Question.

Watching my lad play under 12's today. With 1 minute to go they are 2-1 up when the ref awards a penalty, in my view after being influenced by the opposing managers vociferous protest. Whle the pen was being sorted the manager made a sub to bring back on a kid who was obviously his preferred penalty taker. Said pen was scored with ease. Is it legal to make a sub at that time? I thought although the game was stopped, the ball was still classed as in play?

Yes you can make a substitution after the award of a penalty.

You often will see an outfield player come off for a sub goalkeeper when they have been dismissed for a professional foul.

Cannot bring a player back on who has been subbed off during the game though!!

Yeah good point, hadn't thought of that.

And yes, rolling subs at this level.

Cheers
