Dinner with Nicola Cortese

Spudders

whenever I see a Window Cleaner post I decide to ignore it as they are all so depressing and anti-Saints, it's unreal. I'm pretty sure that the "Wow factor" thing was only mentioned by some agent on twitter. I remember that the agent was saying "you'll love Cortese for this appointment, he's a clever man.. Etc etc" - I'm pretty sure that's an opinion, so if you decided to take his opinion as the gospel then that's your problem, it's not like Cortese said "I promise I will appoint a manager with the wow factor".... ffs this place gets annoying.

So the roughly £5m spent on footballing staff since the takeover has passed you by? That is a huge amount for a 3rd tier club to spend considering it doesn't have the revenue streams of a Premier League or Championship side.

You really think the club has no money? Did you not notice the multi million pound upgrade plans for the training ground announced after Liebherr's death and the constant hints of squad investment by Adkins and Cortese.

Out of interest how do you make up the £5 million??

Just asking cos i don't see it as any where much higher than 3.5 and then we sold Rasiak for a wee bit and had a good old clear-out last summer.,

How do you make up £3.5m?

Have you included loan fees for Papa Waigo and Guly? Players like that don't come here for free.

Have you included agents fees for every signing?

Have you included sigining on fees for every signing? Including free transfers of Harding, Jaidi, Connolly, new contract for Davis, Butterfield, Dean, Martin

Have you included the compensation package for Adkins and Crosby?

Have you included the transfer fees for Lambert, Fonte, Seaborne, Richardson, Dickson, Hammond, Barnard, Puncheon?

how do you mean? we needed it but 13 in one go with 2 replacements is quite a drastic slashing of playing staff.

Still don't get the £5 million though. We made a shedload last year, doubt if we lost any money at all on the match/cost basis.

no matter what we got in...they still put £5m or so back into investing of players...something which does not happen out side of parachute receipiant clubs..

just look at brizzle rovers..we gave them £1m for lambert...they spent diddly squat in return

I still reckon £5 million is well on the high side though, 401k in agents fees is a mighty big wack though. They obviously made us pay through the nose.

Even at £3.5m it is a huge figure for a League One side. (I still don't think you have taken into account all the factors I listed and the figure would be closer to £5m)

The training ground development would also be costing a lot. Stoke used the same architect firm and their development is far less extensive and cost them over £5m.

mike wilde was a football man...drank with the fans and everything

Couldn't say.Thought he was well intentioned enough but got into too many problem areas to secure the majority he needed.

What I'd like to see is a chairman/CEO who is content to just run the club and let the manager do everything connected with football.

A sort of Hill-Wood/Wenger relationship because wherever there is too much interaction the roles get confused.

Ok, it might be nearer £4 Million. That is still an obsene amount for a club in the 3rd tier! We would have spent more in the summer, Cortese confirmed that much, but the transfers didn't happen for one reason or another. He has said from now on they will only bring in players who can not only help us here, but also help us to challenge getting promoted from The Championship.

I find your p*ssing and moaning, despite the facts we are owned by Billionairre's and we are investing heavily in our already fantastic Training facilities laughable. Add to that, that the guys at the top of our club actually want to take us not only to the Premier League, but they want us to Challenge FOR it. THEY WANT US TO WIN THE F*****G THING! Yet STILL, you knit-pick every little piece of b*ll*cks you can! You and 'sadoldgit' must lead very bitter lives. Granted, we are in the 3rd tier of English Football and it sucks d*ck. But FFS we are not just talking about progressing a little bit, this fella wants to give us a club we really could be damn f*****g proud of. Stop the constant gobble. It's boring. He has done a few little things that have p*ssed me off, but for what he has brought to my club, meh... f**k it, i'll forgive him for taking away my Installment plan.

already fantastic Training facilities

They are far from fantastic at the moment. I would say they are okay training facilities relative to the clubs ambitions of being a top half Premier League team again. The club has been overtaken by a large number of teams (Premier League and Championship) in terms of training facilities in the last 7 years due to lack of investment keeping Saints up to date. Hence why they are going ahead with this development, as major improvement was required.

