it's easy to start new songs. just get ****ed and sing the same thing over and over until everyone else understands what your singing, thinks its good and then joins in. the best chants always start at away days when you're battered

I'm forever throwing bottles,

Pretty bottles in the air,

They fly so high,

Nearly reach the sky,

Like West West Ham they fade and die!

Pompeys always running,

Bournemouths running too,

Southamptons always running,

Running after you"

oldschool, like it. ''we had joy, we had fun, we had pompey on the run. but the fun didn't last, cos the bastards ran too fast''

West Broms' 'The lords my shepherd' always sounds impressive. Original and a good effort but don't think they changed the words to anything about their club and stick with:

The Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want;

He makes me down to lie

In pastures green; he leadeth me

The quiet waters by (The West Brom etc)

What about:

The Saints, my shepherd, I’ll not want;

Southampton until I die

To Saint Mary’s; Oh leadeth me

To follow our famous side (Southampton, Southampton)

Not heard that sung for a few years. I thought it was "Arsenals always running, pompeys running too" though.

Saints will tear you apart went well today.

The new Cortese one was half decent too. Good noise made today and a few new songs. I dunno who was trying the 'and that's the way we like it' song because it's what Ultras sing abroad, and they were getting the words wrong too.

Good to see we're living up to our noted reputation for originality. the joy division knock-off must now have more owners than a prosser has had STDs. Its a shame how far the impetus for many of our newish songs comes from listening and being outsung by the mancs the week before.

What's the Saints will tear you apart words?

And way Cortese song did you get going?

Saints will tear you apart, agaaaain. To the tune of Love Will Tear Us Apart Again by Joy Division.

I think the Cortese one was. 'Cortese, woah, Cortese, woah, he comes from Italy, he ****ing hates Pompey'.

'Lock up your daughters, the Saints are in town' was one that randomly popped in to my head and got an airing tonight too.

yeh mate i do - i go to about 90-95% of away games each season. (for a bit of history: the 'yellow submarine/pompey going down with no money in the bank' song was first sung in Jan 2009 away at Barnsley, the week after the mancs had been singing it about citeh at our place. Of course, as a superfan, you know all this)

mug

At the Charters Bar there were some people singing outside before the game, they had a Radhi Jaidi song which was quite amusing, although probably not to some on here

I do not know the tune so I cannot guide but the lyrics were IIRC:

My name is Radhi Jaidi, I look about 50, I play for a team in the south THE SAINTS

When I walk down the street all the people they ask me.. OI, GORGEOUS, WHAT'S YOUR NAME...

Have seen that suggested on here before. Would be good if we could find the tune out for it.

We're the red and white army, we're the red and white army!

Also, to the tune of 'I just can't get enough'

When I see Southampton,

I go out of my head,

I just can't get enough,

I just can't get enough,

All the goals that Rickie scores,

and the saves that Kelvin makes,

I just can't get enough,

I just can't get enough,

We slip and slide down the football league,

But I just can't seem to get enough, oh,

Do do do do do do do do,

do do do do do do do do,

do do do do do do do do,

do do do dooo

Repeat.

How about what French supporters do and it works quite well down here.

"He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!"

"He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!"

"He who doesn't jump is not a Saint heh!"

Sing that while jumping.

Imagine the whole of the northern end doing that, it would look really cool!

Celtic make a great atmosphere out of that song. Would be really good if we could get it going and those lyrics fit well.

I can imagine it now.. No one can remember the words so just sing the 'do do do' bit round and round.

Nah, it's fairly straightforward. The whole of Celtic park managed to catch on. Colchester? ;)

I would, but I look a ****ing idiot. The only song I've sung that's remotely caught on recently is Saints will tear you apart.

OH CAMPIONE,

The one and only,

We're Southampton,

They say our days are numbered,

We're not famous anymore,

But we still rule the South Coast like we've always done before,

OH CAMPIONE..

The one and only, etc etc

always thought this would work actually but I can see a massive tirade of anti- Liverpool posts following

I know it will be unpopular but all these ditties that nobody knows and because of the away supporters become a meaningless drone in the Itchen and the other end of the ground are never sung by anybody else. If you were really interested in making a loud supportive noise then 'the Saints go marching in' sung slow or fast is the Saints song and has the best chance of being sung by the whole ground. That way there could be a really loud noise supporting the team and drowning out the away support rather than a few hundred being drowned out by the away noise. The present practice dilutes the potential of a really loud noise. Forget all the ditties and sing the Saints song loudly.

Who are you trying to kid? Large parts of our home support don't sing because they don't want to, its as simple as that. How many home games has teh Northam been "outsung" by the away support this year?

What you lot in the Northam can't see is our supporters are tucked into one corner, a great swathe of empty seats then the away supporters in the other corner and you are only heard when the away supporters shut up now and again.

You might think you are making a lot of noise but you aren't making enough to drown out the away support which is next to the Itchen and drowns you out most of the time.

How many do we think stand in the Northam/Kingsland corner? I reckon 2,500. Very rarely an away support brings anywhere near that much.. I can't really name many times we've been outsung at home at all.

It doesn't matter what you think because I'm telling you what I hear in the Itchen and that is the away supporters who are right up against Block one. It doesn't need many more than were there on Saturday to blanket out the Northam where I am in block 5.

Right, so you're trying to tell us that Sheff Weds drowned out the Northam on Saturday?

Back to your original point - If those in the Kingsland, Itchen and Chapel made more of an effort, then whether or not the Northam was "drowned out" or not, wouldn't make any difference. I go week in, week out, home and away and I've sat in every stand this season at St Mary's and while the Northam is far from perfect, it makes a far better effort than the vast majority of other home supporters around the country.

OK, give me a list of teams this season that have "drowned out" the Northam?

I can only think of Wolves who have properly impressed me with their home support. Ours is one of the best by far. Not many grounds have such a large standing group together like we do in the Northam either.

I think his point is that we think we are loud because we sit amongst the noise, whereas a small away support tries to sing and from the Itchen you can't actually hear us, which is why that corner don't seem to join in with us(me included) from the Northam is because unlike we may think, they can't actually hear us.

Not saying our singing is quiet and poor, but I don't think we are as loud as we think, away I think we are much better than a lot of teams, but home atmosphere is severely lacking these days imo

You just don't get it, do you? The away support is right up against the Itchen, you are on the other side of the ground, away supporters are all singing, consequently the away support is very noisy in the Itchen, on the other hand the Northam doesn't come through. You might be the noisiest part of the ground to you. but you are not as loud as you think. You are the noisiest Saints support, but it was much better when blocks 1-3 sandwiched the away support and mirrored the Northam singing. As for the list of teams that sound louder than the Northam in the Itchen, nearly every home game until the team gets well ahead and shuts them up. Do you get it now?

Frankly yes until we went two goals ahead and they gave up.
