January Transfer Window HCDAJFU

Harley had a decent first touch, beat Lallana one one one in the first half on just the one occasion. He then quickly moved inside and generally tried his best to link up the play but we were strong today despite them having three against our two in the middle. Tisdale clearly rates him as he gave him the free role (Toti position) which to me is only given to players with real talent. He doesn't have pace and he won't get that free role in our side so I just wonder where he would fit in. I'd like to see how he plays in a 4-4-2. If we are going to sign a winger from our division it should be one that has caused Harding problems as very few have done that in the last 18 months.

we won't lose anyone (we want) and we'll get a loan in to replace Puncheon should he go out. Cook from QPR.

I hope so, it would be madness to lose any of our spine.

Cook would be a great signing. TBH with Chambo starting to look like he can do what he does consistently then it may just be to get someone in as backup (if there is no-one who can better what we have)

I think we perhaps need a CB if Adkins does not believe that Martin/Seaborne are first choice.

Sharpe would be great but will never drop down here, i wouldn't have thought but then stranger things have happened.

This ain't a bad little thread - http://www.footballforums.net/forums/showthread.php/268698-The-deadwood-in-your-squad

From that list i would definately have a look at Clark Carlisle, Tyrone Mears, Simon Cox, Jobi Mcanuff, Shane Long (if you can get the best out of him), Luke Moore, Craig Fagan, Ivan Sproule, Lee Cook, Brian Howard, Nathan Tyson.

Simon Cox is a very decent shout though IMO.

Apparently 2 PL and 3 NPC teams have put loan offer in for him, I know QPR are one of the teams for a fact.

Last I heard it was down between Celtic and QPR.

so QPR are after both despite Warnock saying last week that he is not after anyone and is happy with current squad

Simon Cox,a bit of a forgotten man now.

From that site I noticed the following comment on one player mentioned above,Lee Cook:

Lee Cook - Nickname Crock, massive wages and not played in nearly a year and never going to be fit enough sadly

Patrick 'Wu-Tang' Agyemang - Donkey. Out of his depth even giving rides on Blackpool beach, were organising a fan whipround to get the RSPCA to put him out of his misery

Cook might therefore be the best loanee at the club, bar none,if he did not spend so much time in the treatment room.

Agyemang has previously been mentioned on here in about the last four transfer windows.

Sun Times building up Alex. Suggests £10m will be on table soon. Every top club watching him. Oh dear!

I really doubt it. For £10million you could get a proven Prem player. Things are a lot tighter than when Walcott and Bale left.

City and Spurs are the only two I can see spending that sort of money on a 17 year old, and City can afford much better. I'd f*cking hate it if he went to Spurs, Redknapp bleating on about how he's found another gem from "nowhere".

Eh......how can you say that our finances are tighter now than when those 2 left? We were so skint even the residents of cardboard city in London had more money. Unless I had miss read that part, then I apologise.

IMO the policy of looking for players who could do well in the division above is the right one. We have enough to get promoted as things stand and bringing in former big-name(ish) players just for the sake of it is not wise. The only positions where we could possibly do with some greater strength in depth are right wing and upfront but, again, we have enough strength in depth to cover by shuffling players around a bit and there is no point buying a League One lump to sit on the bench. If, for example, Lambert were to get injured then Guly and Barnard upfront will probably be a better option than Guly or Barnard and some other inferior lower-league version of Lambert or an ageing veteran.

If we can sign Guly, keep what we have and maybe add one more quality player or hot-prospect that will be a good window.

I don't believe we need any more new signing tbh, except Guly. We have a good/big enough squad to win promotion. What I would like to see is may be give the youth a chance. e.g. Joe Mills/ Gobern/ Martin/ Doble. All good players with exciting future. We have loads of money but it will be better to live within our means.

I don't know why so many are looking at has-beens and discards, thinking that they will be strengthening us. Saints are supposed to challenge for promotion to the PL next year at this time, so why should we believe that kind of lack of quality will get us there. If we look at our squad it lacks depth, since a large number of the players in it are unproven (goes for all the youth players) or not good enough (Forecast, Pulis, Wotton, etc.)

I would be very disappointed if new signings haven't got at least CCC experience, or even better. Sometimes I think that the club is more ambitious than some of the fans.

read somewhere today someone said leon best was at the match yesterday. my choice would be simon cox though

Leon Best is supposed to be signing for Nottingham Forest, strange that he was here yesterday when he's on the bench for Newcastle at Wigan today, can't see AP allowing that really.Unless of course AP (or one of his aides) was down here scouting and brought Best along for the ride, someone to light fags on the long drive.

Kilbane to Huddersfield was a good signing......this is the sort of player we should be getting in. I know he's getting on a bit but still plays for RoI regulary.

I don't know, Kilbane has always been a sh*te player and my opinion wouldn't change for us in league 1.

Simon Cox though, definately the forgotton man, i would love to have him here.

If and where possible we should be attempting to prepare a squad for next season in the CCC.

Hit the ground running with a fully integrated side,a gamble to do so now but one that could seriously assist with preperations and not leaving us standing still at the begining of the next campaign.

Promotion this season is not a certainty but we need to be forward thinking and take a punt on succeeding.

I'm sure the summer transfer market is where many will think we should do our business, and to a point i agree, but lets start the process now,if at all possible.

Cook had a bad knee injury and then the QPR medical staff ****ed up big style by allowing him to come back way too early. He had to have a second operation and now finally is ready to start playing games again. If I am honest I can't see QPR allowing him to join us unless we guarentee to give him games and they probably want him to come on a short term loan (just to get his match sharpness back) rather than till the end of the season as we need. I may be wrong and if I am then he would be a brilliant signing. He was one of the best championship players in his first spell at QPR earning his move to the Premiership. This could be a great opportunity to grab a real championship level star.

Leon best is **** though, he didn't do much to earn that move then did naff all for newcastle. Thought he was dire for us. Like a much better version of mcgoldrick.

Best has been injured this season, yesterday was his first game back (cruciate ligaments). I think its a touch unfair to say he has done naff all at Newcastle, really hasn't had much of a chance so far. Still he is probably only about 4th or 5th choice there now. Still wouldn't have him back, watched him yesterday and his body language is al wrong, gives the impression of being disinterested and lazy, too big for his boots. Shame, always rated him when he was with us, and was uinfairly castigated for his pen miss, when senior players/manager (joke, Burley's incompetence) should not have even allowed him to take a crucial pen in a shoot out.

Oh well,if it's a straight fight between us and Brighton then we don't stand a chance against the might of the Albion ;)

Yep i knew it was a pipe dream but you have to have asperations and delusions of grandeur.

Except that Poyet has excellent Spurs connections ...

Have it on good authority that Anthony Pilkington is one of the bids Adkins is talking about.

pilkington is hard to believe-he recently i.e. 10 days ago signed a new contract with the udders taking his contract with them to 2014.
