Agree with most and would not mind the players you mention but rather than Woolford I'd like to see us put £1.5m in front of Huddersfield for Pilkington.

 

Pilkington would cost double that, maybe even more. Hudds aren't mugs and they have a bit of cash behind them now. There are prem. teams scouting him as well, def. one of the best players in the lower leagues. Not the sort of signing we'd be able to make yet.

 

Someone like Harley, or even pugh at Bournemouth are def. reasonable targets for us. Wouldn't cost a fortune and are very good at this level.

When I heard of Adam's potential injury last night, the 1st two names I thought of were Harley & Pugh. Pugh's probably the most similar to Adam (Right footed on the left wing) - Doesn't Harley play central?

 

With that said, Woolford would probably be the next step up to sign in terms of quality (and asking price)

Because it is inevitable that three teams will be promoted each year and it is rare for three teams to have the same level of investment as us in this division.

its every time a player is our of form for a few games..or a player in injured for a bunch of games it seems we MUST sign players...despite having a huge league 1 squad...we MUST sign players

Sorry, didn't realise you were making that point. I agree, the squad is better than most.

well if you take last season, Leeds spent a wedge (after several years spending and failure similar to Forest before them), Norwich spent a wedge (mostly on wages) and Millwall got it together and came through the back door. Strikes me spending just increases your chance of going up, so if you have it why on earth would you leave it to chance that the side will `get it together'?

 

Personally I've doubted for a while that there is big bucks to spend so am not crying for signings, but if there is any money lets not hold back, if the quality is available to improve us get them in.

If we can sign Huddersfield players it doubly helps us by weakening a main rival for promotion. Of course, they'd be very reluctant to sell, but worth a bid just to unsettle things and see what happens.

 

I imagine we'll make some more bids late on in the window, it usually works that way.

 

IMHO, this is the "Acid Test"

 

With Lallanas injury, it was, or should have been, obvious to anyone that we are now severely lacking in the attacking midfielder department

 

Therefore, if Cortese is SERIOUS about the Five Year Plan, he should know pwefectly well that to keep us on track, a suitable replacement, short or long term MUST be brought in

 

That means MONEY, and if we soldier on with what we havn't got, then IMHO, that will show that the Leibherr Money Funding is just Pie in the Sky

Hopefully Tisdale would put in a good word about us if we bid and it's a decision between us and Brighton.

 

Seabourne might have a better feel for the club these days.

Completely agree - now is the time to act and get this guy in. With Wotton and Pulis away hopefully in the near future, our midfield options need to be bolstered and this is the guy to do it if we're only able to pick from this league. He stood out from the rest of his teammates and would do well with us and our style of play.

This thread should just be called 'HCDAJFU'. 18 days in to this month and nothing to report at all. Maybe a loan or 2 in feb?

 

we bought Chaplow, allbeit announced on the last day of December, but a transfer window move all the same.

Today. One day. If you judge it all from one day we'll be signing a ****load of players every few weeks. One game shows absolutely nothing, or should we have bought a new team after the pathetic home defeat to Brentford?

 

We either need to strengthen or we don't. That wouldn't be different if we'd beaten Notts County would it? Or would that have completely changed your opinion in one game?

 

My view has not altered all season that we need these players and the Notts County game proved Gobern is not ready that we need another winger and another striker if NA won't play Connelly.

 

We should only bring in players who will enhance our team and be able to play in the ccc.If we can't get them then we should use the loan system.

 

As I said in my article before you jumped down my throat this squad might get automatic promotion. I feel we need to strengthen to ensure the 5 year plan stays intact if the right players are available and want to join us

You don't rate him enough to know his name is George Boyd.

 

Tbf, there was quite a famous Tom Boyd playing professionally relatively recently (in the last 10/15 years at least!). Aside from Kris, how many other Boyds are there playing in the English leagues!?

Given that we're over halfway through January now, I imagine that the substantial bids NA talked of aren't going to come to fruition. Sounds like it's going to be a typical Saints transfer window: lots of anticipation, not a lot of actual activity, raised hopes as the deadline approaches and proceeding pretty much as we are in February.

I agree with you. But I reckon we might gets a couple of loans in come February. Probably young players with potential but not the finshed article, like Antonio when he came here. They will just start to come good for us then go back to their parent club so they can reap the reward of all our hard work with them ;)

The last week of the window will be interesting. Adkins has stated that we will see ''at least'' 2 more faces in the building and no one is leacing, as he puts it, before the close of the window.

when did he say that? Heard initial comment about substantial bids in, but if they don't come off not shopping around as squad good enough?

it was in one of his recent pree match or post match press conf's.

 

he def. mentioned about us looking to bring in 2 faces.
