Not ITK but rumour has it that Charlie Austin is a done deal!!!!

An interesting one, possible as I'd guess he'll be trying to move from Swindon as they're bloody awful this season, but Swindon have money and they will not sell him for under £2m imo - so if we do get him, that's a serious statement of intent.

In 5 months time he may be a Championship player if he went to Saints now... ;)

In 5 months time he could be a Premiership player if the right move comes off for him.

Anyway, the reason I can't see it happening is that I can't really see us spending the amount of money needed on someone who isn't proven even at this level, and completely untried any higher.

Dont agree with that at all....30 goals 49 games for Swindon including 15 this season, 10 in the league. Completely untried higher up, true enough but then he was untried in the Football League (let alone L1) until last season and has done well. £1.5-2 mill would guarantee promotion. You could also argue that Lambert is completely untried at a higher level so will we need to replace him next season?!!

Austin would be great, LeFondre could good but slightly more risky as he'd have to make the jump from L2 to L1 to Championship in a matter of months. MaKail-Smith would be good ,already played in Championship but doubt he'll move now PBoro have sold MacClean!

was a handful in the recent game at SMS. Reminded me of the Bechio performance the season before. Lots of effort, never gave the CBs time to settle or an easy header.

When you come to think of it...We have a very good squad put together by the club.

Just needs a few of the squad to get fully fit and pull their fingers out and we could really do it..

Players coming in better than this squad will be hard to come by..

Over to you ..Our Nige....and of course Uncle Nic.

Agree. We shouldn't need anyone for a team to win this league, its getting this team performing regularly.

We already have enough strength in depth in all positions - with possible exception of wingers, depnding on what happens with Ox-C and Puncheon.

If everyone stays we will be hard pushed to improve squad in this window.

If Puncheon goes out, QPRs Lee Cook might be ideal to come in so long as his knee is now properly fixed. Top class player that could run teams ragged at this level. Warnock already said he is happy to let him go out on loan and its a shirt trip down the motorway.

it will be, but if we are serious and totally ruthless then we certainly shoukd be looking at a centre back, a wide player and a striker or two. Whether the funds are there I don't know.

I like to keep an eye on the Scottish leagues, there are a few players currently playing there who could be tempted to move to us.

Leigh Griffiths - Dundee

Dundee are financially in the sh!t, and he could be a steal as Dundee are desperate to offload some of their players for cash moves. Leigh is a pacy and skillful striker, much like a younger David Connolly (although he's not in the treatment room so often). He's only 19, so has lots of time to grow into a quality player and Adkins would be a good mentor, not to mention DC showing him a few tricks for a player such as himself.

David Templeton - Hearts

Has been tentatively linked to moves to higher-Championship and lower-Prem clubs, but he'd benefit more from a bit more time at a lower level before moving onto the big stage. He's a very pacy winger, very tricky. Highly rated by the staff at Hearts but they probably won't be able to keep him as his head will inevitably be turned by some wealthy suitors. Would be a very good investment because he has big potential.

David Wotherspoon - Hibernian

Young attacking midfielder, tipped as a future Scotland star but being played out of position (he's being played at right back). Could be tempted by the bright lights of the Premiership within a few years.

I'll say this again, from two very reliable sources, one that has played with Austin and one that has played against him on numerous occasions, the guy is reputedly a prize **** and a disruptive dressing room influence. Swindon's drop in form has been attributed to his team mates dislike of him and his "big I am" attitude. I have also heard similar from Swindon fans.

He is no doubt extremely talented and would score goals, but at what cost? Not sure signing him would make long term sense.

p.s. If we sign him, I will of course support him. 100%.

This does carry some weight

Cortese said (somewhere) that without all the ****ing about re Pardew, that "Charlie Austin should have been a Saints player ", or words to that effect

Cortese wasn't talking about signing Austin per se, just using him as an example to say that WE should be taking the pick of any local talent.

Id love the woodgate one... our facilities are top class, the football we play is good and him and fonte together could be the rock this promotion push is built on

Apparently 2 PL and 3 NPC teams have put loan offer in for him, I know QPR are one of the teams for a fact.

Not ITK but rumour has it that Charlie Austin is a done deal!!!!

Last I heard it was down between Celtic and QPR.

Probably down to him being their main man for the past couple of seasons. Would like to think that coming here he would be put in his place a bit and realise that he is replaceable.

Just been watching SKY's football league show. They've been rounding up the season so far for each of the 3 divisions. Peter Beagrie's top 3 players of league 1 were Austin, Chamberlain, and a lad called Dale Jennings of Tranmere.

Anyone mentioned him on here? Looks like a hell of player. Has pace to burn.

Craig Noone..... Plymouth ...winger either side.

Dale Jennings... Tranmere...winger/ striker

James Dunne... Exeter..midfield

Ryan Harley... Exeter...midfield

A couple of loan players from anywhere who can play striker/midfield if we can't get the above.

These are the boyzz....but we might be too late for some...

Up early to get to St Marys....

Happy New Year Badger...

Not fretting over Noone at all, as I don't know enough about him. Hope we can bring in a "missing link" as required.

Happy new year to you as well, Ottery.

Carlos Vela on loan. There was talk of Frimpong (from his own mouth) about Saints being a loan choice in August so why not? Would score bucket loads at this level but a long shot I admit as won't overly sharpen him for PL but would boost confidence

This, people are misreading that quote.

And what do you mean "without all the ****ing about re Pardew" Richmond?

IMHO, Pardew, since our Wembley Trip, showed less and less interest in Saints

His "disinterest" in strengthening the Squad for this season and the Krap pre season "training" which resulted in our useless start

Whether or not Cortese meant Austin as a "definite" is a moot point. What was meant, or inferred, was that Pardew had made little effort to GET anyone in

What is more certain, IMHO, is that Pardew knew for quite some time, that his future was elswhere, and, to me, it was obvious that his heart was no longer at St Marys

Only NOW, are we starting to reach the level that we should have been at at the START of the season, IMHO

I read somewhere that he'd probably go on loan in Spain, Zaragoza perhaps.Arsenal are probably looking to offload him in the summer and spain would be the ideal market. Won't make it at Arsenal anyway.

keeping current squad would be pretty good transfer window

This is a very good point. I look around at the teams around us, and there's no doubt, we have the most to talent to lose this January, compared to other clubs. If we can keep Lallana & Chambo at the end of January, I'll be delighted.

Sorry guys I think many of you are far too negative. If saints don't go up this season, we lose all our best players, lallana, Fonte, Chamberlain, Lambert etc. There is no way the club was bought to just hang around in this division...if you own a business you get the best people to work in there full stop. We have a financial advantage over our rivals so we must make it count.

Granted I don't think we need wholesale changes but if there is an opportunity to buy players better than our existing players we should do it...the best teams always build and we must do the same.

Chappers was a great start, Guly would be great if we could snare him also....then a possible upgrade at centre half and a winger come striker and we should be good, exciting times.....

Has anyone seen this: http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?191111-Scumhamton-fans-gutted-to-miss-out-on-Noone, didn't know we were gutted to miss out on him?

to be fair one or two on here clearly rated him therefore there will be a degree of dissapointment that our rivals have got him, but I don't think this is anything a 4-0 win today won't put right.
