Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Would be funny if Lowe and his gang did a whip round at the conservative club and bought us
Stepgar Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Would be funny if Lowe and his gang did a whip round at the conservative club and bought us No it ****ing wouldn't. !!
georgeweahscousin Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 This is not good news! It's in the Sun, so not necessarily news at all. What does the article actually say?
forever a red and white Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Unlikley after submitting new plans for a training ground.
hypochondriac Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Unlikley after submitting new plans for a training ground. Not really. For Cortese it would be business as usual, he has no influence on what the family decides.
hypochondriac Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Perhaps leftback was right with the Court case stuff?
Master Bates Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Perhaps leftback was right with the Court case stuff? What's this court case stuff? what have I missed please?

Badger Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 It's in the Sun, so not necessarily news at all. What does the article actually say? Lets not forget that before the appointment of Adkins,NC is meant to have had a meeting with The Sun to improve relationships with them. So whilst still an unreliable daily rag,the paper has had a thawing of relationship with the club, and may be a little closer to hearing a whisper than before. Personally, just hope it is not true.

Ken Tone Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 saints up for sale, according to the sun today Got a link or a quote? Can't see anything in the web version.
Badger Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Depends who we sell to IMO. How is Paul Allen these days ?
Turkish Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 i dont get it. If the Liebherrs aren't happy why dont they just pull the plug on us and walk away like so many threatene they would do if they read posts on here they weren't happy wiht?
georgeweahscousin Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 I don't find it that unrealistic to be honest. Saints were Markus' hobby not his families, now he has gone, it isn't crazy to suggest that the family would see out the season and sell up.
hypochondriac Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 How is Paul Allen these days ? I think longer term it will be very difficult to continue the ownership situation now Markus has died.
Master Bates Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Just bought The Sun, looked through it, I can't see anything in there about Southampton.
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Dusting off my super-yacht spotting binoculars as we speak
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Just bought The Sun, looked through it, I can't see anything in there about Southampton. Maybe the OP mistakenly typed 'Sun' instead of 'Tea leaves'?
Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 it is about 3 lines in a gossip article... there you go
saint lard Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Even if it is just a couple of lines in the Sun this rumour does not sit well with me.
MarkSFC Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 This rumour may be true but I findthe logic behind it strange. The only " Leibherr Family statement" I can recall was all about BAU and continuing to fulfil Markus' dreams. On the face of it and from the little we got to know about Markus he was a devout man with very good principles. It therefore follows that his kin would be of similar ilk particularly if involved in his other businesses. If you were already very wealthy and Markus was your father or brother etc would you sell SFC now? It doesn't fit.

We know very little about Markus's day-to-day relationship with the rest of his family. For example, we don't know the reasons why he left the family business, do we? From the anecdotal evidence I suspect you're right but there could be underlying scenarios in the past we don't know about.
St_Tel49 Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Its a rumour - anybody can say anything they like and it won't be long before a) some will have swallowed it hook, line and sinker and b) some deep thinker will have validated it by saying "There is no smoke without fire"
action man Posted 6 December, 2010 Author Posted 6 December, 2010 Just bought The Sun, looked through it, I can't see anything in there about Southampton. its on page22 of the goals pullout supplement
MarkSFC Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 We know very little about Markus's day-to-day relationship with the rest of his family. For example, we don't know the reasons why he left the family business, do we? From the anecdotal evidence I suspect you're right but there could be underlying scenarios in the past we don't know about. All true and possible. Isn't it though his immediate family, indeed his daughter who is involved running hismain business group MALI? I would have thought that his will left his businesses to her and any other children rather than perhaps brothers, cousins etc who are in the Leibherr family main business! It's true we don't know but I don't get why some people who ate supposed Saints fans continually expect, look for, and even want the (potentially) worse things to happen. Why worry so much about rumours?! Ok it could be said I am but only cos it seems that muck spreading is some peoples hobby and it's pathetic!! Do they balance their thinking by talking about what if we go up and what if we invest X could we win the Prem, or a cup, or could we extend SMS....I think not. But hey, that's just me.....
saint_mears Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 This rumour may be true but I findthe logic behind it strange. The only " Leibherr Family statement" I can recall was all about BAU and continuing to fulfil Markus' dreams. Well the problem is that wasnt a liebherr family statement as they have not said one word on the subject. All comments to date have come from the clubs own pr.
Noodles34 Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Solent were on about this on Saturday, DM was saying how nothing really difinitive has come out from the family, which I guess you could look at both ways. Lets face it, if we end up buying no one in ja n and selling Lallana then we will all know which direction we are heading.
saint_bert Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 FWIW I think Nicola would put together some plan and buy the club.
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 FWIW I think Nicola would put together some plan and buy the club. This. Cortese's bankground is investmanet banking (isn't it?) SFC is still a good investment therefore I'm sure he'd be interested in heading up a consortium to take it off the Liebherr's hands, should they ever decide to sell.
Colinjb Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Maybe the Sun trying to provoke a reaction from NC? If we were for sale i'm sure we would hear something concrete. While this remains just one isolated 3 line rumour then I am not worried.
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Someone ring the club ? SWF Poster: "Hello, is that Southampton Football Club" SFC: "Yes, how may we help?" SWF Poster: "Is the club up for sale?" SFC: "No" SWF Poster: "Ok, thank you very much"
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Maybe the Sun trying to provoke a reaction from NC? Or, maybe, a Cortese/Liebherr 'leak' to the newspaper to arouse interest in the investor community...? Or, maybe not....
georgeweahscousin Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 I have just trawled the "For Sale" section of the Echo. Not there. If they are trying to sell, they aren't trying very hard.
trousers Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 I see the first consortium meeting has already convened....
Turkish Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 I wonder what Micky Fialka is up to these days?
John B Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 As I have no knowledge of the relationship of the Liebherrs with Cortese and have no knowledge of what the Liebherrs feel abot Southampton Football Club I think everything is conjecture. With no debts on the Stadium and a large fanbase some of whom are a little too critical I might say the club is financially stable and I would suggest that there would be little change if we were taken over. It is not as though we are like Man City paying out regularly for highly paid players
Matthew Le God Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 (edited) I doubt this is true especially just days after resubmitting plans for the training ground, and even if it is, Saints are an even more attractive investment proposition now than 18 months ago when Liebherr brought the club. The club would just be sold onto another extremely rich owner. Edited 6 December, 2010 by Matthew Le God
Hatch Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 How much do they want, I get my Xmas bonus later this month.
dune Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Whatever happens Markus Liebherr has put us on a sound footing.
dune Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 No takeover thread would be complete without the Barry Beardall pic. A gold star goes to the first person to find it.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Makes no financial sense to sell now, when in 6 months time the club could be worth a lot more if promoted to the Championship.
