errol_slymm Posted 7 November, 2010 Share Posted 7 November, 2010 ..."and the saints are playing at home today..." Saw them a few times back in the day, probably at the joiners. Not too bad a song IMO...
Kadeem Hardison Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 Indeed, Fred (the lead singer) was a big Saints fan. I have that single on 12" and CD, and it quite often gets an airing on my iPod as I walk to the stadium.
rallyboy Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 they were mates of the wonderful Carter USM I believe - didn't they do a B side for them?....and pop pickers, which Carter intro do you sing/hear sung every saturday?....
Chorlton Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 Is it Surfin' USM when the oppo keeper has a goal kick? Didn't The Beast have links with The Joiners or Southampton as a whole?
rallyboy Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 don't know of the beast link - I hope not, he has a W******d look to him!! I always assume fans generally have stolen the intro from wherever Fruity stole it originally - good spot though, no one else knows what on earth we're on about! Nor cares - but they'll still be sinking a Carter song at the next home game.
norwaysaint Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 I remember The Family Cat doing an interview in the NME in about 1990 0r 1991 very saying they were like Saints, "a great attacking team that never got any publicity".
Kadeem Hardison Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 Jon 'Fat' Beast was also a Saints fan. Saw The Family Cat support Carter a couple of times and also on a co-headline tour with Cud at Soton Students Union. Shame that French Connection ripped of the **** branding from them. I've also got the released-for-a-day-then-deleted 7" of 'Jesus Christ' somewhere around here. What was the song they did with PJ Harvey?

Mr Coin Posted 11 November, 2010 Share Posted 11 November, 2010 I had a Family Cat which my mother banned me from wearing as the tag line was "all other bands are dog sh*t".
norwaysaint Posted 11 November, 2010 Share Posted 11 November, 2010 I had a Family Cat which my mother banned me from wearing. This was a sensible decision imo.
errol_slymm Posted 11 November, 2010 Author Share Posted 11 November, 2010 Kadeem, a quick google reveals that "Colour me grey" and "river of diamonds" featured Polly Harvey on backing vocal. Got me confused though I thought it was Inspiral Carpets with the "Cool as F C U K" shirts?
