Swindon are unlikely to accept less than £2 million apparently.

 

Not worth it.

 

I'm sure Portsmouth won't mind shelling out a couple of mill once they've secured themselves another tax break.

Anyone remember after Swindon beat us earlier in the season, Nicola Cortese came out and said "Charlie Austin should've been playing for us" in a criticism of us not having a proper local scouting network at the time.

Are we getting rid of loads of cheap people to get in a couple of better cheap people then? Guess we'll see, but it goes along with the summer's signings. Really seems doubtful that we have much at all to spend so can't imagine we'd get Austin. Of course, this squad should be more than enough to get up, but it's worrying if there's no money anymore.

 

Who says there's no money anymore, NA hasn't had a chance to spend any yet, lets see what happens in January then we can gauge what money we may or may not have.

well until leftback tells us so it's obviously not true. See the very righteous and politically correct saintslist are on his case now. Traitor is the word being used, blaming him for the Carlisle defeat by posting the team.As I said on Friday you only have to look at the blue bibs on the video to see who's not playing and who is.Noticed it weeks ago.

Ummm, it was in response to a post on the Daily Echo website, someone on there posted it first.

 

And remember years ago Andy Mintram got a call from the club because he "gave away" some team tactics after watching a training match!!

Cortese said after the Tranmere match that there was money for Pardew in the Summer to spend, but a couple of deals didn't work out. He also said that funds will be available in January for Adkins.

This transfer window coming up is probably one of the most important ever! We must ensure we get the right men. We have had too many "****" players turn out for SFC recently. Get it right NA and NC.

Would find it very difficult to support him if he did sign for us, know the bloke and really not the most pleasant person you're ever likely to meet, but if he's banging in goals I'll be caught in two minds.

So what we really should do know is start a "Who's going out the revolving door in January?" I can't 'cos I'm a miserly sod who doesn't put a £5 in the kitty

 

2-1, Dixon will be the first out, Barnard 11-2 in second place, Butterfield third at 7-1

I love Rickie but fear he's lost it and may be sold. Look at the performances that Adkins has seen him put in and would you be convinced?

 

Adkins building a side to get us out of this league.....sell your star striker who isn't on form at the moment, sounds a wonderful idea to me. Adkins knows Rickie is a good player, I really can't believe some people on this forum. Unbelievable.

I said if. There doesn't seem to be, unless they've been holding it back. We haven't done much in the loan market, haven't loaned anyone that would be that expensive. The Waigo loan indicated a bit of money as he was coming from a very big club and wasn't a youngster. Chaplow is a good signing, but a cheap one. We shouldn't spend for the sake of it, but if there was money to say, spend 1m on someone, I'd have thought we'd have done it. Another striker and midfielder would have made a huge difference. Signings in the Fonte bracket will always be a huge boost to a team at this level. When we signed him, it seemed we had big money and appeal. I hope it's still there and we sign someone like Austin to prove it. Maybe LeFondre. But I have a horrible feeling it'll be more loans and cheap signings. Unless Puncheon and Lambert move of course bringing in some money.

Guly was signed from a club going into Serie A.

Butterfield was signed from a club in a higher division.

Richardson was signed from one of the "big" recently relegated clubs in our division and would've been on top League One or Championship wages.

Dickson was signed for about half a million.

 

I see no evidence thay we aren't willing to sign players like Fonte anymore but it's not easy getting players to drop down a level unless you are prepared to spunk silly money like Notts County did and I think most of us would hope we don't go down the route of offering the likes of Casper Schmeichel £20k a week (or whatever it was). Most League One players are not worth £1m, which is why we haven't been spending that sort of money on players.

It's not money that gets you out of this division, it's being organised.

What is it with Austin? Comes across well in interviews and seems alright, but it seems a couple of users on here dislike him and probably have reason to? What is he really like and for what reasons do people dislike him.?

It's not money that gets you out of this division, it's being organised.

 

Exactly. Good management can get you into the middle of the Premiership; you don't need world beaters (viz Stoke, Blackpool, West Brom, us when we were good). It helps if you can sign players of proven quality along the way but there's no point if you don't have a unified group with a strong leader and a direction that everyone has bought into.

Organising a return to last season's form for our star striker is what is needed. What is not needed is spending £2m on a new striker.

I live in Swindon and all the Town supporters I know say he is a twonk too! So there is a bit of smoke about that fire no doubt. Having said that if you want to get on in the competitive world of professional football you've got to be hard-nosed, a bit of cheat and think the sun shines out of your backside - otherwise you probably won't make it.

 

I happened to see Swindon play on Saturday (free tickets I don't pay) and Austen scored a good goal from a great move (perhaps the keeper should have saved it) and made the other goal. He works very hard throughout the match and if he had better support about him he'd been even more of a threat.

 

I think if he left them (I reckon he will) he'll go to a higher division club.
