Crowd for Brighton game

Posts 51 and 52 seem to be contradictory then.

Now from my experience the "I asked the girl how many had been sold and she told me....." posts always tend to be at least 1000 over the odds for even the final crowd numbers. So I'd say that we'll probably get a maximum of 25K tomorrow and for a Tuesday game at the end of November that's a good score.

Probably about right unless loads go down there tonight after work or there is a big walk up and you all big the game up to your mates. For a Tuesday game in November in the Third Division it a ***** good score. I reckon it'll be a bit over 25k though, or maybe I'm just an optimist..

I'm pretty sure they don't sell them in West Quay anymore. Not 100% but I think I tried to get a cup ticket a while ago and had to go to the stadium.

oh, sorry mate. Somebody mentioned quite recently they had got their tickets in westquay, for some reason I thought it was a thread you started.

and cheers For Heavens Saint, guess I'll have to get to the stadium then.

Scotty, it was 'Give it to Ron' who said you could buy them in West Quay.

25000 would be fantastic for this division but i often wonder where the missing 7k are that attended boring mid table clashes in the premiership.

The buzz for this game is much more exciting than i had for bolton/boro at home and we sold them out and extra for their unsold allocation.

How many sold for Hartlepool that will be a trip...

The season we got relegated from the premiership we didn't sell out even games this time of season. This 7000 you mention have long gone but in reality now we have a hardcore of 18000 or so. this figure is not based on average attendance but a general one based on where we are now win or lose.

Rubbish!

The games "this time of the season" from 2004/05...

Saints vs Portsmouth 13th November 2004 = 30,921

Saints vs Crystal Palace 27th November 2004 = 31,833

Every season at St Mary's in the Premier League Saints averaged over 30k, including the relegation season.

Just looked it up. Crowds were around the 27,000 mark for games against Blackburn, Birmingham and Fulham. 28,000 v Man City and 29,000 v Middlesbrough. Think all of those bar the Boro game were on TV to be fair and bar Man City those sides usually brought pretty low away numbers.

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

When in the Prem at SMS we had a lot of "football fans" who went to games just for the fun of watching Premiership football. I knew of at least 10 people myself who did this, and it happens at every club in the country. It's understandable, and they will return when we eventually do.

I'm coming down to Southampton today to go to the match with my Uncle. However he is telling me that because we are not on the database he is unable to get tickets...is this the case? Is there a way round this? Please help because I bought my train ticket etc already!

This is incorrect!! These "football fans" still turn up for pompey derby days?? mk dons semi final?? i think not its part time saints fans... Every club has them, im not knocking them, just find it odd thats all.

I know of two guys who've never went since we left the prem, they're actually Cardiff and Spurs fans but wanted to see the prem games. Period. The fact that it was Saints was irrelevant to them.

I agree with you, although I reckon it'll be nearer 27k come kick-off, but I think we beat ourselves up a bit too easily over the "missing 7k" or so. There's very few clubs that wouldn't see a dramatic dip in attendances dropping a couple of divisions out of the Prem. Leeds and Sheff Wed were capable of over 40k in the Prem but have had league crowds under 15k in this division.

To put it in perspective, Wednesday recently played Huddersfield in a 'local derby' at Hillsborough and got a crowd of 20k, including between 4 and 5,000 Hudders fans who made the 30 mile trip. The same night we played Dagenham & Redbridge, got an almost identical crowd including just a couple of hundred Daggers.

Tonight we'll play a 'local-ish derby' and get 26,000-plus - not bad for the third division!

I bought 2 tickets in the West Quay store on Sat morning for tonights game, not sure on the match day policy though.

On another note I was not asked to prove my customer number and did not pay by card, therefore the club will have no proof that I am on the database (which I am) even though the assistant in the West Quay store had a huge sign in front of her saying "Brighton tickets only on sale to database!"

No, there are definitely a lot of fans who go just to see Prem games. That isn't up for debate really. And yes, they'll also turn up for the odd big game, like the ones you listed above.
