January Transfer Window HCDAJFU

I note that the ever-unreliable Transfer Rumours site has tonight linked us with WBA striker Simon Cox (loan for season with a view to buy in summer) and Michael Duff from Burnley.

Cox would be very good, but duff....hope not, as a northern ireland fan ive never rated him, makes too many mistakes at the back and not good on the ball either

Personally, I would like to move away from the situation where Chambo starts every week. If a good winger is available then we should be interested IMO. Lallana can play right if it's a leftie. Mind you, now we have N'Guessan we effectively have two right wing options and three left wing options (if you include Dicko) so if he turns out good we should be ok. Would ideally like some serious competition for Lambert.

WBA have taken a striker on loan from Arsenal so moving a striker out may indeed be a consideration for them :

Great signing for them.

Cox on loan would be a damn good signing for us. I think in the season before last - Lambert, Beckford & Cox were far and away the best strikers in the league.

But they've already allowed Ishmael Miller & Chris Wood to leave, so I can't see it happening.

Heard rumblings about us getting a loan in from Man Utd - talks between the clubs today. My money is on Joshua King, a rapid forward who was on loan at Preston until Fergie Jr got sacked.

Sounds promising. Quick striker, who can play on the wing. A quick google image search also shows that he looks about 14 years old. Hopefully, we can sweet talk Utd into loaning us young talent, and then NOT sell them Chambo :)

Norwich were interested in Lee Barnard when we bought him and I think we were interest in Simeon Jackson over the summer so it could happen.

Maybe if they chuck Surman on loan into the deal as well - that's if he's close to playing again - it would make sense for us.

We desperately need some pace upfront which Jackson would give us and we could do with Surman to add some depth in midfield and it would give us someone who could pass the ball at the level ad Morgan and Chaplow.

Barnard certainly didn't look like he could make the step up yesterday - and he might be unavailable for a little while as well! Hopefully it was just an off day but maybe just maybe we should be looking for another striker.

Overall he's probably a better striker than Jackson but we need real pace and he might just be getting frustrated at not playing every game and not being first a first choice striker. Maybe he'd welcome a move to Norwich, up a division and a team on the edge of the Premietship. He might also fancy a move away from any off field issues in Southampton.

In the long run we are going to need to replace both Lambert and Barnard - yesterday convinced me of that if nothing else - if we are going to go all the way back to the premiership.

Am reluctantly starting at agree. We dont have anyone on target for a 20 goal season this year.

Was this ever in doubt? Do some people seriously think Lambert and Barnard would be a potent strike force in the Prem? They are decent players and could do fine in the Championship but if our ambitions are as stated (ie not just scrabbling about at the bottom of the Prem) then evidently we would sign better players. The only person I can think of who ever said Lambert was good enough for the Premier League was Pardew!

I thought Barnard looked like a player that hasn't played a lot - falling over his own feet, treading on the ball etc. - but at his best he is good at this level. Moving up a level he lacks the pace to really hurt centre backs. Tyson or suchlike would be good.

Frankly with only 24 hours to the door being slammed we're going to have to come to terms with the fact that whatever has been going on behind the scenes no bugger out there fancies coming here, probably because they've never heard of Adkins. Would it have been different if Pardew was still the name over the door? Just a thought but not one to be dismissed too easily

Did you miss the bit when Saints made 3 signings during this transfer window and tied a 4th to a long term contract?

He probably did miss it!

He probably doesn't realise:

1) not much wrong with this squad

2) most transfers are done on last day

3) we have made 3 signings

I'm starting to worry that they are not good enough for the Championship - and possibly not good enough to get us out of League 1 this season. We need a 20 goal striker - if not two - to get us automatic promotion this season.

The play-offs are a lottery at best - and when it comes to luck ours ran out a long long time ago! As it stands right now I am starting to worry about promotion this season. We are really suffering for not having the stability in management and team set-up that Huddersfield and Brighton have got - the momentum is with them at the moment.

If we don't make it up this season it will be a complete rebuild over the summer as we will lose Fonte, Morgan, Lallana and Chamberlain without a doubt. Lambert, Guly and Barnard as well probably.

Adkins is the right man for that - but it might take him another 2 or 3 seasons to build a team that is good enough to go up.

Brighton's top scorer has a mere 2 goals more than Lambert, yet to you call them struggling?. Barnard and Lambert have both shown they are more than capable of scoring over 20 (and in Lambert's case 30) goals in this league. Saints are one of the highest scoring teams this season and have the 2nd best defensive record.

Hamdi Salihi

30 goals in 41 games for Rapid Vienna.

Why would he come here?

Quite. Signed a three year contract last year with a top club in Austria. Scored 30 goals in 41 games. Rapid Vienna are going to be happy with him and he aint going to be thinking "must jack it all in and go to Lg3 in England".
