Daily Echo Still Banned

There are people on here who'll say it's all Cortese's fault when their car doesn't start, or when it pours with rain next.

Personally I think Cortese has done a good job, he's made strong decisions and he isn't afraid upset some people. One or two things I haven't agreed with but overall I have been impressed.

I shall never forget the widespread condemnation and the amount of Cortese bashing on here when Pardew was sacked. It was only me and few others who called for the bigger picture to be seen and for us to wait until who was brought in and judge Cortese on how well the replacement has done.

It's still early days yet but the widely condemned decision to sack Pardew and hire Adkins is beginning to look like a masterstroke.

To be fair, I think it'll be years before we can hail the appointment of Adkins as a masterstroke. I still maintain that, even despite a poor start to the season, we would have achieved promotion from this division with Pardew at the helm. The squad we have assembled is such that, whoever is in charge, it will be a failure if we do not go up this year. The whys and wherefores of Pardew's sacking are immaterial; I expected promotion with him in charge, I expect promotion with Adkins in charge, and anything less than that is simply not good enough.

Where I think you may be proved right in the masterstroke claim is that Adkins does seem to be a very progressive thinker, and can perhaps adapt to situations better than Pardew. That said, Pardew's record in the second half of last season in uparallelled in Saints recent history. So, for now, its swings and roundabouts.

If Adkins gets us back to the Prem within the 5 year plan, then yes, his appointment will be a masterstroke. Until then, and while we remain in League 1, we are very much a work in progress.

So you know for a fact that he had no experience in managing people or handling relations with the media, do you? Kindly give us chapter and verse of the evidence that will convince us that you know what you are talking about.

He has fallen out with; many people in the media, many ex-players, one team Manager and his staff, numerous internal staff, Chairmen at other Clubs and several Leaders of supporters groups.....

Judge a man by his actions. Cortese has left a trail of bad relationships.

But you love him.

he has two performance indicators:

1) team performance - promising, been heading in right direction since here still early days.

2) crowds - are very good therefore fans are happy.

Could give a f**** how popular he is with some chairman etc (two examples were cherries - who lied and didn't pay his bills, and Sc*nthorpe chairman who was also caught out lying.)

I was right behind him sacking Pardew and am very happy with his replacement.

And you hate him. It's obviously not enough for you that he was instrumental in bringing in ML to save us from oblivion. I get the impression that you would have preferred us to be playing in the Blue Square league. BBB is right. You're simply not objective enough to look at the bigger picture and place far too much store on these other matters. Frankly I couldn't give a damn about whether he has offended the delicate egos of freeloaders, self-important journos, underperforming managers or players or staff who don't pull their weight. As for the interfering Chairmen of other clubs trying to be macho to impress rival supporters or leaders of support groups representing nobody but themselves, who cares?

I'll certainly judge a man by his actions, but that will the actions that get us back to the Premiership, not those that ruffle a few feathers along the way.
