Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 pretty harsh on pompey... now I have to hate the OX..seeing as he is a skate (joke)
paris Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Makes me proud to be a Saints fan reading this ,we've got one of the best acadamy's in England proberbly the UK .......
Colinjb Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Those two articles say a great deal. Make you proud to be a Saints fan.
dronskisaint Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Oh dear me how sad , what a shame - never mind!
ecuk268 Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 'His parents are Pompey season-ticket holders and intelligent people." Isn't that what's known as an oxymoron?
Matthew Le God Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 No-one picked up on the last part of the first article... Chamberlain said: 'I always thought Alexander would do well. 'Now they are in the third division it has opened the door to the first team for him and he is exciting to watch. 'There are clubs interested in him, we'll just have to see what happens.'
Dig Dig Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 No-one picked up on the last part of the first article... Bye Bye Ox. Prob next summer I would imagine
Matthew Le God Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Sorry but who the **** is Andy Awford? He played over 300 games for Pompey.
sfc4prem Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Oxlade will defo be off. He's too much of a prospect to be sitting in L1.
Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 so...its (probably) promotion or bye bye to lallana, OxO, Fonte and lambert oh well
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 reading those artciles does beg the question: if your son was offered an academy sport by both Saints and Pompey, and the roles were reversed in that they are by far the superior set-up, who would you plump for? Me? I'd send my kid to whoever gave the best chance of becoming a top player, so would let him go to Pompey. Plenty on the News articles would put their rivalry before the kids' interests.
Give it to Ron Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Chamberlain's dad being a Pompey fan isn't exactly going to work in our favour. I'd imagine like Lallana, it's promotion or they're off, and understandably. Likewise, it'll probably be the same situation in the Championship, as neither will want to hang around there for long. I want to see both in the Premiership with us, that's the **** thing about being in League 1. Not that much of a fan that he used to work as an academy coach at Staplewood
Andy_Porter Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 so...its (probably) promotion or bye bye to lallana, OxO, Fonte and lambert oh well You can't blame them for leaving if we fail to get promoted.
positivepete Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Quote from David Furst in the second article: "I remember watching him (OXO) at the Hampshire Schools' under-14s trials at Winchester College. He was the best player on the park by a mile. 'Yet he didn't get close to Hampshire Schools mainly because of his size." That is why the government are right to cut funding for school sports, well for football anyway. Teachers are not interested, and the Schools FA is way behind the times in football coaching
MarkSFC Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Serves them right. They choseto spend their money (well someone's!) on so called elite players in order to "buy success". Their choice and now they still have a sh*t tip of a ground and no training facilities of their own. We are fortunate that whoever has been in charge of our club regardless of their performance have always realised the importance of the infrastructure and The Academy. Possibly we only lost out on Anderton but at 15/16 he did not stand out amongst his peers. I know because my brothers his year group. At that time he was not good enough for us because the standard was very high. Without foundations in facilities and youth development no club deserves success.
Rebel Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 I can't believe that no one has noticed that Pompey tried to poach at least two players from our Academy - and probably more than that - bit like they poached Cranie. I know of at least one season ticket holder at Saints whose son plays in Pompey's youth academy but is a Saints fan who attends games and wears the shirt! He's desperate to switch to Saints though!
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Quote from David Furst in the second article: "I remember watching him (OXO) at the Hampshire Schools' under-14s trials at Winchester College. That is why the government are right to cut funding for school sports, well for football anyway. Teachers are not interested, and the Schools FA is way behind the times in football coaching To be fair funding for sport in schools isn't intended to diredctly boost the prospects of a tiny handful of talented footballing youngsters and I doubt it has anything to do at all with county youth teams, they've been around for years.
Torres Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 The Blues' former youth recruitment officer brought through the likes of Darren Anderton, Andy Awford, Asmir Begovic, Marc Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Joel Ward during his long Fratton Park stay. What a stellar line-up.
NickG Posted 7 December, 2010 Posted 7 December, 2010 love the fact that although Chamberlain was working for youth set up with skates he told Hart that Alex was better staying with saints and they couldn't have him
rolosfc Posted 7 December, 2010 Posted 7 December, 2010 Have to keep an eye out for that Ward-Prose, I love the fact our academy makes a mockery of the skates.
lordswoodsaints Posted 8 December, 2010 Posted 8 December, 2010 Money and the desire to play at the highest level will always outweigh loyalty. Whatever is being said in public will be the complete opposite to what is being said to the boy behind closed doors.....he will be off at the drop of a hat and who could blame him.
NY Saint Posted 9 December, 2010 Posted 9 December, 2010 Have a read of the comments section of the article about Ox and the P*mpey fans talking about how they would send their offspring to Saints academy, and then have a listen to or read Cortese's comments about developing our training facilities further. If it makes me a gullible to believe all the NC stuff that's coming out at the moment I'm not that bothered as I quite like this positive feeling of optimism. Its been a few years since I heard anything about Crewe and their amazing success of bringing through players, and wondered what their actual facilities are like or if its down to quality coaching... Found this link to an article that references the top youth training academies we're not listed but NC's vision is that we will be. Not sure whether I should s****** or maintain a healthy level of skepticism over the last ambition.
