ecuk268 Posted 14 November, 2010 Share Posted 14 November, 2010 As the pirates picked up about £600000 in ransom money, they'll obviously keep doing it.

bridge too far Posted 14 November, 2010 Share Posted 14 November, 2010 I'd like to know who payed the randsom Are you subtly suggesting it was paid in South African money or could it be that you just can't spell?

I can't believe how long they were held for. They were taken while I myself was on holiday in Majorca, good to see them released and not looking to bad after suffereing such an ordeal. Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 November, 2010 Share Posted 15 November, 2010 What an amazing co-incidence. I perhaps should have added that time flies, it certainly doesn't feel over a year ago since I went on that holiday.

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 November, 2010 Share Posted 15 November, 2010 Bet thats not what the Chandlers say about theirs. I actually laughed out loud to this. On a serious note though, the news that Paul Chandler didn't even know his old man had died is terrible. Must be torture for him at the moment; being so happy on release and then being told that news!
franny Posted 15 November, 2010 Share Posted 15 November, 2010 What is interesting is the response of the Somali community in this country. I for one had grumbled to my wife about the treatment of the Chandlers and contrasted it to the safe haven/opportunities extended to the Somali's in this country and said they should be doing more and should feel ashamed. I was very pleasantly surprised (and I have to say felt a little guilty of my earlier thoughts) when I saw that the Somail community here and indeed in the town where the Chandlers were held have we are told contributed to the ransom paid. On the TV (and yes I know these can be selective in their slant) in an interview young Somali's and teachers talked of their embarassment of the episode and how it demonstrated a lack of respect for the "people over 50" (since I am in that group I admire that view!) as well as being a slap in the face for the country that had been kind to them. I know it is another thread but if the muslim comminity on this country are as opposed to the extremism as some say they could also do themselves some big favours by being more vociferous and demonstrative about that opposition, it would do a lot to for their standing in peoples eyes. Saint Mikey Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Whilst it is good news they are free. They were absolutely fookin' stupid or mental to be where they were. It has been well documented for years how bad it is there. Mental.
