One of those Sky Sports "understands"

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6638388,00.html

Southampton winger Jason Puncheon could be set for a move to the Premier League, skysports.com understands.

The 24-year-old has just completed a loan spell at Millwall and he was particularly impressive for Kenny Jackett's side.

Millwall are now desperately trying to negotiate a new loan for Puncheon - who scored five goals in seven appearances for The Lions.

However, Southampton are now fielding enquiries from a host of clubs from both the Premier League and the Championship.

The likes of Wigan, Bolton, West Ham, Swansea, Cheats FC, Leicester and Middlesbrough are all believed to be keeping tabs on his situation

sounds like there is enough people interested in him to get a good price.

If Adkins doesnt see him fitting in then fair enough but I would be asking him if he wants to fight for a place at a club that is obviously going somewhere or if he wants a fresh start somewhere else?

Good luck to him what ever happens.

Best case for us is surely that Puncheon comes back with his head right and those new shooting boots he got at Millwall and gets stuck into ripping this league apart. I haven't been one of Puncheons biggest fans but he has shown while out on loan that he can play very well surely we want him playing for us?

Always thought he was and is a quality player..

Taking into account all the circumstances between him and management..

IF at all possible keep him in the team/squad till the end of the season...Great player..

If not able to rebuild the old bridge..get as much dosh/player exchange as possible.

I hope he can return to the fold....

Everyone will blame the fact he doesnt want to be here as the reason for any poor performances if he stays and I for one wont feel confident that he wants the best for the team. I'd love to see him carry on his current goal scoring run whilst with us but cant help but think it wouldnt happen and that the bridges are far too burnt to bring him back into the side regularly.

Maybe he does want to be here though and his goal scoring run was a way of proving himself to saints?!?! who knows..

He certainly seems to be the 'focal point' in the training shots in the Adkins interview. I see no reason why he wouldn't start on the bench on Saturday - or even start if Chambo is given a rest. He is clearly a very talented player, just wasnt very effective at the start of the season. Lets not forget how affective he was for us at the end of last season - especially the games against Walsall & Huddersfield last year. Am I right in saying that he got the most assists for us last year ?

Or if Chambo is sold

that should read "...according to some of you lot." Not everyone dislikes him or doesn't rate him.

myself being one of them, anyone with an ounce of knowledge on football can see he is a very talented player, just needs to be managed correctly.

I don't think anybody disagrees that he is a talented player, but his attitude is certainly questionable. Seeing as he doesn't last anywhere long, and fans of his previous clubs warned us about his attitude when he came here, it makes you wonder if he is capable of being managed correctly.

I wouldn't want a situation where the manager is treating one player differently because he sulks if he doesn't get his own way.

With regards Puncheon, I believe it to be a massive shame, but I think if we can get a decent return on him, it is time for him to go. The team and results haven't suffered by his absence.

he seemed to fade in some second half early in the season - but thuoght (apart from his shooting) he was playing pretty well. He tries to unlock a defence which means he often loses possession - I would rather someone who tries to make something happen even if it doesn't work all of the time than someone playing it safe

Why must people like you always use such arrogant judgmental terms ?

It doesnt f**king matter who the problem is, the management or the player, or what the problem is, the simple fact of the matter is that he doesnt deliver for us, when he plays for us, in the style and set-up we play, we have done better without him, and he has done better without us. Seeing as we arent going to change a winning formula (unless it means getting in players better than we have), he is history where we are concerned and he is probably just as happy with that fact.

This stuff about him coming back here, being welcomed with open arms by everyone not just a small minority of deluded naiive happy-clappy fans, and carrying on where he left off at Millwall is complete fantasy b*ll*cks.

I can't fault this. Some on here seem to be blaming the boo boys for his want-away attitude but the boo boys didn't just start picking on him because they were bored/lagered up and wanted something to do.

Trouble is Nick, it wasn't working ANY of the time at all, if it worked some of the time then yes it would have been tolerated more. And more often than not he was also getting in the way of other players shots.

And can you remember blazing it over the bar for 1 yd out in an early season match?

Trouble with his early season form was that he wasn't looking up for other players and he was continually running down blind alleys.

Maybe playing him on the left is the answer who knows? Maybe he should be given a run of games on the left see how he fares. If it doesn't work, farm him out on loan again!!

With the exception of the numerous times when he has, and the notable improvement that could be seen in his game when Adkins first arrived. Puncheon will probably have some ideas on why it worked for him at Millwall and I don't think Adkins is the kind of manager who will ignore the opportunity to get the best out of someone.

Puncheon leaving has for some reason made our team better. Whether that's due to better spirit in the camp or the team played now is tactically more suited is best known to Adkins and his coaches. However, Puncheon needs to get with Saints program - not the other way around - and if does not want to do this then he shouldn't be here. Hopefully he will either knuckle down and play solidly for us or he will leave by the end of January. I do suspect we will see him on Saturday in the shop window though.

Because it's true. Only an idiot would say he isn't a good player, although with your experience of having seen him player every week for the last year maybe you know better? And i've not said anything about welcoming him back with open arms but i wouldn't mind betting some of the people claiming the player we signed for £250k and has been apparantly sh*t for 75% of the time he has been here is now worth a £1m, are the same ones shouting at him for being sh*t, lazy, not interested etc either on here or at SMS. Believe me there were plenty.

You've raised a good point - I wonder if we sent a coach to watch him at Millwall to zone in on what was clearly working for him.
