ottery st mary Posted 8 December, 2010 Share Posted 8 December, 2010 absolutely spot on. So much rewriting of history. Fans completely overlook the fact he brought in the players that we are regard highly and steared us clear of trouble and then on almost towards the play offs. Yes the money makes the big difference, but Fonte still needed to be persudaded and Pardew had the ability to do that. Yes also we didn't play well in some games, but there weren't too many of those once we got going. His substitutions were almost always spot on. The idea that he didn't have a plan B is ********. He changed games on a regular basis. Leyton Orient away is a prime example. I don't agree with some that we were too narrow or we played a long ball game. We had genuine wide men that cut inside a fair bit and we have a big target man up front, but IMO we mixed it up a lot, passing it wide, long down the middle and everything in between. That is what made us hard to play against, we had all facits of the game in our locker. It matters not, as he has gone and we are relatively happy with Adkins. I have no idea why Ahhsley has replaced Houghton with Pardew, but Pardew can do a job there make no mistake. Best of luck to him. Our footbal experts on here make it up as they go along...some even had a personal axe to grind through their associates. What you have stated is true and what most sensible supporters would say about Pardew and his time at Saints. Anyway down to our Nigel and the promotion out of this league. ottery st mary Posted 8 December, 2010 Share Posted 8 December, 2010 (edited) Still can't see why he'd get the job though. I think most would say the same....Especially if I was a Newcastle supporter.. But their ongoing problem follows many years of poor decisions....Luck may come into play but it helps they have chosen an experienced manager this time. At least he did us proud. Personally I would have gone Wotte or Portaloo and their mentor Big Rupert. Saint 76er Posted 8 December, 2010 Share Posted 8 December, 2010 Thought Pardew wasn't comfortable anywhere north of Watford. Most people on here were underwhelmed at AP joining a L1 club so can only guess at the Geordies reaction. Dosn't matter though as he won't understand a word they say or vise versa. All the Geordies want is one of their own not some bloke from, what is to them, a foreign land and who appears to have got the job as he is mates with the owner. However, on more concerning matters I don't think it likely we will sell anyone to Newcastle as can you imagine AP ringing up NC and, say, asking to buy Lallana. Considering the state of their relationship I suspect Mr C may just tell him to F off ...
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 December, 2010 Share Posted 8 December, 2010 If i was a Newcastle fan i would be going mental right now. Now, it is pretty clear i don't like Pardew (never have BTW even before saints) but even if it can be argued he did an ok job at Saints, and thats all he did in reality, didn't excel he did the least possible to make everyone happy (those that think we could have been serious relegation contenders are sadly deluded). But even then, why would you replace a manager who has the full respect and backing of staff/players/fans, that got them promoted and looking quite good at 11th in the table for a manager who has never really done that much in his managerial career and has already failed at the top level ?? Add the that constant rumours of disharmony that follows him around and it seems madness. I bet Newcastle will be in serious trouble come the end of the year, certainly in the bottom 5/6 IMO. I kinda of agree with some of that he will be on a hiding to nothing up there as the fans and players already look upset before he has even started. Then again if he comes in and wins a few games maybe the fans will change their minds and start going on about how Houghton had no plan B, played long ball stuff and was a bit of a c unt really. who knows? Lol I am not sure me and you will ever agree on Pardew. And as i said, i am not going to hide any agendas, i have heard things both before and after his Saints appointment and IMO he is just not a very nice, egotistical little man. But putting personal agendas aside i have to say that he was very much a long ball merchant, his teams did look very narrow and IMO he struggled to change things when it started to go wrong both in matches and over the course of the season. He did ok with us, he should IMO have achieved the playoffs but he didn't get us firing quite quick enough and then failed to keep us consitent towards the end, lets be realistic, with the money spent we should have been right up there and we were never going to be relegated however came in. He may do well at Newcastle, but i can't see it, he is going into a bad situation from the off and has never been good when the going gets tough. saint lard Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 (edited) Whatever others may think i beleive Pardew did a bloody fine job here. He was a major cog in the wheel that gave me one of the most enjoyable sesons in many a year. I felt we were full of belief, determination and had a bright future under his stewardship. I would be surprised if many at Wembley had much to mank about him.coupled with a fairly strong push into the playoffs in which we narrowly missed out upon despite the points penalty. Mistakes were made, but no different many others managers make throughout a season. And no doubt those similar mistakes will be made by any subsequent manager, infact i beleive some have been made thus far this season. We are hardly setting the world on fire with the new exciting style of play....are we? I wish him well at Newcastle, unfortunately he has got an immense job to win over the fans before he even started, something i don't think he had to do when he arrivied here, well not in the same capacity. alpine_saint Posted 9 December, 2010 Share Posted 9 December, 2010 5.5 years ? Jammy bastard (unless there are some interesting clauses inserted). Pardew underachieved, just like Burley before him, considering the huge resources put at his disposal. A tin pot trophy is scant reward for being in the top 5 spenders in England last year (or whatever the figure is...) And some of the performances, such as Wycombe away, were a complete f**king disgrace. And now it seems he crocked this season over the summer. F**k him, Toon and Pardew deserve each other.
