Wade Garrett Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Thnak fook, I thought I was seeing things. I am sure he is playing behind Barnard, sort of an advanced "In The Hole" position. Having seen it myself twice, that seemed to me to be a clear tactical decision and would explain why he isn't in the box as much and why NA is happy with what he is doing for the team That's how I see as well. I think we'd be better suited by Lallana in the hole, with either one or both of Lambert and Barnard up front. However, this would probably upset the balance of the team. Just play a straight 4-4-2, with Chaplow attacking down the middle, and Lallana and AOC attacking out wide.

Our centre forward is in fact now playing,by design, err somewhere else than where he should be, we don't actually have a CF anyway,so actually we're playing 4-4-1-1-0 with goalscoring being the responsibility of anyone except our primary striker....bull**** that's what I say, the bloke is off the pace and it just looks like he's playing a different role. derry Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 I think you are making an assumption that the only mental attribute is composure. Speed of thought, anticipation and awareness, imagination and coordination are also relevant. Having good feet is worth Jack if you don't (or can't be bothered to) think quickly enough. That magic thing called confidence - some players manage to keep it, some are more mentally fragile and let things affect them more easily. Generally it's speed of thought that is the critical mental attribute when it comes to "stepping up a level" as a striker. RL is reacting late, not anticipating well enough or making decisions quickly enough at the moment. I think you are pretty close to the problem. A player also has to go flat out at times. I have been watching Lambert carefully for a few games and one thing which is really getting up my nose is that he isn't raising his pace to flat out at any point. On many occasions when he is changing position he trots which most of the time is fine, but then he suddenly has to make a burst of pace, but doesn't and continues at threequarter pace even though it is obvious he needs to go flat out. Lambert can give so much more than he is doing. If he is injured he needs taking out of the firing line. If he is not, he needs to make more effort, go flat out at times and if he doesn't, he should be used as a sub until he sorts himself out. At the moment one goal from about 25 games is not good enough for the main striker. Four penalties and a deflected free kick muddy the waters. Lambert doesn't earn a starting place at the moment and until he does we have to find another way of playing until January. However it may be that Saturday has brought things to a head and the next time we see him play, he will either be fit or motivated preferably both. Viking Warrior Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 I have read most of the posts about Rickie Lambert and there are alsorts of theories. my take is that there has not been any fallout between manager and player just a few conspiratists on here perpertrating bad news against the club of the games I have seen so far this season . Rickie is being heavily marked but is still creating opportunities for other players and giving defenders a very hard time. Its a shame connloy is not playing as last season rickie and connolly were a lethal coupling. And don't forget the roles antonio and papa played. i didnt know what those two were going to do from minute to the next so how an earth were defenders supposed to defend. This year Rickie is still working hard and the goals will come but whilst we have OXO and Guly they do not provided the same disruption as anntonio and papa and Connolly. I wonder what some of our fickle fans would say if Le god was still playing would you give him the same stick you beating rickie with. he always gave the impression of being slow and lasy . Smirking_Saint Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Not overly slagging Lambert off, not at all, and don't go accusing me of being negative as that is not me. What i am being is a realist. Lambert is off the pace, i know that he is considered a god by a lot of people, but i am not going to let my admiration of him last year get in the way of my opinion that he is out of form and the signs of him lacking confidence are painfully obvious. Should we be selling him ? No. Should we drop him ? If we had the replacements yes. Of course he still does a job upfront, and that is probably the only reason he has not been dropped, but all the time that the chances are dropping to him in the box we are throwing points away. And IMO you don't just suddenly gain masses of confidence, it comes slowly, and often after a break. Anyone who has been in that state of mind of 'i need a goal' 'i am not going to score' knows that. He has the potential to score another 30 goals this season if he sorts himself out tommorrow but he won't, and that is why i have said i doubt he will score 20. I may be wrong, i hope i am but i cannot see it ATM.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Brighton game RL plays and we get 0-0. Next game we win 3-0 without RL in 2nd half and no goals from RL again. RL may be good with his assists (debatable), but he is taking up a space that could go to someone fit and motivated (which he does not appear to be). If he had to work to retain his place it would be a good thing, however there is not the competition there right now. Also, I think NA is trying to get RL to play out of his comfort zone and it ain't working.
The9 Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Really Guly won very little in the air yesterday Guly (and Lambert this season) is **** poor the only thing he has over Lambert is pace (but them my 60 year old mum could out run Lambert). At least Gobern was on hand to show Lambert and Guly how to head a ball properly yesterday. By scoring the same number of goals from headers as Guly did. Yes, well done, great logic. Guly won plenty of headers in his deep lying striker/attacking midfielder role - those that were actually aimed near him, and he always does. He couldn't do much about the ones we whacked at Oxlade-Chamberlain as they were usually 10-15 yards from him.
doddisalegend Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 This. The goals will come, but for now I'll settle for the huge amount of assists he's getting huge? according to the O/S Lallana is our top assist supplier with 6 assists. In fairness Lambert has had the most shots on goal this season with 61 shots (don't know how many of those are pens and free kicks though)

No he didn't the only header he won on saturday was the one that went in the goal, I said he won very little not none at all. I saw him muscled off the ball plenty of times in headers on saturday, Guly has looked good in exactly one match so far and that was Tranmere and quite frankly most players would look good against the team Tranmere put out that day. Oh......you weren't joking. TBF, its not like i reckon he would score 175 a season, but to believe he wouldn't be the top goal scorer is as mad as saying Rickie is as good as Le Tiss. As a striker IMO you are only as good as your midfield, and so Torres could only score what chances were created, but thinking he wouldn't score 30 odd is rediculous. Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2010 Share Posted 30 November, 2010 Let me explain this for the hard of thinking in topical terms... Which is quicker?
