El-Abd's Injury from the Brighton Game - Not for Faint Hearted!

It was Calderon who actually did it, not Lallana. They both slid in when blocking Lallana's shot and Calderon jumped in and caught El-Abd which subsequently caused this.

Not a pretty sight. Im 100% backing anybody that says blades should be banned.

I thought he collided with there right back trying to block lallana s 2nd effort ?

anyway the whole of that particular action just negates totally the argument that Morgan never plays dangerous forward passes.

Beautiful through ball, a real striker would have sunk it in a heartbeat, but Lallana isn't a real striker. Good work from him of course but this is really why we need an instinctive striker.Give Rooney or Tevez a ball like that and it's in the back of the net in a nanosecond...still we're in the 3rd division.

Its when you see pictures like this that makes me think football should go down the rugby road of using metal only studs. Even prevents the potential danger of plastic studs wearing down to sharp edges when they are worn on concrete.

What a load of crap people are talking about "blades" on here. Do any of you even have the foggiest clue what Calderon was wearing on his feet, never mind the kind of sole plate and stud configuration he had?

That kind of thing can happen no matter what people are wearing, but I'd be inclined to think plastic studs would do less damage than anything metal...

I wonder if any friendly Seagull fans could confirm the type of boot Calderon wears.

Regardless of what Calderon was wearing there is a far far higher chance of blades causing injury of this type and also of causing ligament, tendon and muscle injuries due to nature of the grip they can provide, It's too good and rigid. Their plastic material is easier to wear down into a sharp edge.

Blades were invented in all good intentions but they are absolutely dreadful in application. They need to be banned. The injuries I have seen caused at the football club I coach at through gashes caused by these are frankly astonishing, the slightest 'nick' from a worn blade tears through socks, shin pad support straps and in particularly awful circumstances, the soft tissue beneath.

Not really crap, blades have been criticised for a long time by managers etc in regards to the damage they can inflict upon not only the wearer but also any opposing players that can ge caught by jagged edges. Studs simply do not become as jagged and sharp as blades can become.

Whats more i have no doubt that the amount of injuries to knees and ankles recently has risen because of the prominence of blades at grass roots and at professional levels, in fact a lot of clubs these days (professional) have banned the use of blades by their players.

I have no doubt that blades caused myself to pick up the knee injuries i have and the other people i know who have done similar (ACL tear) and other knee/ankle injuries have said the same.

To put it simply, blades give you tremendous grip and friction between yourself and the ground, this is not always a good thing however in respect that there are times (cutting and twisting) that you really want your feet to be able to release from the ground.

I think we should all just take a moment to consider that.

I'll feel faint. And to think I didn't even clap him off the field as Brighton were being so negative at the time.

Why are people blaming Lallana?

It was a collision with his teammate Calderon...

Why is Matthew Le Smartarse telling us it was Calderon?

We already knew this as far back as post seven of this very thread...

Is that RLGM that I see lurking 25 yards out in the background. WTF is he doing there, surely he should be in the 6 yard box sniffing for a rebound. Perhaps he's playing in midfield nowadays, 0-10-0 ...Burley must be in charge again.

Typical soft pro footballer. Yer average sunday league player would have been back out for the second half with a couple of band aids and a pack of B+H.

How come you continued to wear blades after your first tear if you're so sure blades were the cause? By the way I ruptured my acl whilst wearing studs.

Because the first time was more of the tackle TBH rather than the blades, the second time however was 100% because my foot stuck in the ground. I have also had similar experiences twisting my ankle in blades.

TBF though, it was always the plastic blades and not metal.

I still would never wear them again.

He played last night. Quick recovery for an injury like that.