You are nearer the mark than many on here ....

NC wanted Pardew out long before pre season training...

Pardew is a very good manager /coach regardless of what is spouted by our Adkins fans on this forum.

We now have our Nigel in charge and I really hope and pray we get going with some more needed points over xmas and new year..

Makes me laugh about the comments above re Pardew and his lack of expansive game and being without any idea.

The chosen few on here spouted that NA would be playing exciting open wide flowing football like he was supposed to have done

at Scunny...Laughable..

But let us live in hope he gets up there in the play offs at least or he can collect his cards..

Merry xmas one and all.

I Totally agree with you OSM Merry Christmas

I was expecting us to be higher than 10th at Christmas I must admit but we need to put a winning sequence together ASAP otherwise we maybe in the Play Off Lottery

Last season was Very Good JPT winners a good cup run and a team which looked as though Promotion was likely this season but the Cortese/Pardew feud seems to have buggered that

And some of them still beat us.................whoops I'm not supposed to say that am I !!!

You can say that. Nobody has a problem with that. But it would usually look something like this;

And some of them still beat us................. I bet Cortese bungs the game's because he is a C*nt.

Which is why there is a problem...

So, back to the varying ways of training people subject.

Here's what happened to the weedy wimpy cricketer that Ian Bell used to be...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/theashes/8217527/The-Ashes-2010-Englands-cagefighter-Ian-Bell-shows-Australia-ruthless-streak.html

Hmmm

So, looking at our squad perhaps it is time to send some of our lot up to Brum. Morgan would get my vote if it was only one player, No way LB needs to go Cage Fighting

AP made Morgan pump a lot of iron last year, Morgan was OK with it according to people round his home town, perhaps he doesn't have to do it now though

There has been a lot of talk about the pre season but for me the most telling reason for the poor start was the lack of competitive match preparation. The teams that appear to always start well play a few lesser quality teams often two on the same night with mixed teams, then the first team comes together and play competitive games against equal or better sides, working on match fitness and teamwork etc. We on the other hand played the two best and already match fit teams before we had hardly done any fitness work, then a hotchpotch of poor quality opposition with a final game against Reading. All the games were a mixture of first team and development players playing together with none of the first teamers playing a full game and some not even playing. The first team didn't play as a unit until the first league game which was also the first full match that any of the first team played. This preparation didn't allow the teamwork of the first team to be bedded in and to hone the match fitness which was missing.

A reasonable point. In the first game against Thun, which I saw, we didn't look in the races and anybody who has played footie at any level knows that if you are chasing the game often it all falls apart. The losses were hardly surprising as they had already started competitive games and their league started the following week, but we never seemed to properly get it together after that.

Hi Sue. What i found odd about preseason was Pardew said he had deliberately set it up like that, so we played tough first so the players realised the situation we were in, i guess by that he meant despite the tag of favourites tag we are still not a great side, then playing the easier games later on. I've never heard of this before, all other preseaons have been start with a few games just to blow out the cobwebs, bit of fitness with them slowly getting tougher.

Preseason was all the wrong way round anyway,I guess Markus absolutely wanted us to be in Switzerland and all that and as their season (and the French season) starts before ours we were obviously going to play sides further advanced in their preparation than we were.I mean I don't think it was AP who insisted that we spend 10 days or whatever it was in Switzerland...or was it.

Lympstone Marine Barracks would have been far more suitable than Swiss land......AP was shafted..

Season greetings to you Uncle John..

Points now and over these next four/five games are very crucial....Lets hope Nigel and the team are up to it..

January sales w/aquisitions will also be crucial to our points during Jan and thereafter...

All this coaching rubbish..he is better than him or he didn't get us fit or he trained us the wrong way..

I might even turn into a Lowe luvvie if this carries on....
