I think it's a cracking draw. It'll be a good game with plenty of goals, probably 3-2 one way or the other. No shame if we lose and quite a fillip if we win.

Exactly.

But it's cooler to pretned you're really hard and only interested in going to Berwick away on a Tuesday night.

This will give us a chance to see how far we have come under Adkins, Blackpool will play an open game I would think, so on paper it should be an entertaining game.

It depends on whether Olly can be ar$ed about the cup at all. Remember Blackpool's 'weakened' team only lost by the odd goal in 5 at Villa a couple of weeks ago. Having watched them at the Reebok yesterday, and taking into account their excellent away form in general, one thing is almost certain, it will not be 'boring'. They are quick and fluid on the attack, keep the ball down, and will run directly at our defenders. Most of all, they play as a TEAM.

This will certainly spice up my office tomorrow.

How anyone can describe a fixture involving one of Holloway's teams as "dull", or "boring" is beyond me. No doubt he will give a few rentaquotes in the build up to remind us it would be good to beat him and his team.Winnable fixture in my view, providing we up the tempo considerably from yesterday.

this. blackpool have scored at least twice in 12 prem games from 16 this season.

Are we entering our reserves in the Scottish League now ?

The sheer arrogance of some on here is just astonishing. Home draw, prem opposition and its BORING?

It's probably them that is boring.

I tell you what would be boring: Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal etc... this will be fun.

That some gimpoids on here get a semi on at the idea of playing Blackpool in the 3rd Rd of the FAC comes as no surprise.

That Holloway has his team playing a refreshingly bright style is not in doubt but as a season ticket holder I've no, none, nada, zip, zilch, nowt interested in shelling out on tickets/travel for a game that even my nipper, who at 8 loves all things Saints, went "meh" at.

The league is all that matters but no doubt the usual gimps won't understand that and think it's 2003 all over again!

Some of you lot are miserable sods! Blackpool at home is the ideal tie. in fact its quite an attractive tie really, a mid to lower premier League side at home, its winnable without a doubt. Blackpool play good football and i am sure Nigel will get the team attack them so it could turn out to be a corker. I hope its priced reasonably. If we overprice it we will only get about 15.000. If we price it correctly we will get 22 or 23.000. I would make the most expensive tickets £20. Dont forget we beat Blackpool at home in 1976 on the way to wembley.

Posted
As long as I can have my season ticket seat without some other muppet buying it, I shall be happy.

Do you really think as ST holders we will get any advantage over others? Haven't done so far so I'm expecting to have to battle for my ticket...

Posted

I'll be going provided its no more than £25, but it'll be a weird world in which Blackpool are regarded as an attraction for plastic floating fans.

I think we'll get about 19,000 if it's £25 and 25,000 if it's £18-ish.

I wouldn't be surprised if the prices are ridiculous though, the justification being that they're a Prem side. We'll get fewer than for Cheltenham if tickets are £35, especially as I expect them to field nigh-on a reserve side.

what makes me cringe is the countless fans on here moaning about drawing a home tie in the third round of FA Cup against top flight opposition. OK its no glamour club, but its the FA cup, we are still in it and we can win this game. "Come to watch united, you've only come to watch united" fits many of our fans perfectly.

Well said. Regardless of who we play I will always be there.

Wow really? Just because I see it as possibly being an exciting tie and you don't I qualify as being a gimpoid?

Blimey people really need to calm down over whether they are going/not going or think its going to be boring/exciting.

Either way its going to be fecking cold at St Marys.

I will go if its 20 quid max. Anymore and thats taking the p!ss.

Why should it be cheaper than a third tier match? If we keep it at league prices we will get a decent crowd IMO.

was it mcgoldrick that hit the bar in injury time?

Ah that I don't remember, saw it on wobbly justintv, just remember one incident where AL had 3 bites at the same apple,2 were blocked by the keeper and the third he sidefooted wide (or something like that) Only thing(as far as I remember) that was really impressive about that game was the partnership between Holmes and Morgan...out of this world, but we couldn't score and they eventually wore us down.

Quite pleased with that draw TBH. Blackpool are a decent team doing much better in the Prem than anyone expected but it's a winnable tie for us, especially at home. A bit of added spice if they play Ormerod, Euell and Crainey!!

