Leicestersaint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 A very good result - what a shame we coudln't get something away last week at carlisle and away at Huddersfield. dronskisaint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Lambert hat trick on Tuesday to kick start his season....he just needs a couple to get him going this year. We have good options but his class earns him his place & he's linking play, drawing defenders away even while he's not scoring. Looking forward to Tuesday & have a ticket...going to be a good crowd! S-Clarke Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Really enjoyed that, we were in control for the majority of the game. We started with a tempo and pushed them back at every oppertunity, as soon as they had the ball we harried them and eventually won the ball back and forced errors from them - time and time again, this method lead to our first goal v Barnard which was a brilliant finish. We played out the rest of the 1st half in control, we had a couple of dodgy moments but i didn''t ever feel too threatened by P'Boro. We started the 2nd half even quicker than the first, straight out of the blocks from the KO and before P'boro could even touch the ball, we'd made it 2-0 with a great header and one hell of a cross from Dickson. It was 3-0 shortly after when a terrific team move down the right, a terrific ball in by Hammond and a fantastic volley by Chaplow - a real class goal that. They got their consolation (sloppy bit of play from us) but we wrapped it up straight after with a good header from Guly. What stood out to me today was how impressive our full backs were, we looked so balanced down either flank and alot of the play was coming through them. Over the past few seasons we've been known to put makeshift right backs and left backs in there, but the real thing makes so much difference. Chappers was excellent, you're not going to find many better midfielders than him at this level he's terrific. Holmes was also very very good when he came on, showed a good turn on a couple of occasions and got an assist with an excellent cross so he's really pushed himself into the team now. To all those people doubting Jaidi...he was class today, you do not need to be a quick defender to deal with pace. All you need is intelligence and a positional sense about you and he had that in abundance today, looked like a total rock. Overall a very good win and you can see why P'boro concede as many as they do, they look a nice footballing team but as soon as they're pressured with a bit of guile and pace then they fall apart. Bring on brighton...

Give it to Ron Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Sorry I cant believe someone above slagged Jaidi...Fonte was at fault ...one is black the other had orange boots on!!! Jaid had a great game - Fonte didnt simples. Radhi never lost a header and for once was decent on the floor. Lets criticise when a player is bad but lets just cut out the rubbish when they play well. K,Billy's supersound Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Good game for me my man of the match is Jaidi. alot on here were saying to start him would be wrong and would cost us, instead he won every header he went in for and looked the most assured at the back. midfield duo chaplow and hammond had the midfield battle won for pretty much all the game lallana ran his sock's off and also played well. oxo again did ok his run down the right early in game was good but he did seem to fade in second half i guess the knock he took to his neck disrupted him. but holmes comming on did well good cross and nice pass to put guly 1 on 1. lambert set up the 1st goal but apart for that again didnt do enough for me he dosnt even challange for 50/50 headers anymore just leans into the opposition player. i hope we are looking to bring in another striker in january. barnard took his goal well and worked hard closing down again hope he's ok for tuesday because he is the most likley to score atm. davis in goal made a really good save on the 10min mark when 0-0 that was huge but did also flap in the second half but in all he as with the whole team played well and fully deserved the win. Nexstar Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Didn't think anyone had a bad game and we fired on all cylinders. Peterborough looked sharp upfront and had Kelvin hard at work on a number of occasions, but we just ripped through their defence. Thought Lambert played an important role today despite not scoring, just needs that chance (like Guly....) to get his confidence back. Tuesday's game is HUGE. S-Clarke Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 interesting those saying lambert was poor... the peterborough commentators said he lead the line superbly and was thankfull he went off.... he was much more involved today, winning lots of headers and holding the ball up brilliantly - and a lovely pass for barnards goal. He just isn't getting the breaks in front of the goal atm. But the fact that we can still win 4-1 without Lambo scoring shows the amazing strength of this team
