4th Ashes Test.

I think Collingwood should be dropped for an extra bowler. The Aussies are preparing a pitch that won't take spin so that takes Swann out of the game and leaves us with just three quick bowlers. Bring Bresnan in for Colly and we wouldn be strenthening the bowling without weakening the batting too much.

Talking cricket,as I cannot start a thread, would it be right to assume that Hampshire have signed Myburgh the South African because

Sean Ervine is going to play for Zimbabwe again. Any ideas Ron.[From a personal point of view, this would be very disappointing as SE

is one of my favourite Hants players].

Regarding England if the reports are to be believed Tim Tremlett could be the main strike bowler in the next test.

But if he's going to continue saying things like Tim Tremlett then lets hope he doesn't.

Doubt there will be any changed by the way. They'll back Collingwood to prove all his doubters wrong and isn't Finn top wicket taker in the series or something?

It seems the pattern lately that the under fire batsman suddenly finds great form, for example Cook and Hussey.

Lets hope Colly can do the same.

Rumours today that Jimmy Anderson pulled up with a sore hammy after Perth test and may be a doubt. Have to play him surely, unless it's really bad. Ponting is expected to play with his broken pinkie. KP says so anyway, he says they just inject pain blockers and away you go!

Huge game this, of course, and first day crowd approaching 100,000 is expected. Not a good time for England to start reinventing their bowling line up though ...

What worries me about England and in particular our batting is that when one fails, they all do.

The difference with the Aussies, as it always was with their great sides of the past, is that one or two, ie Hussey, Haddin and to a degree Watson, generally step up when they need to.

I can see more pain for us in Sydney, but think we'll still take "home" the urn, just!

Side strain for Anderson was the rumour on Cricinfo.

Think the big question is when will Morgan for Colly become a question. Morgan doesn't have the perfect technique for Test cricket, but as we have seen in many ODI's, he has bottle. Colly was out of form all last summer and even during his 90 odd in the warm up he wasn't fluid.

Switching Bell to 5 makes sense, but is Colly gonna wobble again? Would Morgan graft it out with bottle better? Doubt it for this test.

Well, I liked it

Monday, 20th December

Ricky Ponting is a doubt for the Boxing Day Test after going down with a nasty bout of shock on the second day at Perth. Michael Clarke remembers what happened.

“Yeah, well Mitch had just taken a wicket and I remember looking over at Ricky and the guy was like, open-mouthed, like he was in shock or something. He just froze in that position and we couldn’t shift him.”

The spasm of surprise was so bad that for the rest of the game the Australian captain had to be carried out onto the field like a statue and moved around on Michael Beer’s skateboard. Cricket Australia remain concerned at his condition.

“The biggest danger in a case like this,” explained Doctor Hilditch, “Is that with the mouth frozen in the open position, he is at risk of swallowing a fly and because he’s still in shock, he won’t know why he swallowed the fly. Perhaps he’ll die.”

Bloody Hell. Now THAT was a way to wake up. Slump down to make a cup of tea, slump into the lounge, put the TV on and and bleary eyed stare at the TV set and not quite focusing think, oh seems a slow scoring rate, must have rained. Then slowly pick up the (we have) Aussie Taters moaning and what I thought were highlight from a warm up game of Tremleet and WTF they got 98. Woo hoo!

56-0 and they got 98. Oh come on lads heads down and grind grind grind them

Makes a mockery of some of the text commentary (on sky sports I think it was) that suggested both teams would choose to bat first!! Brilliant to bowl the aussies out having put them in at Perth, get in the position and to blow it. The key was surely getting Hussey just before the rain at lunch - but then to cap it with Cook & Strauss still being there at the close.

Skintsaint really did choose the wrong test to go to!!!

What an awesome day.

Just simply awesome.

I'm sure I saw at least two Saints sash shirts in the crowd as well :D

So, in effect, we're 59-0 at the moment, and Australia don't get a first innings...

Unbelievable...

Really really wish I could have been there for today...

Lol @ Boycott saying they'd be 100-0 at lunch if we kept bowling like that after the 2nd over...

Aussies, the 'Bestest Fans In The World' TM

Well, logically not so daft, they were all convicts after all and that lot down the road are the only Town in England with 100% Asbo's (allegedly I once heard)

C'mon boys get them nailed tonight, I'm off on hols tomorrow for NY & not sure the hotel will have coverage on Star Sports

Well played England, and especially Trott & Prior with that record breaking Stand (at the MCG). You could see the life draining out of the Aussie bowlers.

Keep it going tomorrow 346 ahead is good but it is still a good pitch, the longer we bat on it the more it will wear and bring Swanny into the game.

Lol at the Aussie tater's talking about getting double tons and big contributions from Hughes & Smith setting England a tough target.

Yep, total desperation by Bill Lawrie, Slater et al. And the other funny bit is they seem to have forgotten we actually have a decent spinner in our team!

Aussies must be sick of the sight of Trotty by now, let's hope he can keep going and do what he did in the summer and get the remaining 59 runs for a double. They showed his batting average against the Aussies - at the moment it's around 90 something.

Slip inside Ricky Ponting’s mind

He’s trying to find

Some new players to play

He wants to play his older team

But that’s just a dream

They’re too old to play

He said he’d start a revolution in his head

But he’s been through all the players A to Z

Now there’s just a summertime of doom

If he loses the Ashes race

He is going to lose his place

Losing three would simply tear his heart out

So Ricky can wait

Shane Warne is too late

And there’s no Glenn McGrath

Gilchrist’s had his day

And don’t look back to Langer

He cannot play

Bat to a lead of 500 or so, declare and toy with them.

I think the Aussies have got a little too clever over the past two years with their Batting lineup.

1) Hussey throughout his career has been an opener, when he gets in - he stays in

2) Watson, Opener WTF? Exceeded expectations but a number 6 IMHO

3) Katich, was a middle order batsman, why move to open?

Anyway. This lineup looks far more frightening to me as a Pommie than the current lot.

Hussey

Katich / Hughes

Ponting

Clarke

North

Watson

Haddin

As for the bowlers, Hillfenhaus? Can't believe there is not a spinner in 11m population that cannot edge out his contribution.

Looking forward to this... we could win The Ashes in Australia TONIGHT!

Getting sleep between the end of day's play and then getting up in time to get to the Saints game will be tricky but worth it if we've already won...

And I have to admit it still feels weird being on the same side as mack rill...

Dont think there's a chance in hell we will win this tonight. Win it yes, but not tonight.

By tea tomorrow yes.

Feels great though. Much more pride in the England Cricket team right now than Football.
