S-Clarke Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 This league is weaker now without the likes of McCoid, Jermaine Easter, Marcus Tudgay - so that can only serve as more ammunition to us. We may have not got anyone, but we will certainty benift from our rivals loosing their better players.
verlaine1979 Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 not really the same Verlaine, but then I suspect you knew that. Paul-Marie rather than Tom, My name refers to the former rather than the latter. Always had more of an interest in poetry than post-punk.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Bit fed up we didn't get anyone in today. But the Bournemouth Echo makes hilarious reading their lovely chairman stating how Josh McCoid is not leaving and how they are buiding a squad. At least we haven,t got rid of 2 strickers for very little money. One less team in the promotion race and a lot of egg on a smug gits face. I am a bit underwhelmed but TBH Adkins said he was looking and i believe him, which in my eyes is a good thing. The thing to remember is we have decent players here ATM and there is no point loaning someone that is not going to compete or improve the squad. If we havn't found anyone good enough then so be it.
Chez Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Glad Fallon has left Plymouth as well as he always causes us problems.
corsacar saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Permanent signings in january are surely better than any short term loan deals till january.
suewhistle Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Cadence is fine in the post somewhere above: you could have used tempo to the same effect. Anyway, I understood, and in English it's often used for something rhythmical, periodical. The Italian cadere (to fall) is cognate. Certainly Ricky has lost his rhythm, his regular, periodic scoring, fallen off a cliff in fact, but we know what potentially he can do... Anyway, I've never read Verlaine: I got as far as M: Maupassant and Moliere and a little Montaigne so what do I know (apart from this wine is very good.:-) ). In Italian don't bother with Manzoni: turgid as f**k.
hackedoff Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 having read the last couple of comments i am off to slash me wrists It's a marathon not a sprint guys. Your,re right , unfortunately we,ve got an anvil strapped to our backs and are wearing wellie boots.

Don't you find it's often embarassing afterwards to read what you post when you've had a glass or two??:-). I think this post will probably be a classic example... hic.. Ah yes, on topic: I'd have thought we'd be a good destination for loanees given our training and medical set-up, decent squad, good ground and crowds, etc. Maybe teams are worried our basic squad is too good and the loanees won't get the games they want: we certainly can't guarantee games to anyone.. Discuss..
RonManager Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 What are the odds on the old 23 minutes past 11pm / Echo gone to print announcement?
Give it to Ron Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 What are the odds on the old 23 minutes past 11pm / Echo gone to print announcement? Very long going by his statement on the OS, the only activity was Fish extending his loan.

Wes Tender Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 You lot are so miserable... Its quiet simple, we had no manager for 4 or 5 games? which we got no points from. If we didn't have that issue we would of probably gained at least 5 points and be top of the league. jeesh:rolleyes: Yes, you can see that and I can see that too. And also that we weren't doing so great this season under the manager who left. But there are those on here who seem to have totally ignored that and think that we are currently struggling. These will be the ones who somehow think that we are in a sprint and not a marathon.

SaintRichmond Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 surprised we did not sign anyone. It came as no surprise to me The writing has been on the wall ever since Markus passed away, (if not before) Whoever was in charge had to make do with what we had, END OF, even though it was obvious we were very light in some areas For once Cortese, a BAD Short Sighted Business Plan IMHO If our "Strikers" get injured, we have no adequate Back Up
SaintRichmond Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 Permanent signings in january are surely better than any short term loan deals till january. Why ?? At least if we had them on loan NOW, we could make it permanent in the January Sales The thing to worry about is who will LEAVE in January We are STILL only a Third Division outfit

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 26 November, 2010 Author Posted 26 November, 2010 A bit disappointed we've not brought anyone in, TBH. I take NA's point about having a pathway for our kids to come through, and not blocking their way with Premier League youngsters, but I thought we'd be looking for out of favour CCC players to come in an influence the first XI, in the way Chaplow has done, with the carrot of a permanent move. Never mind, in NA we trust and hopefully he has good plans for the January window.
Saint_Ash Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 What's the point getting someone in on loan now if they're not going to be better than what we have? Teams aren't going to let their better players go with a busy Christmas schedule coming up. I think we still have a strong enough squad to last at least a month before we can start looking in the Jan window. There's no point worrying about it unless you're just a natural whinger and depressive.

