Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I think the lad has plenty to give, and we would be shooting ourselves in the foot, if we do not keep him through this tough patch of bad form he is having. Might not even be bad form, might just be that the systems have changed too much or too suddenly.I don't believe that every player can work with every manager or coach. I'd be a whole lot happier if Dean Wilkins was to leave.A player's talent or ability doesn't suddenly change, his physical condition might but in most cases it's just that the manager's style doesn't suit him. Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 My team selection for Saturday had Punch back in the side....Just goes to show how much I know.. Noticed in training him and Spiderman wearing pink bibs....Is that significant? when today??, bibs means not in the starting XI. It's as good a guide as leftback's team news. Sheff Saint Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Spot on. Puncheon will join a long list of players not rated by Saints fans on here who go on to play regularly at a higher level proving they are not crap. Jones Fuller Blackstock Ormerod Crainey Cranie Higgingbotham Telfer McGoldrick Davies Delap Baird Mills Williamson Rasiak Best Euell Not fair. Just because I didn't think Danny Higgingbotham was good enough for first choice centreback in the Prem in 2005 doesn't mean I'd not want him in the team now! You're comparing Apples and Pears with that list and inferring they were hounded out of town.
Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Why this sudden anti Wilkins feeling? No one moaned about him when Pardew was here. I did, quite a few times. To me his methods look staid and basic and I think he has nothing to offer a side looking to move up in the hierarchy.I'd say he's out of his depth with us but it's a personal opinion. for_heaven's_Saint Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I don't particularly have an opinion on Wilkins, but I do find it bizarre that he is still here when the rest of Pardew's team went with him.
Nutwood2 Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Never rated him. Got a lot of flak from people after the Bristol Rovers game when I said he 'flatters to deceive'. He certainly has some sort of ability but I don't know exactly what it is. He would certainly frustrate me as a manager. I'd feel like giving him a firm boot up the backside and telling him to take the game by the scruff of the neck......but he never does! Reminds me a bit of John Barnes whilst playing for England. Very very frustrating and ultimately, given loads of opportunities, only produces the goods on those rare occassions!
Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I thought AP chose the coaches and brought them in with him, including Wally downes who had a reasonable reputation. But Downes is no longer here, defensive specialist anyway,Downes was the assistant manager. Wilkins is the first team coach.

Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 It's a big "meh" from me if Puncheon goes. Good player, but rarely shows it. Has more bad games than good in my opinion. cleaned up his act since he's been with us though, hardly a card in sight, got shedloads at MK Dons. I do sometimes wonder if this isn't some sort of club policy or other to come down really hard on players who get a few cards. To get the number of cards that he did at MK must mean he had a bit of an aggressive nature and now he doesn't seem to have it anymore (or that he's got better at tackling). As Malcolm Allison once said you can coach all the talent out of footballers as well.

eelpie Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 It will be very sad if he leaves because he isn't thought good enough for us by SFC (and our retards in the stands) yet wanted by a higher league club. What a topsy turvy lot of fans and club we are! We're also going to have to hope that our better players like Adam and Oxo aren't taken from us in January too. We'll be a much lesser team. I really hope that we achieve good results before the New Year so that we can convince them that we have an excellent likelihood of promotion this season. We have everything to play for, and much to lose. Be firm and positive Nigel. Be positive everyone.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 The ones that boo him are generally the ones that dont have a clue about football. The ones that think the only good players are the ones that charge around at 10000 MPH jumping into tackles showing their commitment. He hasn't been on the best of form this season and TBH felt AC deserves his place ahead of him at the moment, however but he is very skillful and creative and weighed in with a few goals and plenty of assists lasr season. The problem with him is is that as a creative player when through ball or run comes to nothnig it makes him look bad, if he found the target with every throughball and beat his man every time he wouldn't be playing in league one. He is clearly a confidence player and needs to be managed properly, as Ince did and MK Dons and Pardew seemed to be doing. Spot on Turks, been saying the same thing for a long time. Window Cleaner Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 (edited) Really? All I can remember of the Wilkins era WAS moaning! Awful awful manager not a clue! still first team coach though. NA should have insisted that he was shown the door and brought his own man in. Oh right he got the managers job at Scunnthorpe. What I'll say to you all is remember Glynn Snodin, first team coach is a vital role and if you get it wrong disaster is always waiting round the bend. Nexstar Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Would be surprised by this, but not altogether upset. Puncheon has been inconsistent for us and doesn't appear to have a very good attitude (thinking back to Markus' funeral). If he does go I think it's safe to assume he'll be replaced with someone who has cost a reasonable sum and will (hopefully) be a more consistent performer for the side. derry Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 One of the problems Puncheon has, he is naturally left sided and whilst last season he went for the byeline, this season he is checking back. AO-C is naturally right sided and is getting to the byeline and scoring goals. Puncheon has no chance of getting back at the moment and if as has been said there has been a fall out, (I heard there was a bust up after his last substitution and subsequent dropping) it would not be a surprise if he, along with a few others, is used to bring in other players to alter the make up and quality of the team. Hopkins Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 to me AP was undermined by his coaching staff. Good manager but coaches totally lacking in ideas beyond 3rd division football. Do you have anything to back that up or is it just a sweeping statement made in an attempt to sound like you know what your on about? Seriously, anything to present that shows AP being undermined by his coaching staff, or anything to show that the coaches lack ideas beyond 3rd division football (which just so you know is exactly where we are).? You worked with them? You been in and amongst there coaching sessions, tactical and coaching meetings? You picked any of the brains involved? You surely must have something to come to a conclusion like that....
captainchris Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Well it least it'll shut up the retard next to me at SMS who seems to go along for no reason other than to be smug when puncheon makes a mistake [in his eyes]. As i've said before though i think he actually does a really good job for us, you only need to look at the fact that he's always in the right place to be noticeable, that he scares the opposition with his runs (taking away markers) and that he does actually challenge for the ball. Good luck to him if he does step up, i really think he could do a decent job at a higher level. Really do not agree with you on that post. Punch has been poor this year - flatters to deceive and has contributed very little that actually affects a game. He also day dreams - standing still when team mates are looking for movement from him.......I've watched him closely this year and he's not good enough for our level....Millwall are very welcome to him - we can get better players in than that........... Thanks for informing me Hypochondriac, I was unaware of this until now. It get worse... He also had jeans and a white shirt on. The rest of the team had full suits, ties etc, even Alex Oxlade. Hands in pockets as said and just walking like he didnt care. Also... my younger sister and I waited around after a game, got the teams autographs and that, when we asked him, he didnt even say hello back, and my sister went to hand him the pen and it poked him in the finger. Never seen someone look at a 7 year girl for something petty like that, you would think she just stabbed him. Complete ****

NickG Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 he is more creative than most - but when it doesn't work he gives the ball away and is noticed - ont one to play a safe pass - but the most likely to set up a goal.

Complete **** Obviously know nothing about the second story, but I can tell you he wasn't wearing jeans and a white shirt. There is a video I saw on youtube of the players arriving at the ceremony and he is wearing black trousers and a black shirt - yes, his hands were in his pockets, but in all fairness there isn't much else he could have done with them.
