This is bizarre that we are top of the shooting table yet have only scored 26 goals. Only Colchester above us have scored less (25) but are way down the shooting table and Oldham have scored 27 from one less game and are still getting a better return.

Is it down to accuracy, mental application to stick the ball in the back of the net, too many shots from distance or what? And how to resolve it?

It seems to be effecting one player more than most: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Shooting/0,,10794~201010280~25,00.html

I think it's a purely mental thing. I think the players flap when in front of goal and miss cos the pressure is on and the whole team is generally in a psychological rut...

But our ratio of on target shots to off target is as good as most teams - ie we are having more shots, getting our fair share on target and still not scoring. Makes it even odder.

As I said on a thread I started recently, poor finishing is the sole reason we are not romping the league. This is why it is time to look at getting new people in the starting 11 upfront as it is really starting to hurt us now. It's also a reason why we should get rid of Schneiderlin - we would create plenty of chances without him, not suffer defensively and might actually score a few more.

nail on the head... but we need the players who can replace these inadequacies. Roll on Jan!

Even in games we have won we have missed lots of chances Peterboro for example we need to be more clinical in front of goal had Guly's header gone in Saturday it would have been a different game if we could of scored 1st half V Brighton different game.

Just goes to show how important it is to get Lambo back to his best we will need him or someone else to step up and score 20+ goals if we are going up this season.

We seem to have all the play & possesion early in games but if the goal doesent come when we are on top we run out of idea's and energy we need to finish the chances we create. How many teams have we played that create only 1 or 2 chances but take them as the stats show we create chance after chance & dont score enough goals

One word, 'Austin'.

Ability wise, yes, but from what I have heard from several people who have played with and against him, he is one obnoxious ****. Rumours of dressing room unrest at Swindon contributing to their poor form, centreing around a certain striker and his attitude.

I'd be quite happy to see an obnoxious little **** scoring shedloads of goals for Saints, but those rumours if true would be a worry.

does he do brawls in nightclubs??? if not that's a + for him then isn't it.
