Red and White Army Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 think if at the time of his appointment we were offered a manager who would get more points than any other until end of 2010 we would have jumped at the offer. If we had not have sacked Pardew, we might have not have had the post-Pardew malaise and we might be higher in the League right now. Sacking Pardew was still a stupid idea. NickG Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 (edited) To win this league, the team we have to overtake - Brighton. Their last 5 league games (most recent first) D L D D L - 5 league games without a win. They last won a league game on 2nd November. Tonight they had their best player sent off for violent conduct and will be suspended. Has their bubble burst? They lost Lua Lua with a broken ankle in the first of those defeats - and have not won a league game since he returned to Newcastle. Catchable? I think so. Red and White Army Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 But one you don't know the reasons behind. Unless it was for gross misconduct (if so, why is there a need to keep it secret?) then I don't see any other valid reasons for dismissing him at that time. Can you? Minsk Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 The upcoming game at Oldham will be a barometer of where we are - we're still a bit iffy on the road. And apart from sheff weds, we still have to play all the top sides on their patch. We have also played Huddersfield away. And I honestly believe we can take points from Brighton, Charlton and Bomo on their patches; which would give us a massive boost and dent their own ambitions. PokingFun Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 Our away form isn't great, but i don't think we've been given much of a chance to build up any away momentum this year. Our away fixtures have been very disjointed which probably doesn't help the consistency. Hopefully we can get a run of away games under our belts, but if the forecast is anything to go by for the new year week then I'm already worried about the daggers game. If it freezes they have no chance. I have posted below the away records of the top six in the PL and it highlights that most teams have away form that is worse than their fans might expect. It is simply not that easy to win away games even for the very best teams in the country. If you look at our away record this season its thereabouts with everyone else so as long as that continues and St Marys continues to be an absolute fortress under Adkins then that suggests we will be in the top 2 come the end of the season. alpine_saint Posted 30 December, 2010 Share Posted 30 December, 2010 To be honest we have been fortunate in that whilst we have stuttered teams ahead have not pulled away. He will need to find more consistency this half of the season but we are in the frame and that is the crucial thing. It will be interesting to see who he brings in. I hope you are right about good times ahead but there is still a lot of football to be played and we need to do better for the rest of the season. Your best post for years, sir. Sacking Pardew was still a stupid idea. On the other hand, we might have continued along a path of complete mediocrity and be lower than we are now. Pardew and the club had been going in different directions for months, since the February statement from Cortese brought it out into the open. FFS, let it lie now. Second-guessing is pointless. West End Saint Posted 31 December, 2010 Share Posted 31 December, 2010 It is all to play for we have stuttered a bit havent found really convincing form but we are in the mix we have the squad to win this league if we cant get a run of wins going and our top players hit form & stay fit we are in with a great chance of promotion. We have been wastefull in front of goal this season in the games we have lost & drawn we have missed loads of chances if Lambo hits form & Barney gets back in the side & scoring we will take some stopping but we must be more clinical & take our chances. I like NA think he is doing well I just want to see us go on a really good run so I feel convinced we are the team we should be even after the win against Udders I am still not 100% confident we will back the result up by beating Exeter & Daggers if we do I am going to start believing this will be the season we had all hoped for.
