I'm not sure you can play a 19 year old CB regularly in a promotion pushing side and the experience and strength of Fonte and Jaidi should rightly be used as the foundation of the defence. I'm sure he will be pushing for a place later in the season or next season.

I'm pretty sure he's 21. Jaidi always worries me when we're up against anyone with just a touch of pace. If he sticks to his game as a blocker and let's Fonte get on with the football then we're OK. Hopefully Martin doesn't get too disillusioned and looks for a move as I think he is one for the future and Jaidi can't last forever, certainly not in the CCC if we get there.

we've lifted him from non-league football about 5 minutes ago. Bloody hell, I should hope he is not disillusioned already.

It really depends on how he sees his career progression. there are players who just want to play regardless of the level, there are others who are just content to get paid every month and don't worry too much if they play or not. I am sure that certain of our players are concerned about lack of game time just now.I'd put Martin and Barnard at the top of the list.

I'm sure at 21 he wants to be playing football and as there is virtually no reserve football that leaves him as a professinal 'trainer'. I hope he stays around as he looks a decent player, he's shown enough potential that he could be playing for someone week in week out, whether that's with us or in a higher or lower league I don't know.

Not worth a new thread but Papa Waigo has left Fiorentina for a second division Italian club.. Grosetto

Hmm, so from crowds of 20k plus (and a few more at Wembley..) to crowds of 3-5,000... Ambitious, eh?

Beattie rumour..james beattie..??

I would like this

Can't believe Beattie is heading our way, but it would be a great signing to get him back again. I think the SMS faithful would love to see him back here too - everyone remembers his cupping ear salute to the Skates which drove them nuts! Personally I think there's more to the Priskin rumour myself and that would be a cracking signing, although probably a loan to buy deal until the end of the season I would imagine.

Extra thought - I don't think the Stock or Danns rumours are for real - if they were coming to us they would have done it by now, but I would be happy to be proven wrong in the case of Stock. I don't rate Danns that highly - no better than what we have here already.

It would appear to me that that there is something about Martin's game that Adkins and Crosby don't care for. Has he played once since they've been here ?? Lad must be really peeved, he was breaking through under the old regime and now he's been put to the back of the queue seemingly.

I have only seen him a couple of times but dont think he is a footballer just a defender who stops the opposition with little finisse

We havent even enquired about Stocky unfortunately! Shame as he is a die hard saints fan!

Agree with your last thought - they had their chance last January and we're now under a totally different regime manager wise, and they were both ''pardew'' targets. Personally i think Chappers adds that competition to our midfield we lacked, we're pretty strong there now.

Some numpty on football-rumours but you have to laugh

"Wayne bridge on loan to end of season

Also i heard spurs are going to loan 2 players one being crouch and the other being a midfield player not to sure part of the deal sees spurs getting chamberlaine in 2 season time my source is very reliable can't say who get them in to trouble whatch this space"

think if we sign someone it will be a decent championship player. Not one we particularly know or have been linked with (like Fonte was).

Not convinced Adkins will feel we need a forward unless particularly impressive one for future comes available

Walter Smith, Rangers maager is interested in signing Goodwillie from Dundee Utd( Forward), Has just said on Scottish TV that he would need to sell a couple of players first if the deals could be done. May be some legs in the Beattie rumour after all, especially as JB hasn't settled here in Scotland.

I'm not going to trawl through this thread but I think Alex Smithies would be a good long term replacement for KD, possibly looking at him in the summer more than now, but what do people think? He has more potential than Bart IMHO (but what do I know?)

From SouthamptonRumours.co.uk

Made me laugh.

Southampton are set to spend around 5 million to make sure they win the league

s.scannell 1million

n.danns 1million

r.chaplow 200,000

m.woolford 800,000

a.le fondre 1.4 million

c.lines 600,000

source: Matt Le Tiss (my uncle)

im dead for this!

I’m pretty confidant that Le Tiss no longer knows what’s going on behind the scenes at the club.

How about Andrew Davies at Stoke?

Was excellent for us, is proven at champ level and appears to be surplus to requirements at Stoke.

Fonte\Davies would be a coke level (and maybe better?) CH pairing.

Recently had a loan spell at Walsall in this division but got injured again, I believe he is on trial with Middlesbrough at the moment.

He's being tracked by Prem clubs so don't think it's a goer. FWIW I think Bart deserves to take over from KD when the time comes, he's waited long enough and i think he'll end up being a great servant for us

For the right money we could destroy Huddersfield signing Smithies, Pilkington and Rhodes.

Not going to happen though obviously. Not sure if they even need the money.

Would be amazing but no chance. That would cost the best part of £8 million!

FWIW Huddersfield chairman has said they won't be signing anyone this month unless they need an emergency loan.

MM has also said Sheffield Wednesday will be making at least six signings this month, they've already made two.

is Rhodes all that? He has quite a few goals this year, but he did not play in the last two games against us

hopefully fat boy Meller will be one of those remaining four. With Tudgay going out they will sign a striker so sure.

Sooooo, here we are then......end of Januray transfer window Week 1.....here's hoping the remaining few weeks are more interesting.....

Chaplow is a good result I think for the first week!

Converting loans into permies doesn't count (well, not when I'm making up the rules as I go along it doesn't)

Lots of loanees go back to a life of obscurity when they've done their stint with us, and surely the whole idea is much better than buying a pig in a poke - isn't it ?

We've seen Chaplow and now he's signed - so too with Guly . ALMOST everyone agrees that's a good deal I think?

Have we signed Guly then...didn't know that.

Yep. Very good deal(s). My post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek

Not sure if this has been posted before, but apparently the management have been taking Fonte's advice about a few players currently playing in the Portugese leagues and we've had scouts at a few games out there recently. Haven't heard any names though. Freddy Adu still plays out there I believe? ;)

Adam Birchall needs a second chance and at a club like us could finally reach the potential he showed a few years back.

I used to teach Adam, when he was 15/16 and on Arsenal's books. Not sure he is what we need.....

We desperately need some pace injected in to the team. The only real pace we have is Chamberlain and Puncheon (if he stays) at the moment. We also need another creative goalscoring midfield player and another striker in the Rickie mould. With this in mind, my suggestions are:

Pace - Kieron Cadogan (Palace), Martyn Woolford (S****horpe), Michail Antonio (Reading)

Creative goalscoring midfielder - Darren Ambrose (Palace), Neil Danns (Palace), Jonjo Shelvey (Liverpool - loan)

Rickie mould striker - Charlie Austin (Swindon), Nathan Tyson (Forest), Tamas Priskin (Ipswich)
