Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Whats the point in having that arguement then ?? It would never happen. You can't say who would be better in league one Torres or Lambert and then say Lambert as Torres wouldn't turn up. Thats as annoying as the smug w*nker at school when the obvious question of 'what would you do if a T Rex knocked on your door ?' and he answered 'it wouldn't happen would it'. As for saying Lallana is similar to Messi you are having a f*cking laugh. I think you could easily see Messi and Lallana as similar players could you not? Skilful, thoughtful, intelliegent players who covet the ball and use it well. Certainly Lallana is more similar to Messi than any other players at that level. Similar TYPE of player only in the fact that they have decent ball control, but not in the case that Messi also has searing pace, a fantastic footballing brain and an unbelievable drive. Plus Messi isn't really a wide sided player but plays in more of a free role, in fact i couldn't really describe where he plays except for wherever he wants. Perhaps he would be a sort of inside forward of sorts, or a deep lying striker i don't know.
Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 no one..just pointing out that one of the worlds most feared striker would probably tear it up in league 1.. we can only base this argument on ability as you cant second guess what is going on in their minds.. feck me...richard chaplow stands out in league 1..and he is about top end NPC level... Ok so Torres makes one of his darting runs, plays the ball to Chaplow, moves at pace to where he expects the return, sets himself up for a volley and then... Chaplow has laid the ball square to someone else because Torres is on a different plane to everyone else, which means he quickly gets ****ed off, quickly realises he is way too good for League One and that's the end of that... I guess if it's as simple as the best footballers in the world being able to excel in any game at every level, Torres would be top scorer in the Blue Square and playing for my local pub side irrespective of the players around him? Isn't it more about horses for courses?

Smirking_Saint Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 I don't really understand what you are getting at TBH. Lallana is a shadow of the player Messi is and will never ever reach a half of his ability. As for Torres, as i said before, you are only as good as the players around you and as such he would be the top scorer in League 1 with ease. You can only judge on ability if you are going to make one of these whimsicle outcomes.

Smirking_Saint Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Chappers is never top NPC level ability, i would say solid, but not top, not yet, he needs to keep the consistency for that IMO.

Let's say last season Torres was playing for Gillingham. Would he have scored more than Lambert's 31 goals??
benjii Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Look, if you can't see that Messi or Torres would be rubbish in League One then I seriously worry about you. I mean, FFS, imagine if Messi or Torres played for your 5-a-side team! They would soon be off home for their tea having been well and truly shown up after you and your mates had run rings around them.
benjii Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Right. Let's say last season Torres was playing for Gillingham. Would he have scored more than Lambert's 31 goals?? Why is he playing for Gillingham? He's not good enough for them.

Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Why is he playing for Gillingham? He's not good enough for them. I cannot conceive that you cannot see this argument? Lambert - played in all weathers, battled on, all grounds and bullied (yes brutally sometimes) his way to 31? goals. You seriously believe that Fernando Torres would have scored that many goals playing upfront in a 4-5-1 for Southampton against Wycombe? Brentford? Carlisle... You do not believe he would been injured? Found the going a bit tough? Bottled it after a few rank trips to Hartlepool?? Tell you what then, why not go buy the fastest racehorse you can find and enter it into the Grand National. After all, it will win.

There's no argument to see apart from you making the nonsense assertion that Fernando Torres would struggle, or at least not be that good, in League One and now trying to qualify that with loads of assumptions about his mind-set and fitness in this ludicrous hypothetical world where players with pace and clinical finishing do worse than slow lumps who can strike a good ball. Presumably he would do worse than BWP this season?

From day one when I first made this argument I said I had no doubt Torres was a better striker - it would be bonkers to say otherwise. But who would I have rather had up front last season and who WOULD have scored more goals? Richard Lambert. What I see is people sheepishly now accepting this is true based on Torres' record, known mindset and the realities of League One and now running for cover claiming he could have single handedly saved Gillingham from relegation... LOL!

LOL! I can't see anyone conceding ?? I see people trying to figure out your somewhat flawed arguement. And i am in no way performing a personal attack here but what you are saying is utter guff and you only made it worse by comparing possibly (in a few years) the greatest player ever to an exceptional league 1 winger. Thing is you cannot make as Benji said hypothetical b*llocks about umpteen different scenarios that could happen you can only base it on ability and facts. I do agree with you by the way, he probably wouldn't break any goalscoring records or what not playing for Gillingham but yes i honestly think he could definately see them into a playoff spot atleast. If Jackson could score a reasonable amount who is an unproven striker in my books and nothing particularly special then Torres would have scored a bucket load, he is a top top level striker and his movement would create chances on its own, added to the fact that the chances that are created (and we can only base that on the reletive levels of the gillingham players and the teams they play against) which would be possibly 5-6 chances a game i could easily see him scoring 2-3 at least against league 1 level defenders. He has coped perfectly well moving from La Liga to a more aggressive premiership and is a big lad who puts himself about so why would he not do it in league 1 ?? It is pretty much madness. Plus the he wouldn't want to play in league 1 arguement is floored as he wouldn't come here in the first f*cking place.

Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Utter boll*cks. Rickie was on form, top form last year but Torres would have scored more and possibly created more. In your view. I totally disagree. I would be stunned if he would have made it past November. If you offered me the choice on July 1st this year to start with Lambert or Torres up front, I would have picked Rickie. He is a proven, league-topping goal-scorer in this league - twice. Torres made 22 league appearences in the league for Liverpool last year, 24 the year before... And as for, we can't have this 'hypothetical' argument, it wasn't me who first said Torres would score loads of goals in League Fecking One was it!?!! Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 It's interesting that Torres scored many more goals in La Liga than the Spanish Second Division?? "Atlético were promoted to La Liga at the end of the 2001–02 season, although Torres did not perform well in the season, as he netted only six times in 36 appearances in the Segunda División.[12] Torres' first season in La Liga, 2002–03, was better, however, as he scored 13 goals in 29 appearances, with Atlético finishing in 11th place.[12][11] In the 2003–04 season, his second in La Liga, Torres made further strides, scoring 19 league goals in 35 appearances..." The9 Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 No he didn't the only header he won on saturday was the one that went in the goal, I said he won very little not none at all. I saw him muscled off the ball plenty of times in headers on saturday, Guly has looked good in exactly one match so far and that was Tranmere and quite frankly most players would look good against the team Tranmere put out that day. I'm sorry but that's just garbage.
