Wrong favicons

Why is the favicon thing in my address bar rarely actually that of the website I'm looking at?

For example,as I type this, I can see the google one. A minute ago, on the main board, I could see what appeared to the BBC one. And many others are usally displayed when they're not supposed to.

 

It doesn't really bother me to much, but just seems odd.

Tried deleting cookies etc?

Yep tried that, which reminds me. I also can't delete the history/cookies on here either. I'm on IE, I click the 'safety' drop down box at the top, select 'Delete Browsing History', have all options ticked (i.e. delete history/cookies etc.) but after I've done it the history is still there -if I type an address in the address bar it auto-completes everything and you can still see every page visited. 'Tis odd, and a little annoying.

I've had similar favicon problems to Jawillwill and Mr Saint, but it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Wish I could give you both some advice but I have no idea. It may have only been with firefox.
