St Chalet Posted 15 November, 2010 Posted 15 November, 2010 Not sure what the site will do regarding an area for this but for now this can do as a placeholder. This has to be the best chance England has had to win on Aussie soil. We seem to have a batting line-up where 1 or 2 fire on most occasions, the best spinner in world cricket and a winning mentality. What could go wrong? Has McGrath made his traditional 5-0 prediction yet, then I'll know it's game on.
Saint Paul C Posted 15 November, 2010 Posted 15 November, 2010 The build up here in Aus to the forthcoming series is quite muted - much more so than the last series in the UK. I think that the Aussies are genuinely worried that they wont win and despite the so far feeble attempts to wind-up the English team there has been little or no reaction which is great.. Really looking forward to the first test in Brisbane - I'm there on day 3..
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 16 November, 2010 Posted 16 November, 2010 My main worry is England's batsmen scoring enough runs. Think the bowling is ok but we wont get away with low scoring first innings like this summer against Pakistan. Just hope Strauss continues his good form as the likes of Bell and Cook have poor records against the Aussies. Hopefully Collingwood and KP will come good when it really matters as well. Not sure about Trott, he definatley has the bottle as proved in scoring a hundred on debut in the Ashes last test but struggled on tour in south africa.
fish fingers Posted 16 November, 2010 Posted 16 November, 2010 Got next Thursday and Friday booked off work so ready for a couple of all-nighters. Cook needs to perform, him and Strauss scoring big is a must.
Hatch Posted 16 November, 2010 Posted 16 November, 2010 Got next Thursday and Friday booked off work so ready for a couple of all-nighters. Ditto. Can't wait. Also it only seems like yesterday that the last series finished.
Appy Posted 16 November, 2010 Posted 16 November, 2010 As much as i want us to win, i just can't see the batsmen performing. KP really needs to hit form.
Dr Who? Posted 16 November, 2010 Posted 16 November, 2010 I really do think we are going to win the Ashes on their own doorstep. It will be close but we have such a great chance. 2-3 or 1-2 with a couple of draws. having said that I can see a 2-2 with one draw!
DS Posted 22 November, 2010 Posted 22 November, 2010 I really do think we are going to win the Ashes on their own doorstep. +1. I think we've got a great chance. Going to be pulling quite a few all nighters over the next few weeks. Wish I could be out there but bank manager says no!
The Cat Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 I'm getting so excited about the Ashes and the fact we're gonna win that I find a little bit of wee leaking out on a regular basis.
skintsaint Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 I would luv it if we beat 'em!! Not sure we will, reckon a draw which would be ok...ish
Saint Keith Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 by a tragic coincidence, i have managed to be working from home thursday friday and monday
Hatch Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 by a tragic coincidence, i have managed to be working from home thursday friday and monday and I have all day out of office meetings. Extraordinary!
LGTL Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 I'm an unemployed arse and have the next few months off....Perfect!! Some all-nighters on the cards, and most definately looking forward to it.
Huffton Posted 23 November, 2010 Posted 23 November, 2010 Ooh Sir, taxi driver sir? Working nights? TMS? Sky player on the iPhone? Ohh, suits you sir!
dubai_phil Posted 24 November, 2010 Posted 24 November, 2010 Lol - as I may have mentioned a throusand times I'm working hard at the DWC golf this week. European Tour weren't impressed when the 400 volunteer Marshalls had a vote and asked if the TV's in the Marshalls Lounge could be retuned from the Golf Channel to the Test Match for the first 4 hours of each day. For the gamblers if bothered Kaymer v McDowell on the course - GMac will shade it. To win the tournie W******d, or Poults are up for it. Outside each way bet Harrington or a Molinari. McIlroy wasn't quite firing on all cylinders yesterday in the warm up but still a chance
Wilko Posted 24 November, 2010 Posted 24 November, 2010 Can somebody give me a reliable web stream? I know, I should stop being a chav and get Sky, but I can't afford it. Boo hoo.
fish fingers Posted 24 November, 2010 Posted 24 November, 2010 Can somebody give me a reliable web stream? I know, I should stop being a chav and get Sky, but I can't afford it. Boo hoo. Give me a tenner and i'll give you hour by hour photos of me watching it on sky.
fish fingers Posted 24 November, 2010 Posted 24 November, 2010 Eng win toss and will bat first. I think/hope this is a good decision.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Balls I thought to myself, i'll stay up for the first over. And there it is. Optimism removed.
St Chalet Posted 25 November, 2010 Author Posted 25 November, 2010 Oh dear. At least our demise only started third ball this time around.
OttawaSaint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 what a bottler, 3 bowl and he's gone...
jawillwill Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I'm staying up until we've got 5 runs. Any bets on what time I'll be here til?
fish fingers Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I'm staying up until we've got 5 runs. Any bets on what time I'll be here til? Now that Trott is in i'd say about 2am
St Chalet Posted 25 November, 2010 Author Posted 25 November, 2010 I'm staying up until we've got 5 runs. Any bets on what time I'll be here til? £20 on 00:13
OttawaSaint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 stay up for 50 runs! easy for me to say, it's only 7:15 here...
Turkish Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I'm staying up until lunch, Trott is looking okay. Strauss, what a knob!
Appy Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I'm staying up until lunch, Trott is looking okay. Strauss, what a knob! Was looking ok. Time for KP to stand up ..... i hope.
fish fingers Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Shame to be 4 down by tea. Hopeful that Bell and Cook can bat out the day.
manji Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Shame to be 4 down by tea. Hopeful that Bell and Cook can bat out the day. Doh !
Jimmy_D Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 dammit, it'll be an achievement just to scrape 250 from here... then again, maybe we'll be able to bowl just as well.
Jimmy_D Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Acheivement Unlocked... next we need to sneak up to 260...
itchen_dan Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 We have managed to hit 250! As youve said, if Australia can do this much damage with the ball then so can we!
Jimmy_D Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 260 probably about the minimum we can get away with and stay competititve, the tail did well to scrape up to there. Gonna be tough now but at least we've given ourselves a chance for the rest of the match. I'm looking forward to seeing how well our bowlers can do with the ball already swinging.
georgeweahscousin Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Typical English start. Fair play to Siddle, great bowling. Didn't the convicts not want him in the team?
alpine_saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I see we've thrown the Ashes away on the first day again...
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I see we've thrown the Ashes away on the first day again... Yep, the first day of the first test...it's all over.
trousers Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 Yep, the first day of the first test...it's all over. Yep, Alpine is being as reactionary and irrational as those saying the coalition is doomed for failure after the first few months of a 5 year parliament ;-) (yes, I know Alps was being Tongue-in-cheek...probably...as am I....probably...) ;-)
keithd Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I see we've thrown the Ashes away on the first day again... stick to moaning about football not a good start/first day but will reserve judgement until we've had a days bowling on it. keep them to below 300, fantastic. below 320, excellent, below 350...hmmm etc etc
Turkish Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I see we've thrown the Ashes away on the first day again... So it's not just football that makes you ultra negative then!
alpine_saint Posted 25 November, 2010 Posted 25 November, 2010 I suggest you all look at what happened in the last Ashes series down-under before you accuse me of being negative. This is an Australian team down on its luck, on a pretty big losing streak, with problems in its camp and universally dismissed as the weakest Ashes team in decades. And we've handed the entire initiative and momentum to them in one day. No chance will we get it back. The Aussies have got their tails up again now, and the result of this series will be the same as the last down-under : 5-0.
