discrepancy. I'm confident we can average at least 1.5 points per game away so if we can take maximum, or very near maximum, points at home then we should not be too worried. Home form is still key.

And lets face it, we do not draw many, so 1.5 points per game average is quite possible

Exactly, it's just winning half, or slightly under, and drawing a few. We've got 10 points from 8 games so far. An average of 1.25. If we win the next match it will be 13 from 9 which is only a shade under the 1.5 average. I think most would also expect us (provided no one good leaves) to have a better second half to the season than first.

He could misplace every pass, give away free kick after free kick, get the ball and hoof it into the crowd, he could even score an own goal a game...

I would still think he's better than Buttersh*t.

That's because you have a strange and completely irrational dislike of Butterfield that makes you look a wee bit silly.

I always say the same about Dickson and Harding. I always plump for Harding becuase I want someone who is a defender first, If he can get forward well all the better but first and foremost he has to be a good defender.

A quite magnificent set of results over Christmas. Well done to all involved at the club.

We are in a super position now to push on and secure promotion this season. It will certainly be tough and as the comparative tables show, this season is much, much tighter. Any poor results will more than likely result in dropping 2,3, even 4 places at a stroke, so the pressure really is on now - not just for the players but for the fans as well.

Watching Cardiff faltering away at the moment in the Championship hardens my beliefs that there will be plenty of twists and turns left in League One as well...

Miserable new year to you alpine. Were you at the game yesterday,

if you had been then you would have been impressed with Rickie lambert.

try and not excerbate your ANTS condition this year , its not good for you.

Rickie was my MOM followed closely by spiderman. By the way I was at the match

While I know what your getting at with Alpine. I was at the match yesterday and wouldn't agree with that statement (Chaplow was my MOM closely followed by Lallana) so does being at the match make a difference 22,000 people were there and there are probably 22,000 different opinions on the game.

Just my view doddsie , Chaplow was a close second for me. I love players snapping at the oppositions ankles reminds me of one of my all time favourites Brian O'Neil . shame I have a two day journey home tomorrow as I miss being at games on a week by week basis, I have seen ten games so far this season, yes that was me in the programme yesterday

Highlights are up on Saintsplayer now, albeit not the extended ones yet. One thing I didn't notice was that when Dickson was through and chipped it over the keeper, there was a blatant handball from their defender in the box. Now I don't know if he played advantage or not the ref, but I didn't see him go back and book the fella.

Can you name one decent thing he has done out of every minute he has spent on the pitch in a Saints shirt? Because in all honesty, I can't. Charlton fans couldn't wait for him to line up against them as they had him on loan and soon come to the same conclusion as myself. He's sh*t.

Richardson on the other hand, from what relatively little we have seen of him, looks very, very good and I think we will soon be seeing why he was in the Team of the Year.

ah from Orkney? now I get the viking refrence. I think Chaplow is just what we've been missing in midfield.
