SAINTS CELEBRATE 125 YEARS at the Mayflower Feb 13th 2011

I think there is far too much being read in to all this by some....when MLT & various cohorts have done shows in the past nobody has dreamt up agendas, rifts...it's all about making money (whether for charity, individuals or whatever cause) by providing entertainment for those who want to buy a ticket. Noone is forced to buy these..there may well be a few of thes events in different formats so you can pick & choose. I quite like Mike Osman & where else can you get a comedic host who is a fervent Saints fan?

I'm happy to wallow in nostalgia, clap & cheer players who have given me huge pleasure in the past, laugh at the anecdotes & probably shed a tear for Legless Bobby Stokes & that goal. This is the recipe for a good evening in my book so I'm going...simples (as Devon people say too often!)

The new shirt is great..good marketing & marking occasions go hand in hand if the person running the club/company/marketing is doing their job properly.

Im looking forward to going. Its a couple of days before my birthday and if they get some good ex players to attend it should be good. Would love to see and hear from Ron Davies.Fingers crossed.

Frankly, who really gives a **** about a 125 year anniversary? What about 120 years? 130? 135? 128?

I agree. To pretend it was some kind of generous donation because of how deeply Cortese felt about the history of SFC is absurd. No problem with it by the way and actually think it was a good idea, just don't pretend it was something it's not.

I don't even remember Cortese claiming it was a generous donation, I would imagine this was Markus's idea. All been kept very low key.

What it does scotch is the ludicrous idea that this was all done for the profit on shirt sales. If you wanted to make money, keep the old shirt and have sponsorship on it!

Phoned the Mayflower this morning - about 4 seats left (not together) - they have just started selling standing tickets but they dont have many of those to offer

If you have been to one of the Le Tiss, Lawrie, Mike Osman do's before then it will be the same old jokes and stories. But if you havent seen it before then will be a good night.

This was posted on 8 November. They advertised this without any confirmed guests and used a poster showing those players. Still think it was fair comment.

worth going to, looked at link and poster - Osgood, Ball and Stokes all lined up.

Guess you are very delicate?

I know it will be a fantastic night because I know how much work is going into making it a night to remember for all Saints fans.

What, you don't think it will be a good night?

Not long now until the night out, looking forward to it. Buffalo Bills for some grub then over the road to watch the 'show' :-)

A handful of middle-ages men having pops at Cortese...

Why is this a sticky? The event has sold out. If people want to comment, fine but why is it cluttering up the head of the forum?

There are only 3 stickies at the mo - and i'm quite interested to know whether Osman, McMenemy and Le Tissier focus on the event or whether they stay true to form and slip in a few digs about Cortese.

Dark forces? He said in jest.

Looking forward to it.

You won't be able to miss the two big lads in the front row.:) It's a shame both sides can't get together a make this a weekend to remember.:(

All joking aside perhaps Rupert should be invited. Move from The Dell, 2003 Cup Final. I hate the bloke but the one thing that's nagging away at me with these celebrations is that it's going to be Lawrie, Osman ect's take on the history of the club. If it was an evening celebrating Lawrie and his acheivements I would be there, but this is advertised as a celebration at the whole history of the club and should include Pre Lawrie, Lowe and the part that ML & NC played in ensuring it's survival. Of course there will be jokes about Lowe and proberly NC as well, but I hope it's a balanced evening.

I'm hoping it'll be more of a celebration of the greats in our history, and a look back on things rather than a dig at the current regime...

I'm not holding my breath tbh. Osman has never struck me as professional and Lawrie has proven himself to be anything but over the last year.

(Disclaimer - I am not in any way taking away from what Lawrie has done for our club. He is still a true legend).

Now you will have upset The Gaffer!

Just on the BBC news, NA knows of no ban on Saints players attending this function, but he won't be. So once again all those hysterical posters, (same ones as the Chamberlain thread) need hang their collective heads in shame.

What has Lawrie done wrong?

seeing as the Echo cant get basic articles correct regarding saints at the mo..I would not entertain what they say at the min

So after all the back and forth over the last few days, we've had it from Adkins himself that there is no official ban? If true, it seems like mud throwing in the hope that it sticks from Le tiss and co.

What's your point?

Potentially have one spare ticket, up in the Gods (Plus side is it's not next to me). Was spare this morning, so hopefully it still is.

Face value of course (PM if you want).

Lol, you really do make me laugh. The point is Hypo, you and a select few conducted a verbal war over 11 pages, based on nothing more than rumour. You did the same on the issue of AOC being sold, without a shred of evidence, but you still shouted down anyone with a different viewpoint. Fact is, NA said there is no ban, can't see any groveling apoligies yet!

......and it's all gone quiet over there....and it's all gone quiet over Theeeere!! I love this bl00dy forum sometimes;)

Jesus christ. The Cortese cult in full effect. Shall we wait and see if any of the current squad or manager go first? 'not aware of any ban' is pretty lame spin you're swallowing there. Just put Rupert Lowe as the person aggressively distancing himself and the club from its own history. How much would you be tossing yourself off in joy then? Le Tiss packed it in a decade ago and could fill the mayflower by himself. Let's see in 2021 who would go to an evening with the greasy spiv you seem to hero worship.
