SuperMikey Posted 18 December, 2010 Share Posted 18 December, 2010 (edited) Dead from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Influenced so many musicians who dominate music today, truly a legend in his own right. Was due to celebrate his 70th birthday in January. teamsaint Posted 18 December, 2010 Share Posted 18 December, 2010 well they certainly broke the mould when they made him. Hard to think that anybody like Beefheart could makeit in todays corporate climate. A sad day for music and art. RIP
Deppo Posted 18 December, 2010 Share Posted 18 December, 2010 A really sad day. Although I wasn't a big fan of The Damned, I liked his solo stuff especially his genius cover of 'Happy Talk'.

Fowllyd Posted 18 December, 2010 Share Posted 18 December, 2010 A one-off, and a genius in his own strange way. Hugely innovative, massively influential (he recorded nothing after 1982, but his influence is still felt now, which in itself speaks volumes), but never commercially successful. Wish I'd had a chance to see him play live. RIP Don.
Trader Posted 19 December, 2010 Share Posted 19 December, 2010 (edited) Yeah, as opposed to just a little bit unique. I thought I was the only one who found people saying "very unique" irritating. Seems to be a growing trend. Captain Beefheart though was truly unique, Trout Mask Replica in particular is a very strange album. He (and Zappa) will be missed. jjsaint Posted 20 December, 2010 Share Posted 20 December, 2010 I've always thought Trout Mask Replica was one of the best albums ever recorded. RIP Captain
No 2 to Maybush Posted 21 December, 2010 Share Posted 21 December, 2010 Who can forget the syncopation of The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot? Bat Chain Puller also a classic. RIP Mr. van Vliet.
