Just looked at the table and I've now got a nosebleed.

It's now all about who can put a run together and we should be well capable of doing it (even if we have lots more away games).

After these last 2 games confidence must be high and we should fear no-one.

No excuses lads, it's in your own hands now.

27 shots too, which is pretty good.

Fully agree though, need to follow this up with some decent away victories. If we start performing away from home, I'll be getting more confident. Alps is right though in the last few years (in fact for as long as I can remember), Saints have a habit of building your hopes up just to turn in some unbelievable dross when you think we are nailed on to win.

This year though, maybe, just maybe we will be as good as we think we are.

Technically worse as we didn't start this season on -10

Look at the games played. Last year at this point we had played three more games. That's obviously worth a possible extra 9pts yet we are only 4pts off it. We'd only need to win two of those games to make it a better record.

Played three games less though, technically? If I'm reading that right?

Very much so, if we win those extra games it will be better. But as it stands results wise it has been similar.

What is interesting, petty points aside, is how much more bunched the top of the table seems this year. Also just shows what an implosion Leeds had second half of the season.

That really was one of the most attacking displays i've ever seen from Saints at St Marys, 8-0 really wouldn't have flattered us in the slightest. Credit to the entire team today, Lallana and Chamberlain seemed a little jaded at times but still put in a good shift, good seeing Chaplow getting stuck in throughout, and Fonte was different class at times.

Keep all our players in the window and get some luck on the injuries front and we'll win this league.

Best start to the New Year I could have hoped for.

lamberts unfit. before too long he'll be benched because of the likes of lallana and barnard

But some of his linkup work was sublime and to be honest I'd much rather several players scoring goals regularly than having to rely on Lambert like we did last season. He is playing as part of a team and is regularly working the channels and laying on goal scoring opportunities for others.

At half time I thought we just, and only just, deserved to be in front. It didn't feel like we were really on top.

The second goal changed the atmosphere and then after the third - well it was Brazil wasn't it?! I cant remember feeling so relaxed about a result and just waiting for the next goal. It could have been double figures.

Great all round, clean sheet, so many shots on goal. Special mention for Lallana and Chaplow...and well done Guly. A chance to get some momentum now.

Great win and really could have been 7 or 8. Chaplow had one clawed away from the top corner first half, Barnard put a 1 on 1 just over, lallana had a 1 on 1 brilliantly saved, then the goalie somehow ran back to drag a shot ( from Dickson I think) away fron the goal. Great stuff!!

Well done Saints, now let's stay in the top 2 (first would be nice... but I'll settle!). Onwards, and hopefully, upwards!!

Great just looked at the fixtures and a 12.30 on Monday Huddersfield v Sheff Wed, this means anything but a draw and we will start our game at 3pm in 3rd place! DAM!

Enjoyed that! A very comfortable win (apart from 20mins at the start where they made it hard for us).

Guly should have had a hat-trick - the guy is getting more confident and more accustomed to this league, the oppo. at this level cannot track his movement as he's so clever. But of course...he's **** and we should call him a taxi. Never mind.

Lalana was a joy to watch, you would pay just to watch him on the ball for 90mins. Everything good about us always went through him, the agility he has to take a touch, spin on the ball and then find a player is great. He's the best player in the league.

Frustrated for Lambo today, he played well again but he didn't get that break for the goal - but he did try his hardest, he had a couple of thumping efforts at goal but as unlucky.

The 2nd half was just too easy though, the subs that Exeter made screwed the game up for them and it became 1 way traffic and we really should have had at least 6, no exaggeration. But who cares - we got 4, we're 2nd in the league at the start of the year. I've got a feeling that 2011 could be a year to remember...

Davis - 7 - Not much to do, kicking was better today.

Richardson - 7 - One brilliant run at the start of the game which setup lambo (i think) and generally solid throughout. Our best RB.

Fonte - 7 - Not tested massively, but calm, collected and composed on the ball - had a chance to score in the first half too.

Seaborne - 7 - Good to see him back against his former club and he was solid. Again, not really tested - but did what he had to do.

Harding - 7 - Up and down the flank as usual, put a couple of good balls in the box and defended in his normal way.

Chambo - 7 - He got an assist with a great run - but other than that, it was a frustrating afternoon for him. I'm not sure if he was still nursing a knock of sorts, but he was a little off colour. To be expected though, he's only a kid!

Morgan - 8 - Excellent player, ran the midfield today - I don't think he gave the ball away once and he constantly picked the right pass.

Chappers - 8 - That's why we signed him, tenacious and box to box. He was in their faces all game.

Lallana - 9 - MOTM - So good, love watching him. I really hope we get him signed up...but I reckon he'll hold fire until he knows what league we're in.

Lambo - 7 - Frustrating game for him, but still good. He looks much slimmer and is more involved in our attacking play. Unlucky not to have at least 1 goal.

Guly - 8 - 2 Goals and a general guly performance - put himself about, ran the channels and moved the Exeter CB's all over the show. He needs to be signed.

