toe_punt Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 All credit to the lads, after all ,at the end of the day it's winning games of football that's important. to Southampton football club. Great credit to the lads for giving 110% for the full 90 minutes. Pardew certainly was a more intelligent interview.........
Thedelldays Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 you what..? to be honest...all "interviews" are just the same old re hashed sound bites...only a mug hangs off the words of them
Turkish Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 are you stupid Jamie? It's about winning games of football.
hypochondriac Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 you what..? to be honest...all "interviews" are just the same old re hashed sound bites...only a mug hangs off the words of them Not sure it is a criticism, more a comment. IMO Pardew did give a better interview, not that it means an awful lot.
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Pardew did give a more intelligent sounding interview TBF, but IMO Adkins seems more human and approachable. Either way, interviews after games are pointless garbage, no manager ever wants to be dragged infront of the media after games.
Redondo Saint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Sir Clive gave really good interviews...............
Saint Charlie Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Adkins is just clever in that he gives very little away. Doesn't go overboard when we win or too down when we lose.
Turkish Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Personally i'd rather finish midtable with a manager who gave a great interview.
Thedelldays Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I always thought jan portaloo gave a good honest interview...probably better than pardew
carljack Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 you what..? to be honest...all "interviews" are just the same old re hashed sound bites...only a mug hangs off the words of them Spot on,Fergie never gives interviews to the BBC and they are not doing too bad!
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Mourinho would be crap at interviews in league 1
NickG Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Personally i'd rather finish midtable with a manager who gave a great interview. agree, far too easy just to accept Adkins because he wins most games. Much rather a character who gave us two minutes of entertainment with wity comments each weeks.
Huffton Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Bring back Strachan, in a 'media relations' role...
Turkish Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Mourinho would be crap at interviews in league 1 Although not great at L1 level, I think Adkins would probably be a good international level interviewer, i think his postive style is better suited to that level.
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Although not great at L1 level, I think Adkins would probably be a good international level interviewer, i think his postive style is better suited to that level. Touche
beatlesaint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I always thought jan portaloo gave a good honest interview...probably better than pardew You could understand Portaloo then ?
Mr Saints Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I like it when Nigel talks about entering buildings.
Dalek2003 Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Glenn Hoddle always gave very intelligent interviews.
CB Fry Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Glenn Hoddle always gave very intelligent interviews. I never said them fings.
Thedelldays Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Glenn Hoddle always gave very intelligent interviews. especially about the disabled
benjii Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Adkins is just clever in that he gives very little away. Doesn't go overboard when we win or too down when we lose. I agree. He says the same fairly bland stuff all the time because he doesn't want to blurt something out that he later regrets or reconsiders. He's clearly someone who prefers to articulate their opinion privately in the cold light of day to the people to whom it matters. Strachan was funny, sort of. Holloway is funny, sort of. Mourinho is very entertaining. That is their style. Each to their own. If you mistake what must be consciously bland interviews for a lack of intelligence or charisma then your probably missing the point IMO. Unless the interviewee is Alan Shearer, Mark Bright, Martin Keown or one of the other numpties on telly, in which case you would probably be right.
benjii Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 especially about the disabled It's just one of them fings.
captainchris Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I like Arry - 'me and sandra and the dogs' Great at interviews and great at managing with 50m to spend, great for the receivers trade too I suppose, come to think of it!
Badger Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I like Arry - 'me and sandra and the dogs' Great at interviews and great at managing with 50m to spend, great for the receivers trade too I suppose, come to think of it! f'sure
croydonsaint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 I think Adkins is fantastic, but when ever I watch him doing an interview I expect him to break into a Norman Wisdom routine..............................Grimsdale!
eelpie Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 You could understand Portaloo then ? You could understand Strachan?
corsacar saint Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Pardew came from the same language school as Beckham,Hoddle etc- i.e always speaking in the wrong tense. In comparison Adkins is very articulate, even if he is sometimes bland.
