It's in the Sun, so not necessarily news at all.

What does the article actually say?

Lets not forget that before the appointment of Adkins,NC is meant to have had a meeting with The Sun to improve relationships with them. So whilst still an unreliable daily rag,the paper has had a thawing of relationship with the club, and may be a little closer to hearing a whisper than before.

Personally, just hope it is not true.

Depends who we sell to IMO.

i dont get it. If the Liebherrs aren't happy why dont they just pull the plug on us and walk away like so many threatene they would do if they read posts on here they weren't happy wiht?

Just bought The Sun, looked through it, I can't see anything in there about Southampton.

Maybe the OP mistakenly typed 'Sun' instead of 'Tea leaves'?

This rumour may be true but I findthe logic behind it strange.

The only " Leibherr Family statement" I can recall was all about BAU and continuing to fulfil Markus' dreams.

On the face of it and from the little we got to know about Markus he was a devout man with very good principles. It therefore follows that his kin would be of similar ilk particularly if involved in his other businesses.

If you were already very wealthy and Markus was your father or brother etc would you sell SFC now?

It doesn't fit.

We know very little about Markus's day-to-day relationship with the rest of his family. For example, we don't know the reasons why he left the family business, do we?

From the anecdotal evidence I suspect you're right but there could be underlying scenarios in the past we don't know about.

Its a rumour - anybody can say anything they like and it won't be long before a) some will have swallowed it hook, line and sinker and b) some deep thinker will have validated it by saying "There is no smoke without fire"

All true and possible. Isn't it though his immediate family, indeed his daughter who is involved running hismain business group MALI?

I would have thought that his will left his businesses to her and any other children rather than perhaps brothers, cousins etc who are in the Leibherr family main business!

It's true we don't know but I don't get why some people who ate supposed Saints fans continually expect, look for, and even want the (potentially) worse things to happen. Why worry so much about rumours?! Ok it could be said I am but only cos it seems that muck spreading is some peoples hobby and it's pathetic!!

Do they balance their thinking by talking about what if we go up and what if we invest X could we win the Prem, or a cup, or could we extend SMS....I think not.

But hey, that's just me.....

Well the problem is that wasnt a liebherr family statement as they have not said one word on the subject.

All comments to date have come from the clubs own pr.

Solent were on about this on Saturday, DM was saying how nothing really difinitive has come out from the family, which I guess you could look at both ways. Lets face it, if we end up buying no one in ja n and selling Lallana then we will all know which direction we are heading.

FWIW I think Nicola would put together some plan and buy the club.

This.

Cortese's bankground is investmanet banking (isn't it?)

SFC is still a good investment therefore I'm sure he'd be interested in heading up a consortium to take it off the Liebherr's hands, should they ever decide to sell.

Maybe the Sun trying to provoke a reaction from NC?

If we were for sale i'm sure we would hear something concrete. While this remains just one isolated 3 line rumour then I am not worried.

Someone ring the club ?

SWF Poster: "Hello, is that Southampton Football Club"

SFC: "Yes, how may we help?"

SWF Poster: "Is the club up for sale?"

SFC: "No"

SWF Poster: "Ok, thank you very much"

Or, maybe, a Cortese/Liebherr 'leak' to the newspaper to arouse interest in the investor community...?

Or, maybe not....

As I have no knowledge of the relationship of the Liebherrs with Cortese and have no knowledge of what the Liebherrs feel abot Southampton Football Club I think everything is conjecture.

With no debts on the Stadium and a large fanbase some of whom are a little too critical I might say the club is financially stable and I would suggest that there would be little change if we were taken over.

It is not as though we are like Man City paying out regularly for highly paid players

I doubt this is true especially just days after resubmitting plans for the training ground, and even if it is, Saints are an even more attractive investment proposition now than 18 months ago when Liebherr brought the club. The club would just be sold onto another extremely rich owner.
