Surely Wilde, Crouch and Lowe have had their day? So who else is there? Fulthorpe, Pinnacle, Help Me Rhonda? Help me God. I think he was talking more about ex-employees. People like leftback.

Could it be 'forces' from other club(s) who don't want to see Saints accelerate through the leagues? Jealous of our financial clout? Cortese also alludes to people perhaps trying to scupper a big sponsorship deal. Perhaps one of the potential sponsor's commercial rivals are trying to derail those negotiations. All highly unlikely I guess but intriguing all the same...

He says something along the lines of the fact that there were always people attached to the clubs throughout the years and stayed attached, drawing salaries etc and when the 'swiss group' came in they were annoyed and made life difficult for them to take over the club. He said they attempted to come back into the club and draw money again but he would not allow anyone in the club that is not adding anything to it. He said they often appear and start spreading rumours every now and again and believes that this rumour was held until now to try and destabilize them at this time when they are looking to complete contracts with sponsors etc. I think. Who could that be ?

Obviously he is mightily ****ed off by the 'for sale' rumour which is why he broke 'radio silence' for the first time. Very positive and encouraging. Job well done in my opinion. God knows what will happen if promotion doesn't happen!

It could be him, i did hear rumours it was his son involved in one of the takeovers or bringing someone to the table so that could add weight, plus whenever Lawrie writes or talks about NC it is hardly a glowing reference. I doubt we will ever know, TBH i don't even care too much, as long as my beloved Southampton keeps being strengthened and remains financially secure.

No, it is not us lot on here and no it isn't former legends, it (IMHO) is just some people who to me seem to have a stroke of malice inside them. Former Hull City chairman Paul Duffen (linked with a takeover down the road) was recently shouting his mouth off to anyone in the game prepared to listen that Southampton would be the next club in crisis. He was telling everyone this at the time he was trying to put together a bid to buy p****y.

Chez Posted 8 December, 2010 Posted 8 December, 2010 Cracking interview - liking the comparisons to Barca. anyone can name drop, but the fact of the matter is keeping a group of brilliant youngsters at the club through the large part of their careers a la Manure and now Barca is pretty much impossible for anyone other than Manure and Barca. So to me it just sounds like hot air. Maybe I'm just a cynic, but its easy to say these things, much harder to see them through. Look at Boro and how they had to sell players. Villa appear to the latest side to lead the way in youth development, I wonder how long before their stars get cherry picked? You can't break even AND keep real talent at the club. In the end their heads are turned and then you either pay them Prem wages whilst we are in the lower division to keep (meaning costs go through the roof) or you sell them to ensure you don't have unhappy players at the club.

Anyone notice the only poor piece of body language from Nicola is when he rubs his nose (touching your face is a sign you are being economical with the truth) when he says he doesnt know where the rumours come from. He knows perfectly well and there are plenty of clues in the interview.

From what I see he is everything we would want in chairman but people are afraid to give him the respect he deserves invade he hurts them like Lowe did.. Let this interview be a new leaf. Further, the very players who have come 'through their ranks' have only come to Barcelona because they are Barcelona! They have scoured the globe and at enormous expense have moved the best young talent in the world to the Nou Camp. It worries me when bankers believe that success can be created from the youth ranks at a club which does not yet have the platform for financial surety that is required to KEEP talent. If we produce Fabregas this season he will be GONE by May. This was Rupert Lowe's failed plan. And now the world will pretend that this time around with 'this' banker, it's different and the plan can succeed. Why? All those who slated Lowe tell me why this time it's different? We will still be a selling club. Not because we will need to be but because we will either be made offers we cannot refuse or the players will go to Arsenal or Barcelona...
