Hi Just to let all you Saints fans know evening with past Saints stars etc to celebrate 125 years of Southampton Football CLub just come across it whilst looking on th Mayflower Site Tickets on Sale Now.

Will David Connolly be there?

I, for one, would be interested to hear about the challenge of being the club's best striker whilst being somewhat injury prone.

They should get ron down for this.

Wait for Tim to come online - he'll know whether Ron is fit for travelling, would be a fantastic effort if we got him over.

I'm guessing this isn't an official event - judging by some of the attendees

seriously...we should really push the club to get him over IF he is up to it...

seriously

maybe we as fans could help (money wise) bring him over...I would chuck in a few quid to help

Have they selected a charity yet? And will this be be accompanied by some pyramid scheme or product that we have somehow managed to do without for so long?

Might take the missus as a valentine's treat. Worried about spoiling her somewhat though as I was planning on getting her a new vacuum cleaner for Xmas.

Looks like she'll have to make do with a dustpan and brush then !

:)

I wonder what Mr Cortese will make of this. He is very protective of the "Brand"

I would think that he would know all about it - it's hardly a secret from the world if tickets are on sale (not sure how long they have been so before the OP picked up on it). I would relate it to a golfing day, evening with Lawrie & Le Tiss for Kevin Moore on a bigger scale.

On a practical & PR note it would be difficult to disapprove af a charitable function celebrating the life of the club...I'd like to think they would work together on it but that may be optimistic!

Interesting too that it will be 126 years in 2011:?:)

NB - I've booked tickets & would happily contribute to a Big Ron air ticket fund (or a general one to get other ex-stars over)

Going, via a good friend booking a ticket for me.

A good night, a few beers, lots of laughs, with some tears for those who can't attend, amid great company.

Nothing more to ask for?

Maybe we'll be well settled in the top two by then?

worth going to, looked at link and poster - Osgood, Ball and Stokes all lined up.

Whats the matter with you ?

Three guys who all did great things for this club and all died far far too young.........

and you get a quick jibe in ? Pathetic.

My sources tell me that he is guest of honour and has agreed to match, £ for £, everything that they donate to charity from the proceeds of this event.

Who can ever get fed up with the Danny Wallace jokes on a snowy day , and Osgood taking the FA Cup around with him in the back of his car in the town . Im sure some newer material will be around with Keegan and Shearer in town .

It was looking good until I got to the bit " The night will be hosted by Southampton fan Mike Osman who will ensure plenty of laughs along the way." This would be a first.

Incidentally, I can't see anything about it being for charity on the Mayflower site. Where have people seen this?

Looks like it will be a good night, just before my birthday as well so I may treat myself.

2011 though! Could they not have fitted it in this year??

This is the main event of the celebrations as the club have failed to do anything of note. Cortese hates the history side of the club as seen by his actions towards the clubs legends. Slagging them of in the media and renaming the suites and generally treating our history as scum. fook him

you are free to support another team in the mean time.....you are free to march against cortese with your 10 followers at any time you wish...

The cynical among us could suggest that is a good marketing decision.

That's if you completely over look the fact there is no shirt sponsorship this season. Take that on board and weigh up the financial impact and you are in need of a far different adjective.

Not really. There are obvious reasons for that too but I can't be bothered to go into it again as it has been done to death so will leave it there.

Where should we expect to read these revelations? On here? In the press? And, assuming that you know what they will be, why not just tell us all now? Go on, tell us - just what has Cortese been up to?

TBF, I think the shirt was a clever marketing idea and I'm all in support of clever marketing ideas. It has sold in droves so clearly people like it or are too stupid not to buy something they don't like in which case they are ripe for a good marketing decision.

Frankly, who really gives a **** about a 125 year anniversary? What about 120 years? 130? 135? 128?

I agree. To pretend it was some kind of generous donation because of how deeply Cortese felt about the history of SFC is absurd. No problem with it by the way and actually think it was a good idea, just don't pretend it was something it's not.

Same here, I think I'll probably still go as a mate wants someone to go with. Listening to Mike Osman trying to be funny for a couple of hours won't really be pleasant.