Crab Lungs Posted 2 December, 2010 Posted 2 December, 2010 Someone needs to re-programme the Adkins-bot before he's rumbled at press conference with one too many repetitions of the same line or perhaps has a wire hanging out by mistake. Failing that, they could just come clean that he's a robot and start selling Adkins dolls in the club shop... who knows, it might be a money spinner with the kids? "It's about winning games of football" "It's as simple as that" "Listen" "As long as I've been in the building" "Make no mistake about it!"
Wes Tender Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 The best Southampton manager for post-match interviews in recent times was Nigel Pearson.
Thedelldays Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 jesus.... Fuking LOL What the hell is that!!!!
Tamesaint Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 Glenn Hoddle always gave very intelligent interviews. "At this moment in time"
moon monkey Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 He gives hard working, honest, professional interviews. It's about communication, it's as simple as that.
david in sweden Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 Glenn Hoddle always gave very intelligent interviews. surely you mean unitelligible ? ..always seemed to me he was talking tactics about a game between Aliens and Hobbits.
david in sweden Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 "At this moment in time" sounds more like a song title from a Rogers and Hammerstein musical .. " ..at this moment in time ..you and I, dear "... no sorry Glenda ..it's all too deep for me, I'm afraid.
Legod Third Coming Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 The best interviews are given by Harry Redknapp in all honesty - or dishonesty obviously...
david in sweden Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 Pardew's interviews rarely made any sense ..dat's 'cos yew cuddint folla 'is Lundin accent ..awl dos'e " effs "... (and the complete absence of the English " th " .) but he always smiled and his body langauge was good.
david in sweden Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 The best interviews are given by Harry Redknapp in all honesty - or dishonesty obviously... " y' know " ... " innit " and " we woz good at the Lane "
DT Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 Lickle reminder: Pardew once described in commentary how Essien I think it was 'absolutely raped' another player. That's how good his command of the English language was.
Tamesaint Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 The best interviews are given by Harry Redknapp in all honesty - or dishonesty obviously... They are normally triffic
Cabrone Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 jesus.... That's wierd..............seriously wierd. Made me laugh though.
Badger Posted 3 December, 2010 Posted 3 December, 2010 They are normally triffic Until he is jokingly referred to as a "wheeler - dealer " of course.
toe_punt Posted 4 December, 2010 Author Posted 4 December, 2010 At the end of the day, I have to say in all honesty "All credit to you lads" for giving 110% in putting me straight. To be fair, at the end of the day it's all about winning games of football for Southampton football club at the end of the day, so, to be honest I have to tip my cap to you lads and say "all credit to you". I can't ask for more than that at the end of the day.......
georgeweahscousin Posted 4 December, 2010 Posted 4 December, 2010 Weird how people's perceptions differ. I always thought Pardew came across a bit dim in interviews. A bit too much "barrow boy". Adkins is by far the greater orator.
Kingsland Red Posted 4 December, 2010 Posted 4 December, 2010 Nice to have a manager who you can understand on the high level screens. Saints specialised in incoherent managers for many years - I needed a babble fish for Strachan, Burley and the Dutch
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 December, 2010 Posted 4 December, 2010 Weird how people's perceptions differ. I always thought Pardew came across a bit dim in interviews. A bit too much "barrow boy". Adkins is by far the greater orator. You are joking? Adkins is repetitive and genuinely rarely includes a subject or object in his sentences... Personally I don't give a to55 because I want a football manager not an English teacher!
Pat from Poole Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 The best Southampton manager for post-match interviews in recent times was Nigel Pearson. Completely agree. Told it how it was with no waffle, articulate guy. After Strachan and Hoddle, our best manager of the last decade.
saint84 Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 Porterloo was great for interviews just what you need especially if you've just lost something to laugh at.
Shrivvy Saint Posted 6 December, 2010 Posted 6 December, 2010 One of the problems with Adkins is that he does spout out the same stuff after every game and it's starting to get a bit boring.
