Dalek2003 Posted 11 December, 2010 Share Posted 11 December, 2010 Mike Ashley's checklist for then new manager........ Actually that looks like the one that was used by Saints in 2004 to appoint Sturrock.
brmbrm Posted 11 December, 2010 Share Posted 11 December, 2010 Myth... complete and utter myth, peddled on here by people with an agenda against Pardew. Quite frankly I find it offensive to have one of my best days as a Saints fan written off as tin pot....[/QUOTE] Sorry you feel like that, (I went and had a good day too ) But, like you, the reality of THIS season is that we had 46 Matches STILL in Division One ahead of us Are you really saying you would rather have gone to Wembley than have got a few more points in the LEAGUE Matches to get us PROMOTED through the Play Offs ?? Cortese's Priority was the LEAGUE, as was publicly well known, even to Pardew But Pardew was hell bent on the JPT Wrong move IMHO, because I would rather be in the CCC right now I find it totally bizarre that people, like you, StRichmond, think that it is an either/or: either you win the "tin pot" trophy or you get 3/6/9 (come on, make up your mind; excatly how many points extra do you get if you don't win the"tin-pot" trophy???? How many for geeting knocked out in the first round? Second round, etc?) points extra in the league. You have been fed siht cliches in the media and you blindly gobble it up. Oh, "good cup run" or "push in the league" when statistically there is NO CORRELATION, DUH? So maybe tell us this rule that you either get to win a cup or you do BETTER in the league. Of course there isn't one.

The whole belief that getting to the final stopped us going up is complete ********. It's more to do with **** performances at places like Wycombe and Exeter, not to forget our poor start to the season.

Doctoroncall Posted 11 December, 2010 Share Posted 11 December, 2010 A major competition. Happy to clarify. What is a major competition and perhaps you can clarify what big club means. I don't really get your point as what expectation is there for the evertons, villas and boltons?
Super_Uwe Posted 11 December, 2010 Share Posted 11 December, 2010 Pardew is a brave man. He simply has to hit the ground running - that is the only way he will be able to get through this IMO. If you've ever been to St. James' Park you'll know that Newcastle are a massive club, albeit a pathetically unsuccessful one. I never believed the hype until I actually went there - if they could somehow manage to win something it's the sort of place where there would be pandemonium. I think that's a massive pull for any manager even if the reality is that it's a bloody hard task.

CB Fry Posted 11 December, 2010 Share Posted 11 December, 2010 A major competition. Happy to clarify. That's funny. Chris Hughton winning a league is sneered at by you in your usual condesending way, but you lecture us for years about Burley hamfistedly scraping into sixth in the same league like it was the greatest achievement in football history. What an utter plank you are.

I am meerly pointing out that Newcastle have not won a major competion for decades. In what Universe does the Championship constitue a major competion??? And I am the plank. I don't really get your point as what expectation is there for the evertons, villas and boltons? A major competition is the Champions league, Premier League, FA Cup. I don't think promotion from League 2 is. Do you? As for a big club. It is one that wins lots of major competitions isn't it??? How many have Newcastle won in the last 3 or 4 decades? Because finishing sixth in that league was the miracle of St George according to you. But winning it is a trifling nothing now when you're sneering at another manager. But double standards are pretty common in your world as we've all seen. The Championship is the fifth biggest league in Europe by the way.

The Championship is the fifth biggest league in Europe by the way. LOL are you serious? A miracle finishing 6th in the CCC? When did I ever say that. I said that his aim was to make the play offs and he achieved that. We would probably have gone up too but for a couple of individual errors by players. I never sneered at Burley. I never sneered at Pardew (who you seem to support too). I am not sneering at Adkins. I did not sneer at Hughton. I simply pointed out, as I will again, that Newcastle United have not won a major competition for decades. If you want to add the CCC as a major comeption that is down to you. Personally I don't. 5th biggest league says it all. Surely major means biggest? I was say 5th was minor. If you want to make an arguement out of that little lot you are now on your own mate. The Championship is the fifth biggest league in Europe by the way. Based on what? (Purely out of interest) While myself and SOG couldn't disagree on certain issues more I think he has got a point about Newcastle. Even competing in the Championship last season should have been a massive wake up call for the Newcastle fans. I think Hughton being sacked is one of the most farcical sackings yet. Whilst he had the best squad on paper in the Championship by a distance, for a caretaker manager to win the Championship with that dominance, whilst keeping big egos playing below their level focused, and then getting them to a relative mid table position in the PL was a fantastic achievement. Besides Hughton isn't the only one, I thought Roeder did a very good job a few years ago, maintaining a mid table position when the number of injured players in the squad was rarely in single figures the whole season. Yet he was forced out. Newcastle have been in decline for a long time and a lot of their fans don't see it, even with the relegation coming as a warning. I'd rate their fans as amongst the most deluded in the country. We went through two separate instalments of the "The Messiah has returned" routine with the fans during 2008-2009 and the club still ended up going down. As for Pards taking over there, good luck to him. Sadly though I doubt he'll do barely any better than Hughton. He'll keep them in the PL, hoofing to Andy Carroll will see to that but their a million miles away from achieving anything other than that