saintjay77 Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 What is it with you obsession with our chairmen....you didn't take long to go into ruddy cheek rant mode. Cortese is the new Lowe dont ya know....... If its good then its a fluke or the team/management did it in spite of the Dark Lord. If its bad then its all the Dark Lords fault no matter who is wearing the Dark Lord Sweatshirt and name badge. To be fair, if I was the one in charge of the purse strings I think I would still say no every now and then. Not just because I feel like it or because I think I know more than the manager, but because I would set out a plan of how much money will be available through the season and agree with the manager these limits and then stick to them as much as possible. We have a squad that is capable of being in the top 2 and some decent youngens that we would look to loan in if they were elsewhere wanting some game time. Doble I think will get a chance fairly soon and I think he is more than capable of taking it. No point in just getting people in for the sake of it so if the right people were not available then stick to what we have. No need to whine and ****** about it as if someone has screwed up.

NickG Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 amazing how fans question the backing after signings we have made and keeping players. even this "emergency" loan window we have signed a midfielder who was wanted by a premiership club and looks like signing perm asap

We are a more attractive proposition than all championship clubs and any club in the Premier League that cant get in the champions league. We are more attractive to players than some champions league clubs like Rangers, who wants to win Scottish titles and play in the champions league in front of 50,000 fans every week when they can play away at Hartlepool and Yeovil? People will come here too be part of the project or for the money, i dont care which. And Rickie Lambert should be in the England squad. Where have all these posters from the summer gone? Turkish Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 (edited) and lambert is better than torres If Yaya Toure is on £200k + a week i really think we need to have a look at Morgans contract and give him a rise. He is a French U21 international and potentially the best midfielder in the world. If we want to keep him then the extra £195k a week wont hurt as it'll keep him happy and we are loaded so it doesn't matter to us. Edited 26 November, 2010 by Turkish

Window Cleaner Posted 29 November, 2010 Posted 29 November, 2010 You take a look through the other squads in league one and tell me which of those have more than two strikers who keep getting goals. now it would seem to me that Bournemouth,Peterborough,Charlton and Huddersfield all have (or had in the case of Bournemouth) 2 strikers who have scored more than any one in our squad, and Lambert has 4 penalties in his score as well.Maybe they all have a shedload of penalties, I don't follow any of them closely. Fortunately we have a decent defence to mop up the inefficiency of our strikers a bit.
NickG Posted 30 November, 2010 Posted 30 November, 2010 Our forwards this season Lambert 6 Lallana 6 Barnard 5 Alex Ox-C 4 De Prado 3 Connolly 1 Last year, at this level Lambert 35 Lallana 20 Barnard 26 Connolly 7 Don't know how good Ryan Doble is. Brighton -forwards in their squad and goals scored this season Barnes 7 (lower league player before this season) Murray 5 (14 last year) Sandaza 1 (relased from Dundee last season) then couple of 18 year olds who haven't scored. We are not weak for this league!!!

We have Ricky Lambert who despite not being in form at the moment is easily the best striker at this level over the last two years. And last season we signed Lee Barnard, who if you ignore the Premier League-bound Jermaine Beckford, was and is the second best striker at this level over the last couple of seasons. We also have the incredibly prolific and highly courted Adam Lallana and a great golden oldie in David Connolly. And, all of a sudden a sh it hot youngster in Chamberlain. How many other top class L1 strikers do you seriously expect this club to have? Get in the real world you freak. Funny how back in the day you were chief amongst the bleaters against our infamous former chairmen and his lack of investment in the squad and all that guff. CB Fry Posted 30 November, 2010 Posted 30 November, 2010 Umm, I think you'll find Llalana and Ox.C are both midfielders, no? We've got two of the best strikers in this division by a country mile. We've got more than adequate cover for them on the bench, and we've got goals elsewhere on the pitch. Anyone who thinks we're hard done by on the striking/scoring front is something of a bellend, no?

The problem is three of those are carrying injuries (and one possible jail time) and while Lambert and Barnard were two of the best strikers last season they doesn't mean they will be this season and currently aren't on goals scored (that would bizzarely be BWP). Lallana and Chambo are great but asking them to lead the line the way Lambert did so brillantly last season might be asking to much of them. Do you not think that given that Nigel has being saying that Lambert and Barnard have being carrying injuries for sometime and that Connolly (good as he can be) spends more time in the treatment room than on the pitch an extra loan striker might have been an idea before the window shut? you're right we have a good (and expensive) set of forwards but while three of them are carrying injuries we're thin on the ground.
