Ohio Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Don't ya just LOVE when the Christmas period goes your way?
Legod Third Coming Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 This needs to be the second leg of a winning run from now until the title is confirmed. Well done lads and Ads.
SNSUN Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Next stop the Championship, Portsmouth - start shytting your panties. Ok, without getting carried away, two great results, but we've got to start being consistant and winning the away games. In this form, we could smash Blackpool...
skintsaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 seems the break from the weather has given us a chance to improve on certain things...and get players 100% fit. 8 goals in 2 games....lovely stuff.
RobM Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Exactly the sort of game and win we needed. Not just a win, but a comfortable and controlled win against a decent team. 2nd in the league
Under Weststand Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Fabulous start to the new year up to 2nd long may it continue.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 nice win sounded like we could have been into double figures with the score. but now the hard work really starts from this day on, we now have to work even harder to make sure we do not give up this automatic spot.
Ewell Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 A couple of good home wins is great but now we need to start picking up points away from home especially as we have more away games left to play. Getting 3 points is a must on Monday. COYR
martyg1950 Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Clean sheet as well great climb up to 2nd, consistency vital now tho as there are still 6 teams who can dislodge us in one game if we mess up. BUt hey! superb back to back results to close the old year and start the new. Look out Brighton, we're coming to get you...... EVIL LAUGH!!
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Clean sheet as well great climb up to 2nd, consistency vital now tho as there are still 6 teams who can dislodge us in one game if we mess up. BUt hey! superb back to back results to close the old year and start the new. Look out Brighton, we're coming to get you...... EVIL LAUGH!! Amazingly, I think this is the highest I have ever seen Southampton in any League, ever. Makes me happy!
Saint 76er Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Just the position we needed to be in going into January, in order to attract quality players in the transfer window ...
saints-cris Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Chuffed, scoring goals again.. now to win a scrappy game away at a team at the foot of the table. Win that and I really think were in business.. One good run and we can give ourself breathing space. With Huddersfield V Sheff Wed on Monday if we can win we can get further away from one of them. One game at a time and we can hopefully break away, we certainly have it in us. Great result.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 2nd place, clean sheet, scored 8 in two games and only 1 conceeded, Burley Sacked. Just need Watford to beat Cheats FC, to make it the best new year ever!!!
Dark Munster Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 A couple of good home wins is great but now we need to start picking up points away from home especially as we have more away games left to play. Getting 3 points is a must on Monday. COYR 5 more home games played than away (13 played at home so far, only 8 away). I've never seen such a discrepancy before. Given Saints rather weak away form (W3 D1 L4) am I the only one a bit worried?
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Dibden ,AAhhh you young pup. 2nd place in 82-83.
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Amazingly, I think this is the highest I have ever seen Southampton in any League, ever. Makes me happy! Happy too, but not really amazing. Would have had to have been 1st to be higher, that hasn't happened since 1984 (?), before that in the late 70s, not sure if we were ever 1st but were 2nd, and before that in the mid 60s. I remember them all, but then I am an old git.
ericofarabia Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Just the position we needed to be in going into January, in order to attract quality players in the transfer window ... It certainly won't do us any harm fo sure!! Pity liverpool scrambled a win ... Torres and Gerrard would have been nailed on certs for us!!
skintsaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Dibden ,AAhhh you young pup. 2nd place in 82-83. we were top for a bit i think
David Strover Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Great result and performance by the sound of it. With Swindon losing today and now being three points off relegation I can't see them holding onto Charlie Austin (even if he doesn't come to us). Perhaps he's looking at the table (and shots on goal we have every game) and starting to think.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 5 more home games played than away (13 played at home so far, only 8 away). I've never seen such a discrepancy before. Given Saints rather weak away form (W3 D1 L4) am I the only one a bit worried? But we've got the right team on the field now, it will make all the difference sometimes.
TopGun Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Excellent performance. Things should get even better with this squad.
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Alpine says Adkins isn't up to it. But at least he was right abut Burley (and one of the things I always agreed with Alps on).
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 COYR! 2 for Guly too.... One issue - played 13 @ home only 8 away so far! Still 2nd! What a boost Happy NY everyone
martyg1950 Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Alpine says Adkins isn't up to it. Damn.... just when I was feeling good about things, I guess it must have been a ****e game and a lucky win then and yeah... we are still only 14 points of relegation, sorry Alps - Adkins OuT!!
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Alpine says Adkins isn't up to it. I wasnt the only one after losing to Brentford and being 0-1 down to Huddersfield. Anyway, enough of the diversion. This feels like a win of massive proportions in more ways than one today. We have finally broken into the top 2. The only thing that can deny us auto promotion now is ourselves, imo. Interesting times ahead, definitely. Going to look for comments about Lamberts contribution now, since I see that as the major black cloud on the promotion horizon. We won 4-0 and he didnt score.
SteveBish Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Yes 2nd get in just need to stay there or above now
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 we were top for a bit i think Yes your right, but Dibden never knew that!! lol
yorkie Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Good day at the office but it can be all undone if we fail to turn up on Monday - fantastic for the squad and fans...keep it up!
ericofarabia Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 5 more home games played than away (13 played at home so far, only 8 away). I've never seen such a discrepancy before. Given Saints rather weak away form (W3 D1 L4) am I the only one a bit worried? Good reality check ... one bad weekend and we could be outside the top six before you could say WTF !! But being 2nd and scoring (and missing goals!!) for fun against pretty good teams must breed confidence and we should fear nobody and hopefully that will be reflected with good away performances. COYS
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Good day at the office but it can be all undone if we fail to turn up on Monday - fantastic for the squad and fans...keep it up! Yep. And its an issue we've faced countless times over the past 3 or 4 years.
OttawaSaint Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 In 87 or 88 we were top of the old 1st (prem) after 3 games...(beat West Ham, Luton and QPR)...
Thedelldays Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Adkins is crap and the players don't play for him Lol
Stepgar Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 Happy New Year Saints. Thank you for making this a perfect New years celebration. Momentum is the key and this could be a fantastic time to play the Daggers ( although we all know how we can sometimes implode). Shame Brighton and Bournemouth managed to get results today would have closed a gap one end and opened a gap the other. Oh well. Thanks anyway.
Dark Munster Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 But we've got the right team on the field now, it will make all the difference sometimes. I hope so. Bringing in a good striker during the window would help.
Stepgar Posted 1 January, 2011 Posted 1 January, 2011 saints player and cleared and now cant get on to solent........how frustrating!! links anyone?/