corsacar saint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Could and should have been at least 6,how Guly missed the header[centre of 6 yard box,and easier than the 1 he scored, and the one on one,I am not really sure].If we play like that against Brighton, and do not take our foot off the gas,we should hopefully win. Jaidi was superb,Fonte gave the goal away. For the record I thought Chaplow was the best player on the pitch for the second home game running, also very impressed with Dickson, and Richardson was very good today as well. Give it to Ron Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 interesting those saying lambert was poor... the peterborough commentators said he lead the line superbly and was thankfull he went off.... Compared to last season yes....he won loads more headers today than he has been - still not doing enough at times though. He is not helping himself - Guly flicked the ball up the line and I looked across to see Lambert jogging forward when he should of been busting a gut to get in the box. Its coming though..... Danbert Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Quote from a Posh forum which sums them up for me, we'll have a tougher time of it come Tuesday "Yet again midfield absolutely ******* aweful. We will not go up or even get in the playoffs with this squad, if Darragh is serious about going up this year and staying up, he needs to spend pretty big in Jan and also in the summer. Another clueless display. The fans are owed so so much. Club is an absolute joke, and if we carry on in this fashion we will be fighting to stay up." Liquidshokk Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I can't work gully out. One game he is immense then the next he misses a one on one, takes too much time on the ball and looks asleep a lot of time. Unfortunately it was the latter today but as he got a goal and we know what he's capable of I'll let him off

Hatch Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Played well today, but got to be put into context of how bad Posh were in defence, I know they have already let in about a thousand goals this season, and on todays performance I could see why. astrasri Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Could easily have scored six and the goal was the result of a silly mistake from Jaidi (easily the weakest link in the side and i'd be happy to see him dropped on Tuesday night). He is what he is....when he is turned he's b*ll*xed, but he reads the game so well his positioning is superb and very often takes out the danger before it develops. If we play him regularly (and why not?) we need to have cover when he is in a position where he could be turned. Not rocket science but needs practice. CWD Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I don't really think Guly is a striker. He certainly is not a natural goalscorer. He's a hard one to make out but I think his best role is behind a hard working striker, or 'in the hole' behind two. Someone a few weeks back called him a luxury player which he is, in that he has a lot of talent but we can't really rely on him in any situation! saintds Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Loved every minute of it today. Two marauding full backs, rock solid in the middle, hassling and harrying without the ball, attacking with pace with it. And NA says there's more to come! Lambo has got to start firing soon, surely? Other than that, fantastic to a man today. And to think that I said to my fellow STHs before the game that I had a nasty feeling about today. Benj Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Excellent performance all round. Only negative from my point of view is Guly. Surely I can't be the only one wondering how this guy gets a game all the time? He holds the ball for way too long, doesn't see passes, can't beat anyone, and seems to lose possession really easily. Apart from that we were superb. Another game of totally bossing the midfield whilst Barnard and Lambert caused all sorts of problems for their defence. Appy Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 Lamberts link up play was alot better today, he gets into the positions but sometimes people just don't see the pass or its just taken off his head. All he needs is a little bit of the rub of the green and the goals will start flowing. Same 11 for tuesday, Richardson and Dickson were excellent today. Saints foreva Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 We're playing two big games in 4 days, I would say that was a "have to" situation. Lambert was the worst player in the side today. Thought he was decent, won lots of headers - just needs some confidence to take a shot every now and again. Kelvin was very poor for me today, came for crosses he had no right to go for and we were very lucky to get away with that.

