saintedwill Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 It is unfair that Hammond seems to have been singled out for yesterday's dismal performance but he is still an average League One midfielder and I think there are about 5 or six teams in this league where he wouldn't get into the first 11. If we're looking to win this league or get automatic promotion, then we need better players in CM like Chaplow as a start. Hammond is still a trier and won't give up, which is why he should be in the squad and a good impact player to help see games out, but maybe not as a starting player and subsequently not the captain
Andy_Porter Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 and how many times did Schneiderlin give the ball away yesterday? His passing was awful, often failing to even complete a 10 yard sideways pass and this is supposed to be his strenghth! I dont think Hammond is our best player, of course he isn't, but everytime we lose or play badly he is singled out and made the whipping boy, which is wrong. All 11 players were dog sh*t yesterday but Hammond was far from the worst. Agreed, Hammond had a decent enough game, there where far worse on the pitch yesterday. The only criticsim I have of Hammond is the same with Schneiderlin, neither do enough in both boxes. We need one of them to sit and the other attack and switch around during the game, as it is they both just sit and are far too happy to go sideways, we need a bit of dynamic play through the middle when playing 4-4-2.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 I think this just boils down to the fact that Schneiderlin and Hammond are just too similar and there is only room for one of them. If I had a choice I would go for Hammond because of his slightly better temperament but ideally I'd get rid off both. Hammond gives his all but is no more than Div 1 standard while S is an enigma all round. Looks elegant but that is it.

I did feel he was about the worst player yesterday - in a position where it shows.
georgeg Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 It's no coincidence that Hammond's upturn in form came when he was partnering Chaplow in midfield. Chaplow has reasonable pace which means Deano isn't required to be so mobile and allows him to play in the holding role to try to direct the play a little. With Morgan & Hammond' date=' we have two players who want to do the same thing and it doesn't work as well. Sometimes players just function better alongside certain players - Beattie and Ormerod were a prime example.[/quote'] good shout .. put Dean and Morgan together .. well they are so ineffective its not true .. and thats not drawing attention to just them but the midfield position is so important to the functioning of the team as a whole .. Seabourne works far better with Jose doesnt he? as for our "work" rate .. well apart from Alex and Adam where the f**k was that??!!
Super_Uwe Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 What always makes me laugh on here is when we lose (in a pathetic manner yesterday I'll admit), there's always calls to get rid of player X or Y for being utter s****. If we were ever to employ this zero tolerance strategy for poor performances, I doubt we'd even have a football club left to support as no f***** would want to play for us.
Chez Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 I thought Butterfield was appauling yesterday. Miles worse than Hammond. Miles. The throw in at the end straight to their striker...that was Butterfield and was just one small part of a terrible terrible overall showing. But you're not supposed to slate Butterfield though are you? Hammond is a much easier target. Why do fans not judge each player on each individual game rather than prejudging them based on other showings?
NickG Posted 12 December, 2010 Posted 12 December, 2010 don't think it was a game for scape goats as no-one played well, causing pressure for each other and little time on the ball or options. I have nothing against Hammond, not just looking at him as a easy target or wanting him out - just honestly thought he was appalling yesterday - started getting frustrated with him so noticed more and more him getting caught in possession or letting his man drift by him. Hopefully he will be better next game.
georgeweahscousin Posted 13 December, 2010 Posted 13 December, 2010 Another game that completely passed him by in my opinion. He is better with Chaplow though.
broncoboy Posted 13 December, 2010 Posted 13 December, 2010 Hammond looks overweight. Maybe his donkey pace would pick up if he was carrying less timber. Guly with his new haircut is still just a big girl. "Man up Guly" Rickie should be dropped if there was anybody to replace him We must be spending a fortune refrigerating the Kingsland

Did you catch Hammond's free kick in the first half that he batted right to one of their players just outside our box? Fortunately the ref saved us as the ball was moving when he kicked it. After sitting through the second half display, I can see it was just an amusing prelude...
Saint_clark Posted 13 December, 2010 Posted 13 December, 2010 Yes it was a poor game, but he has been very good so far this season. People seem to forget or ignore the forward runs, especially down the wing, that he makes. Who would you rather play?
St_Tel49 Posted 13 December, 2010 Posted 13 December, 2010 So you so gallantly defend one of our players even though he's ****......I applaud you. H'mm - the sum total of your analysis is "he is **** because I say he is!". I should apply to be on Match of the Day if I were you.

Tbf, i thought he was one of our better players last season (not jumping through hoops about him though), but this season he's been a pile of cack imo....don't watch premier league footy or MOTD btw

captainchris Posted 20 December, 2010 Posted 20 December, 2010 The team was very poor yesterday. Should that be levelled at one man? No. But Hammond is the Captain and should perhaps shoulder a little more of the blame for not getting his troops sorted. Having said that, he could not affect the rubbish defending and goalkeeping that cost us two goals. He could not affect the 3-4 world class saves their goalkeeper pulled off (not to mention the manner in which he commanded his box). I suspect he hasn't got the balls to rip into Lambert for being a lardy-arsed load of rubbish with no apparent team ethic whatsoever. We need a new striker urgently in January as from what I've heard Barnard will not be around for a while. I've said it before, Schniederlin and Hammond do not work well together and Chaplow is a better partner in CM who makes either of the other two look better. If I were to select one of them to keep it would be Hammond because I don't feel Schneiderlin is the type of player to get us out of L1. Whether he's good enough to make a better stab at it in a higher league is debatable - personally I think he would do better in a French team where he has more time on the ball - but he's not the player we need now. We need Chaplow fit and we need a good backup option too. Schneiderlin is very very poor - tired of saying it - not good enough apsolutely not good enough would be better off with Goburn or a another youngster in there until Chaplow is back - Morgan is now carried every game - Hammond is twice the player and Chaplow five times the player!
harvey Posted 27 December, 2010 Author Posted 27 December, 2010 It seems you dont watch much football and are about 16 as you obviously dont have a clue what you are talking about. I was '18' a few posts ago Turkish, now i'm '16' apparently........get a grip Turkish
Turkish Posted 28 December, 2010 Posted 28 December, 2010 I was '18' a few posts ago Turkish, now i'm '16' apparently........get a grip Turkish i said about Harvey, either way you are clearly a clueless arrogant kid with no idea about football. So come on then, was Hammond sh*t today as well?
