jampot Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 I have to go to Bristol from Salisbury on Tuesday evening (5pm) and it always seems to be a pig of a drive. Any advice on how not to get caught up in traffic etc. Will be coming back late that evening too. Should I take the same route back?
teamsaint Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 do that route a fair bit. There is NO good route to brizzle...how bad the route is depends on which area of Briz you are going to...........where you to...??

teamsaint Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 had a look, and I think Bath is the only realistic route there. shouldn't be too bad after 6, and will be fine coming back .
Amesbury Saint Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 I always take the Devizes Road, cut across to Send, A350 to Chippenham to M4. M32 into Bristol.
benjii Posted 13 November, 2010 Share Posted 13 November, 2010 I go A36 then turn off at a village called Woolverton. That takes you through some proper little villages but I think it's quicker than Devizes or into Bath. If it's rush hour you will always get stuck approaching Bristol anyway though. teamsaint Posted 14 November, 2010 Share Posted 14 November, 2010 another route that I use os to go towards chippenham, but then to go lacock Corsham A46 to M4 and then M32. It usually avoids any problems(not if the M4 is snarled up obviously). But its not all that quick

Then cut through Radstock and into Bristol on A37, great if you're coming into south Bristol. What part of Brizzle you going to?
Nessy7 Posted 14 November, 2010 Share Posted 14 November, 2010 The Salisbury - Bristol train really isn't bad! Just looked it up and it's 17 quid return!
jampot Posted 14 November, 2010 Author Share Posted 14 November, 2010 Train is good but the last one back is too early...
benjii Posted 15 November, 2010 Share Posted 15 November, 2010 Then cut through Radstock and into Bristol on A37, great if you're coming into south Bristol. What part of Brizzle you going to? You go through Norton St Phillip and some other village and you also go through places like Saltford and Coombe Down. You end up going into Bristol on the Bath Road so it takes you right into the centre. It's not a great route for rush hour (it's a ****e route for rush hour!) but if you're not in a rush you go through some nice little valleys and it's more interesting than the quicker M4/A34 route to Soton. It's also about 30 miles shorter; if you go via the motorway you use half as much petrol again. Like I said, not recommended if you're in a rush or if there's a hurrican blowing as you might get a tree on your bonce.
moon monkey Posted 15 November, 2010 Share Posted 15 November, 2010 The train from Bristol to salisbury is a nightmare, very few carriages and very over crowded, you have been warned
