Saint in Paradise Posted 22 November, 2010 Share Posted 22 November, 2010 To me it seemed like Martinex wasn't even looking at Williams when he through that punch "The astonishing KO came during the second round of WBC middleweight championship re-match between Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams. Middleweight king Martinez unleashed a crushing left hook with such force it sent Williams reeling face first into the canvas knocked out cold with a spine tingling vacant stare as he was counted out." http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/8371249/knockout-year . They said that about UFC five years ago! Not a chance, Boxing will always be bigger, you've only got to look at the attention the mismatch of Haye v Harrison to see how any relatively big fight catches the imagination of the public, even people with no knowledge or interest in boxing were talking about it. Anyone with any amount of boxing knowledge knew Haye would win easily but still the public lapped it up, all other combat sports are and always will be miles behind. Do you think a British MMA fighter will get 20,000 people following him to fight in Las Vegas like Ricky Hatton did? WIll never happen. Its like saying 20/20 cricket will be as popular as football. It has got bigger and its has its fans but is miles away from being as popular as football.
Ekelund24 Posted 25 November, 2010 Share Posted 25 November, 2010 MMA is more skillful as it requires more disciplines but the striking aspect of MMA is light years behind Boxing UFC will be more popular than the **** fights but not as popular as the top level fights
