Taxi for Do Prado.

To be honest, I think it's time we abandoned post counts and replaced it with a status which shows how often people actually go to games.

I'm not sure what having made 15000 posts on teh internet does to help the validity of somebody's judgement on a particular player.

Having owned a season ticket for eight years probably gives somebody a more informed judgement.

Starting posts with "Having listened to the game on the radio ...." on the other hand ...

Yeah, he played well the other day admittedly. Didn't play well against Huddersfield and was awful against Brentford (as was the whole team). I support him as a player and hope he has proved me wrong following his Exeter performance.

You shouldn't measure the quality only on the amount of goals somebody scores. Guly had an all round better game against Huddersfield, then he actually had yesterday, although that wasn't bad either. As usual you will always find a good number of backslappers for a goal scorer, even though they usually don't notice any other part of the game.

My guly opinion hasn't changed. He has the ability to do well in this league and higher but has been erratic. Understandable in a new country and I hope the goals give him some confidence.

Adrian..? erratic Guly?

Lambert 2 goals in last 10

Chamberlain 3 in last 10

Lallana 4 in last 10

" Erratic " GULY 5 in last 10 ... Yeah sure !

and not bad for someone who's only been at the club for 4 months - and still can't talk English to his team mates.

Maybe the rest of the squad should learn some Portuguese!

MOTM today. And what a nicely taken goal. :)

Indeed. I was with a couple of Daggers supporting friends and after Guly's run and goal they just looked at each other and after a few seconds stunned silence just said to eachother: "superb - different class. He's far too good for this division".

I then failed miserably to convince them that he'd failed to impress some Saints fans up until recently.

That's because he had failed to impress until recently, hth

But Guly hasn't been good until recently.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Excellent though Guly has been in recent games, he hasn't quite been good enough to change the past. Perhaps the Daggers fans trousers spoke to wouldn't have been quite so over-awed if they'd seen his performance against Shrewsbury, Rochdale or Brentford.

Anyway onwards and upwards. Surely this thread has run its course now.

Well this is the thing. I think most Saints fans think he has. But what I meant really was how the Daggers fans must have perceived Saints fans. They're watching their team get well beaten and then they hear that the oppositions best player (on the day) isn't rated by some fans. Rubs the salt into the wounds a little I guess.

Fair point. Although I feel there are two types of fans when it comes to judging the merits of new players during the "failing to impress" (aka settling in) period.

There are those who hastily translate "failing to impress" into "he's crap" versus those who wait to judge until the embedding process has reached the end of a more realistic timeframe.

I believe the word is pragmatism.

HTH :-)

You can only judge a player by what you see and before the last couple of games he has been pretty crap and has had enough games to prove himself. He's done well recently but this doesn't stop us commenting on previous poor performances.

Watching the highlights on Saints Player just now, shows a lot more than FL show, and Guly effectively started the move for our first goal by chasing back, stealing possession and setting AOC away down the right. Missed a couple of difficult headed chances, but so many chances involved him... he was integral to a lot of good things we did it seems.

his first game was the pathetic home defeat in JPT, with a team with no spirit or organisation, crowd with no atmosphere - first of three straight defeats.

Not easy time to arrive.

Showed pace and good touch, but couldn't get into the game - partly due to playing LM infront of Harding who was either igniring him or shouting at him!

To be fair, he was only adopting the normal English person's method of communicating with foreigners who don't speak English. ;)

Yep, that's what impressed me most. One minute he was leading the the front line the next he was tracking back winning the ball deep in our own half.

I didn't think he had poor performances. i just think for fans on here Rory did a great job highlighting the player, and the response has got the doubters looking at other parts of his game.

Taxi for Rory. Happy now?

We all make mistakes, I said that Shearer was over-rated, and not a good finisher when he left us.Lol

To be fair, he missed loads of one on ones for us, but the moment he pulled on a Blackburn shirt he just grew

in your eyes DD. if you care to go back to the Yeovil game thread, i then said he was likely to be a good player for us.

I may have missed games he was poor in, but when I have seen him play I have seen a consistent desire to do well.

I don't think he is the new Maradona , but I suggest most people came on rubbishing you and Rory as it seemed that you were blinkered. He will like all players have good and bad games,

As I said on here after his five minutes (most of his touches being rubbish, probably due to over anxiousness) against Rovers, "This guy will turn out to be a class act!" It was obvious he had the awareness, movement and willingness to do a great job for us.

I have seen some of the games he was poor in just like I missed the last two games he has been good in, one thing is for sure everyone will have different views of players but that doesn't make us right or wrong just opinionated.

So if someone came on here and said that in his opinion MLT was useless and over-rated would he be right or wrong or would you value his opinion?