Tractor_Saint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 My first attempt at doing the scores on the doors so don't shoot me down too much! Davis - 6 - Didn't really have much to do. Fluffed an aerial ball in the 2nd half which he shouldn't have had a go at and also a couple of saves to his left which he couldn't keep hold of. However, shouted well at the defence at times Richardson - 8 - Solid performance - nuff said Fonte - 8 - Consistent. Great goal, won nearly all his headers but occasionally was found wanting when clearing the ball from deep Jaidi - 5 - Really worried about him. A big player, good in the air but you'd always bet against him if there's the opposition have it on the floor Dickson - 7 - few stray balls here and there but overall a good performance Hammond - 7 - quite instrumental in a lot of the build ups, played like a captain today Lallana - 9 - OK, he didn't score but he chased everything. At the end of the first half the crowd appreciated him chasing about 4-5 Posh players down, won the ball in the end and then we nearly scored. Tireless chasing - more more more, why doesn't it rub off on the other players Chamberlain - 7 - Couple of great moves, blink and you'll miss him skin players in the first half and storm to the byline. 2nd half was a bit quiet as I think Posh understood how to handle him - they put a couple of players on him Chaplow - 7 - Really don't usually rate Chaplow so for me to give him a 7 he must have played well! Still don't think he has the tight ball skills to make it for SFC. Too many wayward passes Lambert - 6 - Good set piece at a free kick when you thought he was going to nail it top corner - we nearly scored from that. But didn't really set the game alight Bardnard - 8 - Loved seeing him staying high up the field and pouncing on loose balls. Great goal and he kept working it for the match. Subs Gully - 7 - Should have gone the other side for the 1 on 1 with the keeper to take a brace but held defenders off when in possession - looks good for the future Holmes - 8 - Nice to see him back on and he wanted it and wanted to make his mark. Times he should have had a go himself rather than pass near goal. Confidence will come and he'll be a real asset Connolly - not going to mark - came on in 81st minute. And for Christophe behind me in our ST seats - 10/10 for having 20/1 on Fonte to score and also a bet slip for the final result to be 4-1. Never laughed so much in my life when they held up five minutes added on - he was apoplectic

Roger Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 that was one of the easiest games of the season, the full backs where superb - especially dickson - and Chaplow totally bossed the midfield. Again Oxo was superb and barney worked his socks off too. Would be interesting to see what the Posh fans thought since i thought they were surprisingly poor, and we really walked through their midfield. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 My ratings for Saints v Posh (4-1) K Davis 7.5 - Great early save set up today's win very nicely. No chance with their goal. F Richardson 7 - Good player, perhaps offering rather more of a physical presence than Butterfield J Fonte 6.5 - Scored, but can struggle when up against pacy & strong forwards - as he was today. R Jaidi 6 - Good in the air & his stamina has definitely improved. Still as slow as a slow thing in all honesty. R Dickson 6.5 - I thought he did pretty well, but is he really any better than Harding ? A Chamberlain 7 - A few errors (as you'd expect) but there's so much ability here he's well worth his place. R Chaplow 7.5 - Got his goal & a proper midfield tiger. Very nearly my MOTM today. D Hammond 7 - Combative as usual and forming a good partnership with Chappers. Set up our 3rd goal. A Lallana 8 MOTM - All the class we've come to expect, but more than that he's starting to lead (& lift) the team by example now - a future captain. L Barnard 6.5 - Industrious as ever & his near unstoppable first goal may have been vital today. Off injured I presume. R Lambert 5 - Did his 'target man' job well enough, but doesn't even look like scoring anytime soon. Substitutes: Guly 7.5 - Scored again & very lively, this player can accelerate faster than a 911. The less said about that late miss the better ! D Holmes 6.5 - On for oxo, he still has plenty to offer at this level I feel - if he stays fit. D Connolly - late sub for Lambert. Conclusions. A well deserved victory against decent opposition. It's hard to critise a team that wins this well, although I must say Radhi Jaidi would get no closer to the action than the subs bench if it were my call. We're clearly not a 'one man team' because it's manifestly obvious we can now play around Ricky Lambert's mysterious inability to repeat last seasons form. But we won't score four times every game, & when it's tight we will surely need every forward player to contribute properly. Until that happens it seems to me our top two (or even playoff) prospects are by no means guaranteed. ps - heard a 'buzz' in the Chapel that we have a (unnamed) 27 year old German player lined up. Tractor_Saint Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 My ratings for Saints v Posh (4-1) Good summation - we only disagree a bit on Barny and Holmes. Agree with you on Jaidi - can't believe he makes the first team. The 'one man team' comment is a good shout, last year we couldn't see ourselves without being with Rickie but now I'm not bothered if he's on the bench... sidthesquid Posted 20 November, 2010 Share Posted 20 November, 2010 I'd like to put in a word for Dean Hammond, my MoM. When he plays well the whole team plays well & today he kept us moving forward time & again. Special word for Chaplow - nearly MoM, and also our two full-backs who both look to have the strength & pace to cause trouble in this league. Also a word for Jaidi, who I am not a big fan of usually, but was excellent against two nippy little strikers, & Holmes who looked very impressive again today. If only he could stay fit for more than one week in four....