Here's my scores on the doors for a game we could have won 8-1!!!!!!!

Davis - 7 - A couple of good saves and looked fairly comfortable

Richardson - 7 - Some good play in the first half, but faded in the second half.

Fonte - 7 - Looked a bit ropey at times and was lucky to get away with quite a bit of man handling (he can certainly play much better).

Seabourne - 6 - Probably our weakest player, would prefer someone else in there with Fonte.

Harding - 7 - All sweatbands and effort. Played pretty well, particularly going forward. Messed up a couple of simple balls.

Chamberlain - 8 - Very impressive at times. Skinned their left back on numerous occasions.

Chaplow - 8 - That something we have been missing. the perfect midfielder for this division.

Schneiderlin - 7 - Despite my reservations, thought he was much better today and even got forward. Missed too many challenges in the middle of the park though.

Lallana - 9 - First class, just wayyyyyyyyyyyy too good for this division. Some of his skill, control and vision was phenomenal.

Lambert - 7 - Played a good role in the win today, just needs to be a bit more mobile and get a couple of flukey goals.

Guly - 8 - Very good, should have had a hat trick though. Typical confidence player who after he scored his first was just really up for it.

Subs:

Dickson - 6 - Think he missed the sitter at the end.

Barnard - 7 - Also missed a chance but scored a decent goal and was always in the thick of it.

Gobern - 6 - Not really on long enough to make an impact.

They should have had a goal early on, but we really did create 8 or 9 gilt edged chances. A very good day at the office and very happy to be starting the New Year in an automatic spot.

How many more could we have had? Cleared off goal line, good saves etc??

Davis - not tested, looked safe when had limited to do

Richardson - 8 strong, involved a lot, same wayward passing, good player

Fonte - 7 - caught out of position few times, not his best game

Seabourne - 7 - solid, too much hoof

Harding - 6 - gave away easy possession too much

Chamberlain - 7- Very impressive at times. Skinned their left back on numerous occasions, then disappears for too long. -typical winger!

Chaplow - 8 - lively, good movement and tackles

Schneiderlin - 8.5 controlled midfield, so comfortable on the ball, set up much of our good play

Lallana - 9 - can't be bettered for skill or work rate. Excellent. MOM

Lambert - 7.5 getting sharper each game

Guly - 8 - glides around, skillfull, tries something different, happy to keep shooting despite stick his misses were getting and came good. Hope we keep him

Subs:

Dickson - 6 - Think he missed the sitter at the end.

Barnard - didn't do much apart from miss one score one!

Gobern - looked quick, not on long

Not sure why you'd want us wasting bandwidth and time by going on another thread to see the ratings. Would make much more sense to keep those and the poll to one thread; this one.

Thanks for the comments guys, for those that can't make every game your opinions are very helpful. What a nice way to begin the year.

amazed at people moaning about Rickie, the team has scored 8 goals in 2 home games, he is leading the line, creating space for Chamberlain, Guly and Lallana, and draws 2 players every time he gets the ball.

football is a team game and all 11 plus subs contributed to the victory

now we need to re produce the performance on Monday

I enjoyed the game apart from a spell in the 2nd half when we allowed the yokels to come at us It could have been a lot more than just 4 - 0

mom was a close rune thing spiderman chaplow and a few others but for me my mom is Rickie Lambert , he did every thing but score . made himself available won load sin the air , laid goals and passes on and but for the yokels putting there bodies in the way of his shots he would haave scored

2nd and upwards

Tactic change for the 2nd half made a huge difference - what a great feeling on New Years day and also getting back in time to see Poopey being trounced. Could have been 7 or 8 for us today but very happy I put a fiver on Saints to win 4-0 but next time could they the final goal score a little earlier than the 92nd minute pls :)

For fifty minutes it was pretty even,in the end we should have won by 7 or 8. Guly was my man of the match followed closely by Chaplow and Lallana.Morgan had his best game of the season for me as well.[if Lallana could finish off some of his own chances that he has made for himself,he would be some player].

4 -0 and we hardly seemed to get out of first gear. Suppose we didn't need to........

Davis - 6 A little pannicky on a couple of crosses - but decent enough when needed which wasn't too often!

Richardson -4 almost every single time he had the ball he gave it away aimlessly - very poor. Gets a 4 for his defensive display only.

Seabourne - 7 Looked ok really.

Fonte - 8.5 - very assured - class act.

Harding - 8 Tireless running didn't put a foot wrong

Schneiderlin - 8 - Not a fan of his but I have to say today he played very well but he did have time on the ball today which Exeter afforded him in truck loads.

Chaplow - 8.5 - I love him, so much tenacity and he reads the game so well.

Lallana - 9 - Such a terrific player to watch.

Chamberlin - 8 - great early on and good later on.

Lambert - 8 - incredibly link up play again , very unselfish and unlucky not to score - a real handful for the Exeter defence.

Guly - 8 .5 best I've seen him play by a long way - I am being won over.

Thank God someone has accurately reported on how poor Richardson was today.

He offers nothing going forward and his passing was truly shocking.
