dune Posted 19 November, 2010 Posted 19 November, 2010 It's great news that david cameron has personally stepped in and promised us an extra bank holiday for the Royal wedding. Also there will be another bank holiday for the golden jubilee in 2012. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1331117/Prince-William-Kate-Middleton-engagement-Cameron-promises-bank-holiday.html

Also there will be another bank holiday for the golden jubilee in 2012. Well the first one will hopefully have nice weather, so a walk in the Lake District will go down well, and as for the second, here's hoping, because it will mean Chuck is still on the sidelines.

Also there will be another bank holiday for the golden jubilee in 2012. Yet again Cameron proves his anti-business credentials. When will people wake up to the damage that this Marxist and his lefty backers are inflicting on this once great and proud country.
Thedelldays Posted 20 November, 2010 Posted 20 November, 2010 lol at the people saying he is pointless and how this new pushes the "greater news" to the back... so they realise how much money people like wills brings into god knows how many charities..? how much business they bring in simply by walking through a village//town/city..? how much does wills cost each tax payer..? about 7p a year..? if you look at it as an investment in charity...then it is amazing value for money just look at charlies visit to cornwall the other day...he brought business men with him to invest/help the local area which im sure they did.....how much money/business did the local socialists/republican help bring in..?

Well if she already knows she's going to have cash flow problems and she needs a loan then sounds like the business is doomed anyway
Thedelldays Posted 20 November, 2010 Posted 20 November, 2010 Well if she already knows she's going to have cash flow problems and she needs a loan then sounds like the business is doomed anyway how could she predict her shop would be drowned in a flood like that..?

Islander Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 So it's Friday 29th April - 2 long weekends in a row for everyone as it's Easter the weekend before and Bank Holiday Monday on the 2nd May!!

buctootim Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 Not for shift workers, it isn't How do you manage to turn almost every bit of good news into a negative?
trousers Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 How do you manage to turn almost every bit of good news into a negative? It's the socialist way....everyone should be as miserable as everyone else....I think that's how it's supposed to work anyway.... *large wink*
bridge too far Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 How do you manage to turn almost every bit of good news into a negative? Oh for goodness sake, you silly old woman. How on earth is pointing out that some people won't be getting time off considered negative. It's neither negative or positive - it's just a fact And, silly old woman 2 - Trousers - it's not 'socialist' or wishing everyone to be miserable either. It's just a fact. And, no doubt if you were to be taken ill on that day, you'll be relieved that some people do work shifts. Grow up, the pair of you.
Islander Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 Ok - sorry - I should have said 'the majority' not 'everyone'. For those who work in the vital services etc we are very grateful and I hope you all enjoy your lieu day when you get it. (Is that better?)

It makes your posts as predictable and as single track as Dune's. However, the important difference is that my 'it's not fair for someone angle' is out of concern for others. Dune's single track comments broadly are out of concern for himself. I'm not going to apologise for highlighting the often unthought of effects of things.

Given your views on the Royals and your determination not to celebrate with "The Rest Of The Lemmings", it would be a tad hypocritical to celebrate the bank holiday, so I am surprised you are disappointed, I assumed you would want to work out of principal. I still havent got the hang of this socialist lark

I still havent got the hang of this socialist lark Where did I say that I was disappointed for myself? I don't know yet whether Mr TF will be working - next year's shift patterns aren't known yet. Since I'm retired, it makes no difference to me whether it's a bank holiday or not. FFS I just said that some people would have to work.
Gemmel Posted 23 November, 2010 Author Posted 23 November, 2010 (edited) No btf you put a sad dispointed face that you had to work.....I.e you are disappointed. I read it the way you meant it, as did others, hence the comments. Try wriggling out, but this lemming smells hypocrisy. You either stand by your principals or not....... Unlike most socialists who change them depending on the weather. You made me laugh if nothing else. Edited 23 November, 2010 by Gemmel

FFS I just said that some people would have to work. So? They get time off in lieu, and quite posibly additional pay for working a bank holiday - ie everyone benefits. The ability to see a cloud to every silver lining really isnt an asset, no matter if it is wrapped up as concern for everyone else.

Unlike most socialists who change them depending on the weather. You made me laugh if nothing else. But, my love, I DON'T work - I retired about 6 months ago (as you would have realised if you'd actually read what I'd written instead of making assumptions). So I wasn't talking about myself at all. Mr TF MIGHT have to work, but it won't bother him. However, some people who will have to do shift work MIGHT be disappointed they won't be able to celebrate the nuptials. THAT is the point I was making.

The ability to see a cloud to every silver lining really isnt an asset, no matter if it is wrapped up as concern for everyone else. See how little you know If most shift workers are paid as Mr TF is, they won't get time off in lieu or additional pay. He gets paid a shift allowance (for unsocial hours) and that's it. Nothing extra for bank holidays. The only BHs he is guaranteed to have off are Christmas / Boxing Day and New Year's day. All others form part of the shift pattern.
Dimond Geezer Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 (edited) Excellent news. The first part of my prophecy has come true. Now if Liz can hang around for another 3 years........ I not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but this is fantastic news, we will get an extra day off next year, then one in 2012 for the diamond jubilee, another in 2013 for Lizzies funeral, another in 2014 for Charlies coronation, one in 2015 for Charlies funeral etc etc. Edited 23 November, 2010 by Dimond Geezer Can't count

The responses might go some way as to how you posts come across on here.....not everything is doom and gloom. But my apologies for mis-interpreting
Mao Cap Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 29th April is a cracking date, will set everyone up nicely for seeing us seal promotion at Brentford away Still, to return to an earlier issue a bank holiday would probably cost the economy quite a bit more than the (estimated £620m) it would gain from tourism and selling mugs and that. About £6bn a mate who works for Fidelity says (though I'm sceptical as I've no idea how accurate that figure is...us lefties leave taking pub anecdotes as gospel to our conservative brothers ) That said I'm not knocking it, we get a sh*te amount of bank holidays in Britain anyway so let the good times roll.
bridge too far Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 This is an additional holiday. Read his contract It will form part of his entitlement to the minimum number of days holiday a year (28 days a year) http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Timeoffandholidays/DG_10029788 "bank and public holidays can be included in your minimum entitlement "

Gemmel Posted 23 November, 2010 Author Posted 23 November, 2010 ... Not quite sure i follow, "No" was the answer to your question. Some examples of positive "No" Is the world going to end in ten minutes........ Are you feeling suicidal........... Is a nuclear missle just about to hit us...... Are labour in goverment .........:lol:
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 Not for shift workers, it isn't and all that Bank Holiday Traffic to contend with now BTF. You will have to cancel your driving round and round plans!
bridge too far Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 and all that Bank Holiday Traffic to contend with now BTF. You will have to cancel your driving round and round plans! Nah - there won't be any traffic to speak of. They'll all be watching the wedding
thefunkygibbons Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 And the Royal Family and the Middletons are going to pay for all aspects of the wedding, leaving the taxpyer to fund the security More than reasonable, I'd say