Ahh, yes I remeber that chance! Oooohh, I don't mind admitting I done a swear then.

Not a bad draw. Winnable and will be a good test of how far we've come this season against a side who this time last year were only mid-table in the Championship - where we aim to be next season. I'm looking forward to it. 20,000 + crowd (at least as many who came to see Saints against the likes of Rochdale and Tranmere, surely.)

Blackpool play attractive, attacking football, plus we will want to give Holloway a bloody nose, won't we?

We've got nothing to lose. Enjoy.

Blimey some of the comments on this thread are totally unbelievable. Are you lot Saints fans or what? We've got a home draw in the FA Cup against a top flight team and people are moaning it's boring/won't go/can't be arsed etc. I thought being a fan was about going and supporting your team in any game Ffs. WTF are you moaning for? Bet you all went to the JPT final so what's the difference with this competition? Get a ****ing grip.

I think it is the Cup that is all that matters.

Many of our greatest games have been in the FA Cup

If you build a team good enough to win the FA Cup then promotions will naturally follow from the momentum gained, but they won't be as exciting as winning the FA Cup.

Don't be brainwashed by Sky, Chairmen and owners. It's the fans game as well as theirs

Couldn't agree more. How these people can call themselves fans is beyond me.

I love fans who get excited about the prospect of Manchester United at home. Here is a message for them.

F U C K Off and watch United then, and buy a house in St Albans with all their other fans.

I pay to watch Southampton.

Good point, Well made

What does a third tier ticket price normally cost? I went to Pompey and man united games but can't remember. I always thought they hiked the prices because of who it was we were playing (not that I agree with that!) therefore being a lesser team (which they are no question) you'd expect them to be a bit more sensible in order to push for a sellout....

Despite us getting a boring club with no fans, i wouldn't have been interested if we'd got a decent tie. The league is what matters and i couldn't give a toss about the cup.

But interested enough to comment on a cup thread. Strange.

What a great draw. Apart from having a lot of personal history with Blackpool as a place there are a lot of reasons for me to be happy with this draw.

An exciting team to watch who play two leagues above us, it's winnable and what's more... we can sing "Posh Spice is a slapper" again. One of the best football songs ever sung IMO. :D

This is what football is about isn't it? Having fun. Not, watching some highly over paid youngsters from Manchester United run around and destroy our team, whilst sitting with a load of plastics who destroy the atmosphere.

Honestly i'd rather we weren't in the cup. It's just a distraction from the league.

Amazed at some peoples comments. We have drawn a Prem side at home. A Prem side that has more points on the road than Chelsea this season! Possible reunion with a Saints cup hero in Brett Ormerod and one of our worst ever left backs!

Decent draw.

If Brett plays for them I hope he gets a decent reception.

Should be a good game and I wouldn't be disappointed with an entertaining loss, something like 4-3.

I wonder if anyone would be brave enough to admit to having said that when we were drawn to play Blackpool in 1976?

Cost us promotion that year too iirc.

This!

Very sad how some people just seem to have lost the idea of the magic of the Cup. It is still thr best cup competition in the world and yet some so-called football fans on here seem to think it is some sort of pennance to have to play in it. This is the same competition that brought us our greatest ever moment (and some other near misses as well). So we may not be in with a chance of winning it, so what. It is something a bit different and gives us a chance to play a game with no real fear, go out and try to win against a better team and not care about grinding out 3 points against a top team like Dagenham & Redbridge. Still, guess you won't please evryone, but still some real saddos on here.

Of course Blackpool are no mugs in the Cup, they have a tradition similar to us (one win) and for many years were a much bigger team than we were (they have spent more seasons in the top flight than we have). I suppose some of the kiddywinks on here have probably never heard of Matthews, Mortensen & Perry. I only recently found out that Bill Perry was the husband of my cousin - he scored the winning injury-time goal in the famous 4-3 win over Bolton in the Matthews Final (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/obituaries/article2562756.ece). Blackpool of course beat us in a 5th round replay to reach that memorable final. I should add that the game was actually before I was born (just) but was folklore when I was a nipper.

Still if all the miserable sods who don't think the game matters stay away it will be better for the rest of us who support Saints and want to see us do well in whatever competition we are playing.
