Appy Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Brighton and Utd United yes, due to the fact they had the vast majority of the stand. Brighton did not.
Sour Mash Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 You just don't get it, do you? The away support is right up against the Itchen, you are on the other side of the ground, away supporters are all singing, consequently the away support is very noisy in the Itchen, on the other hand the Northam doesn't come through. You might be the noisiest part of the ground to you. but you are not as loud as you think. You are the noisiest Saints support, but it was much better when blocks 1-3 sandwiched the away support and mirrored the Northam singing. As for the list of teams that sound louder than the Northam in the Itchen, nearly every home game until the team gets well ahead and shuts them up. Do you get it now? I "get it" fine, thanks, sat in the Itchen many times myself, as well as all other parts of the ground, so I'm perfectly well placed to judge. "You are not as loud as you think" - well if you're making assumptions, how loud do I think we are? I never said the Northam were the best thing since sliced bread and everyone knows that having blocks 1-3 make a big difference, but there is not too much any of us can do about that. Man United drowned out the Northam without a doubt, but then they did also have block 42 and their away support is different class and do that everywhere. Brighton, maybe, their support was good. That's it for this season though. Or are you going to tell me that Yeovil, Carlisle, Notts County, Huddersfield etc all drowned out the Northam One thing that people always overlook when talking about the atmosphere at St Marys, is that it would be much, much better if more people, all around the ground bothered to get involved and make some noise - they don't, it's as simple as that.......... The9 Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 Wouldn't the point be for the Chapel to judge which set of fans they could hear, rather than any of the groups of people not equidistant from either Northam or away fans ? Obviously people right next to the home fans in the Itchen North are going to hear the away fans more when they're making some noise, they're much nearer. Equally I can only usually hear the away fans in short bursts or when we're very quiet, cos I'm near the middle of Block 41.
The9 Posted 21 March, 2011 Share Posted 21 March, 2011 How about what French supporters do and it works quite well down here. "He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!" "He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!" "He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!" Sing that while jumping. Imagine the whole of the northern end doing that, it would look really cool! I believe that's also an Argentinian song, the loosely translated words being "he who does not jump is an Englishman".
