Mate, it's a tactic that's been used to good effect ever since there was rulers and ruled! Bread and circuses, Juvenal called it.

 

The main non-photographer one was 3,000 coppers in Manchester getting laid off, which is around a quarter of the workforce I believe (frontline services and that). Results came out saying inflation is unexpectedly high at 3.2%, and MI5 and MI6 are in some sort of grief about Guantanamo Bay and torture which is quite embarrassing and likely to cost them a fair bit. And it's also stifled existing coverage of the appalling scrapping of legal aid (worst act of class war they've carried out yet, along with the housing benefit thing) for a few days. Oh and the worrying Ireland/general eurozone crisis has been forgotten, although to be fair that's got a lot of coverage because it's good for an anti-Europe pop, hopefully everyone will have forgotten Osborne's high praise of the Irish government's methods not very long ago.

 

Fair bit for a quiet Tuesday in November, anyway.

I really really hope everyone has street parties. I was too young to appreciate what was going on in 1981. I tell you one thing, Revolution Saint will be having the biggest party in Soton. There'll be more bunting than you can shake a stick at! I bet he's planning it as I speak...

 

Oh, where and when can I start buying some commemorative tat? I'm sure the NOTW magazine will start selling some tacky plates - they'll be worth a fortune in years to come.

 

I am indeed pleased about this - it's another chance to get all the royals together in one place.

Far less than the amount of revenue having a Royal family generates for the economy. The yanks will come in their droves for the wedding, and it'll give the UK huge exposure.

 

I hope they realise that unlike the recent NFL match it won't be held at a 90,000 seat stadium.

But it similarly doesn't lead to communism. Some of the Rabid Right on here don't seem to understand exactly what a 'Constitutional Monarchy' actually means, nor how completely insignificant to most people's daily existence the Royals are.

Don't come to the USA to escape it. It was the main story on the news last night.

 

Though it is quite funny watching it from the American angle. The funniest part was when when Prince Charles was given subtitles (they often subtitle a news story if it is a Scottish, or Indian or whoever with a bit of an accent - but Prince f#### Charles??? - that was funny....)

 

Anyway - time to play 'Better Dead Than Wed' a few more times. Surely a new version of this classic 80's tune will get released?

I quite like Wills and Harry as they seem a bit more down to earth than the older royals.

 

She may have had her faults, but IMO Di did a pretty good job of keeping them grounded.

 

Others will no doubt disagree, but I couldn't give a shiny she-ite.

I only offer the suggestion because in a couple of years time when I scale down my work I might be looking for a new challenge. You know the sort of thing... 'I have never sought public office but if my country were to call for my assistance I might find it difficult to refuse....'.

 

I'm ok with a monarchy in itself, it's a lot cheaper than a republic what with all those elections and campaigning. Just think of the words 'President John Prescott, or 'President Boris Johnson' and see how you feel. It's all the royal hangers-on that annoy me.

It is getting a tad nauseating with the constant comparisons being made to the bloody Diana engagement all over the media.

Shes dead,move on.

Big balls up using Dianas engagement ring,this will only serve to perpetuate the bloody Diana comparisons.

 

Will's, i know it was your mother but this move makes me more inclined to think you want comparisons to be made between Kate and Diana.

If i was Kate this would not sit comfortably with me either.

What do you all you royalist traditionalists make of them living in sin before their wedding? If you want it that way surely she should be a virgin on her wedding day and still living with her parents. If she is wearing white is scandelous.

why bother with dune hes a marxist has he supports the socialist royal family with their taxpayers hand outs instead of privatiseing them and then puts down the republican usa land of the free:)
