dubai_phil Posted 24 December, 2010 Share Posted 24 December, 2010 The Seychelles have appointed a Junior Football Coach as the Manager of their National Team after mistaking him for someone who played with Keegan. They found out and still gave him a 6 month trial. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/8223611/Junior-football-coach-lands-job-as-Seychelles-manager-following-mistaken-identity.html Maybe there IS hope for D_P & OldNickh in their efforts to extend their managerial careers post forum matches

Administrators make mistakes whatever their level. To me it's laughable that Qatar as host nation will be qualified, it'll be a Turkey shoot. When I was coaching at a provincial town 70 km south of St Etienne we had their national side there for a friendly. Our collection of town hall workers, washer uppers and what have you beat them 2-0, nice lads though.
JackFrost Posted 24 December, 2010 Share Posted 24 December, 2010 Qatar won't be that bad, they'll go out in the group stages I suspect and possibly get a point. Besides it's still 12 years away, plenty of time for improvement yet.

Still they're triers all right and they may do a Bahrain in offering nationality to "nearly men" from african nations.
JackFrost Posted 24 December, 2010 Share Posted 24 December, 2010 (edited) won't be that bad.....I've seen them and they are that bad. Still they're triers all right and they may do a Bahrain in offering nationality to "nearly men" from african nations. The Cameroon national team were bloody awful in the late 70s, yet they weren't that bad at Italia '90. . . The one I'm looking forward to is Equatorial Guinea co-hosting and playing in next year's African cup of nations Let's look at how Qatar did in the world cup qualifying for 2010 1st round: beat Sri Lanka 6-0 on aggregate 2nd round: bye to 3rd round 3rd round group stage - finished 2nd in the group, level on points with Australia, and finished above 2007 Asian Cup winners Iraq and China, who qualified for the world cup in 2002 Final qualifying round: Finished 4th in Group A where they finished behind Australia, Japan and Bahrain but ahead of Uzbekistan. So at their current level now they'll be no worse than a Saudi Arabia or Iran team in the world cup. And as their domestic league is currently attracting players like Nadir Belhadj and Quincy Owusu Obeyie (Yep the very same skates) it'll only improve the standard. 12 years is a long time. Besides they'd do a lot better than the Seychelles. . . Edited 24 December, 2010 by JackFrost

Trust me, everybody from us ex pats through to the guys at the top in football over here fell off their bar/coffee shop stools in the same way you lot did. Knowing it more than you do it's an even more nuts decision than you'd believe IF you are a "Western" football fan. I won't go into more because this is the innernet and I enjoy myself in this part of the world. But, the other thing that everyone did at the same time as picking themselves up off the floor was to get on the mobiles. Qatar is not about competence, it was about making Oil Tanker loads of money. Don't just sit there get on the gravy train. Seychelles? Damn, wish I'd seen the advert

Like England nearly did to Alumina Frying Pan or whatever his name is from the Arsnil Or the Cricket boys did with KP. Won't happen as to get round the FIFA regs the players would need passports. I've been here 17 years and the number of passports issued by Gulf Nations to "outsiders" in that time is the grand sum of hmmm pretty much between 1 and

There are a few Qataris there believe it or not LOL Sebastian Soria (Uruguay born) is one of their key players and started playing for the Qatari team within about 2 years of first playing for a Qatari side. saintupnorth Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 They will ship a load of Brazilians over in time for 2022 I reckon, TBH I would be surprised if there are any Qatar-born players by the time their WC comes round!!
