So to have him as cover makes no sense. Hammond, Schneiderlin, Chaplow and Gobern is more than adequate. MerceSaint28 Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 hmmmmm not worried yet as i trust Nicola but 2 undoubted targets in Manset and the boy from Exeter have gone to champ clubs. Does this say we dont have the pulling power we thought we did or did we not go for the said players??? Either way its clear we are targeting a couple of players and we cerainly need it as we cant afford a no promotion this season. If anything we have more than enough quality to escape this league and TBH anything less than promotion was last season a disaster this season a catastrophe. Replacements or better players should in essence pretty much garauntee it but then why are we any different then any other team ? I am over the moon with squad strength ATM, christ even Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal don't have ready made replacements in every position, the only teams that can concievably think that are Real Madrid and Citeh and look at the problems they cause their every now and again. Lets hope we can pull something out of the bag next week Actually for once we can afford not to get promoted - financially speaking. Of course it would a major disappointment etc. etc. but not the end of the world. This just proves we are so fortunate to have NC in charge (yes ML as well in the past, brought in by NC), who has backed NA fully (and AP until the end). I fully believe we have made a bold move for 2 to 3 players, but these level of players are much sort after (we are competing with most of the lower half of the PL never mind the rest), so it is not easy. I would much rather we hold out for a top player, than add "Mr. Average" to the squad and if it does not work out so be it. NC is trying hard and no other L1 club has the same support. Also importantly, I believe NC is "hooked" on SFC (as I was many years ago), hence his comment that he has several investors who would jump in if ML's family wanted out (which I don't for a minute believe they do). We will get there with NC ! We need to believe and support him

derry Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I personally think that a lot of the names mentioned are way off, as the club has said that they will only bring in players that will improve the team, which really rules out potential. We are hardly likely to sign young fourth division players. We are only going to sign proven players. Austin/Pilkington have proved their ability and it is players of their ilk and value that we will be looking for.

Are you telling me we are breaking even as I have hinted at several times, or are you saying we make a loss but thanks to ML (NOT NC) that debt is wiped out? - No debt - No monthly payments on a mortgage - 22k average crowds - 14k season ticket holders - If the club didn't go up this year then Lallana, Lambert, Fonte, Chamberlain, Schneiderlin at the very least would be sold, providing a large pot of cash to rebuild the team. Nicola Cortese, 8th December 2010 - "I don't think we can still not make it if we don't get promoted this season. If we have to change our plans, the plans are flexible enough" Oh by the way Sheff Wed has very similar support to us in L1. Saints have 3,093 more people on average per match so it is not really "that" similar. Edited 22 January, 2011 by Matthew Le God

Pretty sure Mandaric doesn't have more than the fund ML left behind, even if they are splashing the cash. Not worried about Wednesday anyway. We have enough points on them. It is well known that we are debt free (ML bought the club for around £12M, and settled all debts). You know the square route of **** all when it comes to our exact finances - just like me. You just talk as though you do, which is why I asked the question to see if you had some sort of inside track to the finances. You don't, so I suggest you wind your kneck in when making these apparent statements of fact. They are guesses nothing more. Having said that, if you'd care to read my post again you will see that I, along with one or two others have for a long time argued that we MIGHT be breaking even and are not reliant on ML money (usually on threads about how the world might end should NC leave) to clear any debt acrued at the end of a financial year (in the form of either a loan or a hand out). BTW don't post if you don't want others to read, examine, question, disagree and seak further detail.

Wouldn't be surprised if we were trying to bring Hughes in. Was thinking about this and Sheff Wed are the obvious candidates. With the Mandick takeover they have come into money and the chairman will have watched Hughes more than any other league 1 manger/scout that's for sure. He'll know his contract if he gave it to him and he certainly knows the man. Bournemouth might still be interested. Bradbury was at the skates at the same time as Hughes. ottery st mary Posted 23 January, 2011 Share Posted 23 January, 2011 (edited) Dan Gosling...20 year old Midfield Right or centre and can play Right full back... Formerly of Plymouth and then a free transfer at end of contract Everton to Newcastle United.. Returned from injury, needing games...and would be ideal for loan of one month or to the end of season.. Pards can have Punch in part exchange loan or permanent deal.... Sorry Punch Saints don't want you and you feel best your talent suited elsewhere.. But would Pards let Gosling go?..Highly rate this lad..not sure what injury was.... Liam Sercombe and James Dunne 20 year old midfielders at Exeter.....These lads are improving all the time... I would have said Harley definitely but alas off to Swansea.. Edited 23 January, 2011 by ottery st mary

To be honest it was always suggested a bigger club was interested and although this may be Sunderland.. Liverpool and Everton were very interested earlier this season...
